It was heart breaking to watch Seb's efforts crumble during a pit stop, I'm happy he at least salvaged some points for his effort. Aston Martin has really made significant improvements since the beginning of the season but I think it could be a real test of Alonso's patience next season.

Huge Seb fan, I went to COTA because I’ve been watching for a decade and this would be my last chance to see him race. My brother and I were standing at T1 and could see the Aston pitbox clearly. It’s safe to say to we both screaming when that happened. Btw my picture of the timing tower with Vettel P1, Hamilton P2, and Verstappen P3 has already become a cherished family heirloom.

A race of champions.

I agree with Tom regarding Alonso. He is amazing and is still fighting like his early years in F1. Let’s appreciate his genius as well - in 2010 and 2012, he had the 3rd (2010) or 4th (2012) best car on the grid, yet was in the championship fight down to the last race. Today, that would be the equivalent of Hamilton in the championship fight with several wins already in uncompetitive machinery. Fernando deserves another shot at a WDC. He’s the best I’ve seen since I started watching F1 in 2004.

Max driving style hasn't been agressive at all this season... It's a very confident driving style... I've seen it in so many of his overtakes this year. Drives up within a couple of seconds, then slows down charges battery cools tyres, slowly reals into the drs picks his points and puts his car confidently beside the driver in front and overtakes most of the time without a lockup or anything, it's almost robotic. Where Charles has been more agressive all season, cooking his tyres just to get close or stay within drs and couse of that aggressiveness often makes mistakes.

Mick didn't pick up damage from debris. Latifi crashed into Mick like they were in bumper cars. Additionally, Mick was ahead of KMag until Haas decided to pit him after only 14 laps for no reason. Did you guys even watch the race?
@enexius67
@enexius67 Жыл бұрын
Mick had balance issues before the crash. Then he drove right through it and had to pick a piece of debris off of his halo. Then the combination of changing out 8 lap old tires for hards and then Latifi crashed into Mick ofc and he got some “pretty serious damage” according to his engineer Gary. These 3 don’t care to look into Mick’s races and what’s going on within the strategy. Yes he’s crashed 3 times, but Haas is responsible for 90% of his failures to get points because of tire strategies, slow pit stops, favoring Kmag. Hoping Mick leaves Haas and comes back strong with Audi (2024) because the Haas environment is absolute garbage.

@@okthen515 The Ferrari is still the faster car in qualification. By a fraction. But in race trim, they lose out on the tyre deg. If they can solve that, they would be much closer. But they would have to improve a lot in both team performance and driver error in order to be in contention for the title. I would be very surprised if they got all 3 in order. (ofcourse, they are interdependent. The more they can improve the speed of the car, the easier the margin gets to solve the other 2.) Other than that, they depend on Max' error. That's not a very fertile strategy.

Completely disagree with Charles racing not being aggressive enough, just look at the overtake on Perez. He also had no chance against Verstappen with that straight line speed and tire deg advantage. On top of that, the stewards are massively inconsistent with the rules, one weekend you can push another driver off and the next you can't. You could argue he should be more aggressive questioning strategy decisions, but I don't think a driver should nee d to correct his strategy team

Should perhaps all time penalties be applied after the race? Now I think that the penalty Russel got got neutralized by the safety car, while later penalties a driver has no chance to make up. On the other hand, if you get a time penalty early in the race (or after a SC), you potentially loose additional places in a pitstop because your stop is that much longer. In any case: the moment you get the penalty can have a significant effect on how severe it actually turns out to be. If you just add them to the end time, it’s equal for everyone I think. Downside is that the finishing order isn’t really how drivers are qualified, but I think some graphics showing known penalties next to drivers would help a lot already. It already happens that drivers get the time added post passing the finish line, so not a big difference there.

Leclerc isn't aggressive? I think it's because there's not much to fight for. 2019 when he was up against Lewis in Italy, didn't he push lewis to the grass to take his 2nd W? 🤔

54:27 One thing that can and should motivate Stroll is if he, as a driver does better it will benefit his team, that eventually will benefit him to achieve his goals. So if he wants to win races and even championships (regardless of how realistic that dream is) he knows he should do better. In other works, just because he's working for the family business it doesn't mean he will slack off.

I don't get how you guys go on about Leclerc not being aggresive or something. He is one of the best wheel to wheel racers, look at all his moves, his switchbacks and his anticipation. He is aggressive without going over the limit and pushing people off. I don't see what's wrong with that. He put more of a fight yesterday than Lewis and that is not a dig at Lewis.

I agree, Leclerc is more than good enough to get multiple WDC's provided he got the material to do it with. This years Ferrari was good, but not good enough due to the tyre deg in race trim. (apart from the obvious errors of team and driver) But put in him in a car as dominant as the Mercedes of the past, en he will rake in multiple titles. Can he bend around Ferrari in that direction, like Schumacher? I don't see it happening to be honest, but who knows Ferrari get their act together on their own. Or build a car so dominant yet reliable (or finding a cheat for all I care) that those things matters less. But dramatic things at RBR need to happen to drastically alter their level. Historically, teams tend to grow towards the same performance under a rule freeze. Would be nice to have a 3-way championship.

Regarding single season win records- it's much more difficult to win 20/20 races than it is to win 10/10. Owing to reliability and sheer chaos, I don't think measuring wins as a % is valid from a statistics standpoint. A direct count comparison skews things as well though, so I think we just need to acknowledge you can't compare stuff like this across seasons. But what fun is that?
@broyout3586

I don’t think that Leclerc’s driving is not aggressively enough, but tbh we saw last year if two drivers start being aggressive it ends in a crash. Don’t hate on Max, he just has an aggressive style but if Charles was as aggressive they would crash every race. So I think it’s actually quite good that we hopefully next year again have a battle between a driver who’s more cautious and one who’s more aggressive

Usually in past seasons when a team dominates there are still at least one or two races where another team wins like last year with Ocon and Danny or 2020 with Gasly and Checo (previously racing point). This year seems to be exclusively Red Bull. Absolutely insane. They got the driver, car and luck all dialed in

Verstappen really is the best man in the best car. Combined, almost invincible at the moment. How many mistakes has he made the whole season, 2-3? How many that had a consequence? I can only think of Singapore, the bodged overtake on Lando. That's an insane standard. It surpasses Schumacher, who was prone to take a little detour off track when he was cruising ahead of the pack.

Really disagree with you take on Charles being not aggressive enough. Especially since 2019 Austria, I think he's been one of the most aggressive drivers on the grid, maybe less so in defence (except Monza 2019), but when he attacks he's pretty ruthless with it. Even this race he put in a pretty late dive on Perez and forced his way through.

Verstappen was just managing his tires. He kept the distance about 1.5 and everytime Lewis got it down to 1.2, Verstappen pressed his pedal a little bit deeper and got it in a single lap back to 1.8 or 2.0 seconds. He did actually the same just before his attempt to overtake Lewis. But because the F1 TV director thought that age of tires and positions won/lost were far more important than the interval times it was hard to follow that, but after he overtook Leclerc he managed to close the gap to Lewis to about 2.5 second very fast and than he was dancing about 2 to 3 minutes around the 2 second mark, charging his batteries, cooling his tires and wait for the correct stop to start his overtaking... What surprised me the most, once Verstappen broke DRS for Leclerc and Hamilton he was able to accelerate like he had another gear or something. In the last 3 laps he managed to grow the interval from 1.5 to 5 seconds...
