I've always been a Taco guy and owned a 4Runner for a bit. Got a Pro-4X in January and I love it! I took it out for a spin in the trails and it really did just fine. Now, I don't do extreme stuff like in the video, so I think the Frontier has an edge over the Taco when it comes to smoothness, interior desing and overall bang for your buck. Yes, we know the Taco is reliable and the Frontier is brand new, yet I decided to get the "new" Nissan a chance. So far, so good!

my 2016 already had an engine rebuild at 119K, paint is fading hard on the roof, (yes I waxed it 4 times a year). tail gate shock is broken, plastic trim inside the sunroof fell off... Yea, so I am not real happy with my Taco. Oh and Toyota corp said no help.... So, pretty much one of the worst vehicles I have ever owned. Major bummer. I got it for the reliability and it sucks. Oh and the gas mileage isn't even close to what they advertise. sorry guys. I wanted to love it, but can't wait to get a new truck when I get the money...

I will point out a bad design you will contend with that is better on toyota and pretty much any other truck I've looked at and that's upper control arm placement. For some reason niSSan didn't center the coil bucket in the upper control arm so when lifted the factory control arm bangs down on the coil bucket so you have to get aftermarket upper control arms I have alldogs offroad but there's spc too but something else I don't know if you have checked out that would be up your alley since it seems like you might have the funds for modding go look up the titan swap for the frontier I think alldogs offroad already did it on the gen 3 frontier should be a video. If you haven't seen anything on that yet it's where they take a titan front end and put it on the frontier and give it crazy travel. I believe the kit pretty much includes what I told you about and what you were talking about but I think it runs $1700-3000 not sure haven't looked lately.

The trd skid plates are also aluminum, not steel. Just received my 2022 Frontier Pro-4X Crew Cab and did some trails with it here in Utah. Definitely more worth the money after dealer fees are incorporated into the pricing. Toyota dealers want $20,000 on top of MSRP and Nissan wanted a standard markup. Far and away more worth it to get the Frontier. Now, a year from now if the market cools down and prices become regular again, Tacoma may be the clear winner. But as the market stands, get a Frontier plus a lift and STILL save $16,500 over a Tacoma. Both are great trucks, no doubt.

I like the video and comparisons, but the other point I want to add is that the TRD Pro is also a full 4 door truck, while the Nissan Frontier King Cab is only a 2 door. That also accounts for some of the large price differential between the two trucks. If you want a closer price point to the Frontier, and still a rugged, off-road truck, you can get the TRD Off-Road Access Cab for cheaper, and some of the Pro options are offered as upgrades to the Off-Road Model. I will say, for interior comfort, Toyota kind of lags behind competitors. The manual trans also helps avoid some of the jumpiness and awkward shifting of the automatic system.

I'm doing a 3 inch lift on my 2022 Pro 4x (In Tactical Green Metallic) that I just picked up - seems the right height for me, was going to do 4 inches but then it wouldn't fit in my garage! Compared to the Taco's on Toyota dealers lots here with $10-15k market adjustments I'm in the Pro 4x (Which unfortunately I still had to pay a $5k above MSRP market adjustment) for almost $20k USD less than the Taco... that's a lot of upgrades.

I agree the crawl control system makes a lot of noise and isn't the smoothest, but it gets the job done, so I don't see the problem with it. You can reach up and increase its speed with the knobs a bit and it won't do this lurching. The lowest setting is useful only when you really need to be that slow. If you look at the Ford Ranger (at least the 2020 and 2021 model years), the crawl control doesn't go down to this speed. Personally, I don't care as long as it works.

I have yet to see any other brands' crawl control equivalent get you unstuck like I've seen the toyota system work. It's not supposed to be quiet or comfortable, it's an off road feature. From observation I would still say it functions better than other systems for its intended purpose. I think it's a good tool to get unstuck more so than "cruise control" for off road. Nobody really used those systems that way that I've seen in the real world.

Great video. After test driving both as a daily driver , I’m going Frontier. Better power band and transmission as well as better fuel economy, which I tested. Both make reliable trucks but for bang for the buck and overall ergonomics and long term use. I think the Frontier is a tad better. Nissan doesn’t get enough credit for their motors. The 5.6 as well as the former 4.0 litre are Bulletproof. Always like the appearance of the TRD Pro but just not behind the wheel as much.

@@francislegayada1783 A 2-3" lift and some bigger tires for the Frontier solve all of it's problems too... that's maybe $3-4k total, if you put $3-4k into the Tacos powertrain it's only going to be pushing what the Frontier is stock, and you can't solve that jerky transmission either.

You sure the Tacoma doesn't allow it? EDIT: I stand corrected. Just confirmed in the user manuals of both the 4Runner and Tacoma.
