2022 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS | Better Than The RR?

Is the 2022 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS better than the Speed Triple RR? Both bikes have Triumphs 1200cc triple engine and premium components. Brembo Stylema brakes and Ohlins suspension. The RR is designed with a retro styled front fairing, however the RS is a traditional naked style motorcycle which is potentially better and more comfortable for road use.
The 1200 RR is more expensive, so is the RS better value for money and a better superbike for the road?

I was satisfied with my 2011 no bloody R, RS or RR, until I saw the 1200RR. Loved the RS as well but the looks of the RR especially in Crystal White with Gold coach lining. Ordered it last Sept. Got it in February. I heard the suspension on the RS was stiff. However with the RR's electronic Ohlins "road" mode softens the ride. Rider mode you cam make it softer. It does have the five modes "track" wasn't mentioned. Not a lot of miles on it, 833. The reason for that is two fold. First I live in the Tucson area and you guys know it can get pretty warm. Second, was two weeks after the 1200RR I bought a Thruxton RS Ton Up Special Edition. I must admit there are more miles on it and it's two weeks "younger" then the 1200RR. Love the channel Red! Keep at it and be well. Kenn

Hi Kenn, no worries at all about the few miles on the RR, it is a beautiful work of art that I think is worth the money just to look at!! Nice you have treated your self, love the Thruxton RS as well. Good point on the electronic suspension with the RR being softer in road mode, that is a benefit for sure. Many thanks and same you. Angus, the 1200RS engine comes alive above about 9k revs by which time you doing insane speeds, below this I found it quite flat. Agree with you the riding position is very comfortable and the ease with which the 1200RS turns and drops into a bend is sublime. Owing to the very firm suspension I think it is best suited to a smooth race track. I just don't like the aesthetics of the RR and it looks flippin uncomfortable I don't think Triumph will sell that many. I reckon it will be quietly dropped by Triumph from their range. Also I much prefer the dash of the older 1050RS don't like the 1200 dash on either the 1200 RS or RR. Oh and the twin high level Arrow exhausts of the 1050RS although add extra weight, sound and look awesome imho. Take care, ATB

Hi Alex, yes I would love to try out the 1050RS 👍 Perhaps that more mid range torque would make it better for on road riding. I LOVE the looks of the RR, but I agree, don't think they will sell too many of them (too expensive) and the RS makes more sense for riding on the road. Cheers

@@redangrevival Angus, Thanks for your reply. The RR seems very much like a Marmite bike, you either love it or hate it. Sadly I think I am one of the latter on reflection . Don't get me wrong I did like the 1200RS, its handling reminded me of it's smaller sibling the Street Triple RS, so quick to turn and light, very flickable, but to enjoy it fully you really need to be on a track. The 1200 engine with QS is just so good, but for me I prefer the 1050RS as it feels to me a better bike for the road. 148bhp is more than enough. it is still plenty fast enough It seems to hsve more low down torque, well it felt that way to me when I rode them back to back last summer. Maybe I should venture your way and you can have a go on mine? Failing this there must be a dealer/bike shop near you who has a nice s/h one available for you to ride so you can do a definitive comparison. How about Blade themselves? If I wanted semi active electronic suspension , rather than the Triumph Speed 1200RR, I would go for the KTM SDR 1290 3.0 EVO or the Aprilia Tuono 1100 Factory, probaby the SDR actually, but for the moment my 1050RS is scratching my itch. Too many nice bikes to own and ride now. Life was never this complicated. ATB, Angus

I'm swapping in my s1000xr for a RS on Saturday, Baja orange one from 2023. Was really torn between the RR (got a superdeal on a 2022 model with full warranty for 2.500 euro less than the base RS price) and the RS. Eventually went for the RS anyway.. Dunno if that was a mistake but comming from the Sport-touring/naked bike sceene the RR seemed kinda extreme. And that colour scheme of the new RS...

I ride mine in rain mode most of the time because it’s easier to ride , I use road mode on the motorways and sport mode on B roads to have fun but tbh Road mode is perfectly fine, I disagree that it’s “ comfortable “ though it’s definitely not comfortable but that’s just my opinion and I also don’t care about the comfort because it makes me feel good so I can live with that 😅👍

Good use of the different modes 👍 OK I may have been getting carried away when saying it was comfortable!! Better than I thought is what I should have said, good for a very sports focused bike. If it was too comfortable then you would be making sacrifices in other areas. Great bike

2:10 What? I will never agree that the Speed 1200 likes the city. The biggest problem for me is a road with holes where the whole motorcycle jumps, you ride in 1st or 2nd gear below 30 mph then it jerks terribly with every slightest movement of the throttle... in addition, a large turning radius is another disadvantage and too quiet exhaust but I love it in general 😁
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Жыл бұрын
Fair enough, I agree on the suspension side. I didn't find the throttle jerky at all!! Nice comfortable riding position and smooth at low speed I thought. Who cares what it is like in town really haha It is a fantastic bike 👍
@sacredgeometry
@sacredgeometry Жыл бұрын
Its more than fine in the city. IThe suspension is fully adjustable and is fine once set up and it is a little unhappy at low speeds but nothing especially bad. The turning radius? You can turn it almost on its axis ... just like any other bike if you know what you are doing ... you can turn it on the spot if you know more and are a bit reckless.

I have the 2019 1050RS and yes the bike is amazing, but the suspension is abysmal IMO, its not fit for purpose at its out of the gate set up, it is supposed to be a road going naked bike, and road is the key to my comment, 99% (at a guess) are not Track going folk, so why would Triumph insist on the harsh set up, especially when parting with a lot of money. Ive since taken the suspension to a ohlins specialist to soften the Compression to iron out the road, given at pace it makes my vision blurred at best. My biggest upset from this is Ive had bikes from a GSXR 1000 to a GS1200 and they where butter smooth, so come on Triumph admit you got the suspension wrong and get a recall to address it.
@redangrevival
@redangrevival Жыл бұрын
Must admit I haven't ridden the 1050RS, but that sounds too harsh setup to me. I suppose it is adjustable so you can soften it up somewhat. I think the pick out of the new models is the RS, not too hard out of the box suspension.
