Good detailed review! Personally i do like the looks of the cross hybrid n may consider to pull the trigger. However i think most of potential buyers will wait for the new HRV to make a real comparison.

Malaysian in Finland here..this hybrid corolla cross is using electronic parking break here in Europe...and since 2020 toyota dealer in Fnland just sell ONlY hybrid toyota..no more fully petrol engine.

There's also a Toyota Yaris Cross coming, it will possibly come to North America as a Lexus BX (even smaller than the Lexus UX)

8:35 hot whether and sun light a BS. my old Toyota Corolla DX soft dash board ony has 5 mm crack after 23 years. reduce cost = increasing gross margin = increase profit. a country having 4 season climate could be harser where humidity as low as single digit or hotter than 35C. not harm full even for few months?

Love the review, drove the corolla cross hybrid myself and I love how comfortable it is to drive it. Would love to see a video of this car's comparison with HRV and X50 since it is the direct competitors as well as maybe with CX5 since it is categorized as a C-Segment SUV by Toyota. Can't wait!

This being hybrid would definitely be a better choice for Malaysians. I drive the 2010 Peugeot 3008 with a large 60L fuel tank but it only fares up to 15L/100KM (a quarter of the tank) compared to the Corolla Cross Hybrid which you got around 5.5L/100KM (less than a quarter of the tank).

It may be reliable and fuel efficient. But it just looks like a car that was launched 5 years or more ago, both interior and exterior. Infotainment and instrument cluster belongs on a rm200 tablet. No excitement or joy in and out. Such a shame when the TNGA platform is good

I wouldn’t call the use of foot parking brake the biggest drawback. Electronic parking brake might be all well and good, but when it goes wrong, it will cost a bomb to get it replaced, and we are talking about a few thousands ringgit here. It involves a computer module, two electric motors, cables, wirings, switches, etc. Since this car already comes with hill-assist, the only real benefit that an electronic parking brake add would be the auto-hold function. The auto-resume function (vs manually pressing a "resume" button) in Adaptive Cruise Control is not so crucial in the real world situation as most people use ACC only on highway. In fact some people actually do not find electronic parking brake to be a desirable feature, especially those from the USA and the EU.

One thing I would like to comment is, Toyota really need to re-work on the color option they are offering. All colors currently offering are quite boring. Do not underestimate the power of color options. Wish Toyota all the best, wish hybrid power all the best.

Amazing and detailed review as always. I think this hybrid version really does hit the sweet spot, was never a huge fan of the corolla cross since it came out as a cbu model, but I must say the ckd hybrid version does make it a compelling family car. That greyish blue colour is growing on me haha

Thanks for the detailed review. I have tested both normal (non-hybrid) and hybrid briefly and found the hybrid model is more agile from standing start. The normal model struggle to pick up. Don't know if anyone has different experience. Agreed that the infotainment unit a bit dated.

I have tested drive hybrid version on Sunday😍 really impressive, the moment when battery & engine changing, is not that obvious, overall very smooth driving. If fact, you wouldn't even feel it at all. When braking (recharging) also same, not like other hybrid or electric car. The disadvantages, the rear design really not that modern look, just keen look. The back sits not that huge, like our stereotype on Japanese car, but still more that enough space for back sits👍 will consider to buy one

Nice review. I like the masculine exterior of the the car almost similar to the Rav 4 or Forester. However, if I could make changes to this vehicle I'd give it electronic brake, auto hold, slimmer/sleek looking entertainment LCD unit. Nicer buttons on the steering column and a slightly mordern looking gear shift stick. Last but not the least, full LED front/rear lights. Do away with the halogens please.

Then toyota cross came out and i am now contemplating because i always into toyota comfort & reliability. I am torn between my dream & satisfaction which is the countryman and reliability which is toyota cross. What would be ur choice? Btw I already own a family car.

The brand in itself is a selling point. So Toyota fan boys out there won't really mind about the overall bland styling of this supposingly new SUV. Soon to be everywhere and anywhere on the local roads!

just tested drive 30 min ago ,what has been said were true.Only that i ve driven continental hybrid ,to add comment: good for family car,safe ton of petrol, almost like x70 in comfort , pickup way below my hybrid ,underpower but spot mode overcome that at a shorter distant, spacious, cabin noise is very audible. 8 years warranty for hybrid component i think..that is pretty darn good..what else...yaa foot break is a mistake ....not much info from its system about the car..otherwise its toyota...its should be good

Looks like they cheaped put for ASEAN while they have best initial build quality and reliability in the US. They could have improved the look of the dash compared to the new Honda HRV which is more chic.

EU/US market Corolla Cross gets the E-Brake, so not sure why the SEA (and Philippines) market have to settle for the pre-historic foot parking brake. Can't say it's cost savings as these cars are pretty expensive.

Hybrids are a genius idea.. they've been around for 20+ years and should REALLY BE the Norm now.... Gas when you need it, Battery charged by gas, no need to plug-in. It has so many benefits over gas AND electric-only cars.. I have a feeling the BIG OIL industry doesn't like it at all.

since the petrol engine has "only" 98 ps i dont understand why Toyota went for a 1.8 liter engine. since the petrol engine has low power specs why didnt they go for a 1.5 liter and reduce weight which gives a slightly better acceleration time get a slightly better FC and get a lower road tax price plus lower production cost / car price

U forget to mention that this car is >30k more expensive than the X50 top spec and >20K HRV top spec Anyway this is a good refined Toyota model

What is the VTS system? How come it's free for only 3 years. After that you need to pay subscription. How much per year? Which other car manufacturers charge for VTS subscription?

In US and other countries, this car comes with a 2.0 liter dynamic force engine and a hybrid battery giving it a combine of 196hp and 52 miles of driving efficiency but still not as expensive as the price in Msia 😢😢
