www.crosstraini... Our TM EN 250 ES review! We finally get to ride another Italian stallion, the carburetor version of the TM EN 250 ES. This is a 2023 model but this review should also cover the 2024 model which has very few changes. Never heard of TM. It's a boutique manufacturer that started in 1976. Need hard enduro training? Work through our video lists. Hard enduro techniques are covered in our training vids. For a small manufacturer they won a lot of championships in supermoto and motocross. And since 2015, they focused on enduro and have been winning a few championships there too. But like the Austrian TPI models, not much power at low revs. If you are enduro riding get into our enduro training vids. Our dirt riding tips are great for developing your hard enduro skills. So we were keen to ride this carburetor version. Thankfully TM offers a choice of fuel injection or carburetor. TM owners usually rave about their motorbikes. You can see why. They look great. Up close you can see the quality that comes with a hand-made motorbike. Apparently the factory even sets the suspension up for your style of riding. New ECU mappings and Reinforced frame. I think it's the racing nature of the TM which may be the deciding factor for many riders. Their focus has been on high end components, performance, and hand building every motorbike. Those of us into hard enduro simply didn't like the power delivery. We were stalling or bogging the engine in slower terrain due to the lack of grunt. Then we were caught unawares each time that powerband kicked in. The EN250 actually reminded us of old school two strokes. Essentially the TM EN 250 ES is the same deal as the 300 - based on the motocross model but with changes to civilise it enough for enduro riding. One of our guys bought a 2021 EN300 with the TPI system. Unfortunately he had endless problems with the TPI system, not a lot of after sales support, then eventually sold it. Into enduro and dirt bikes? Check out our dirt bike videos.Extreme enduro training vids are our focus. We reviewed the 300 prior to those problems. Our TM EN 250 ES impressions? A thoroughbred race motorbike just detuned enough for enduro riding. Different exhaust, carburetor, heavier flywheel, wider gear ratios, 18 inch rear wheel and an optional larger fuel tank. What did we like? The handling is great. There's a lot of in-line stability with the TM EN 250 ES which inspires confidence. The suspension was quite firm but worked very well at speed. Again that racing emphasis comes through. If you are looking at the 2024 model, here are the main changes. New graphics and colours, Upgraded anti-slip seat, Handguards as standard, New cylinder design, Improved engine bearing lubrication. Now this isn't necessarily a bad thing - plenty of riders buy 250 models precisely for that style of power delivery. And the TM EN 250 ES delivers that motocross style in spades. Given most of our riders are into hard enduro, we are probably the wrong guys to be reviewing the TM EN 250 ES... unless you are like us and enjoy very linear power delivery and lots of grunt at low revs. Then like us you may realise the TM might not suit you. The owner of this TM has always bought 250 two strokes for this reason and he's madly in love with the TM EN250. What didn't we like? The exhaust is louder than most and has a slightly tinny sound. It's a very personal thing, many riders love the sound as the power kicks in. There's a wide range of nuts and bolts over the motorbike, TM could probably learn something from KTM in terms of using less sizes for easier maintenance on the TM EN 250 ES. But then most manufacturers can do better here - we need so many different spanners to work on our Shercos. Of course you always need a test ride to be absolutely sure. But if you want a serious race-oriented enduro model that turns heads and will also handle some motocross it would have to be a contender. There are very few reviews out there. Ridden or owned a TM EN 250 ES? We are keen to hear your thoughts. Let us know in the comments. We trawled the forums looking for any major known issues and couldn't really find anything that stood out. If you want extreme enduro training see our playlists of enduro skills to learn. Try our training vids for working on your extreme enduro techniques. There were definitely TPI issues but the carb models appear to be very reliable. A few owners said the battery can flatten easily if you use the starter a lot. Others reported very heavy fuel use and some plug fouling until they got the jetting right. One owner said the design of the rear hub makes it easy to break spokes if your chain comes off on the inside - there is only one report online of this worldwide so it may not even be an issue.

No mention of how the owner With the 21 TPI remapped the bike himself, creating his very own problems.

The TM EN 250 sounds like it's exactly what I want in an off-road bike. I love a revvy exciting 2 stroke engine with a strong powerband hit. Most other enduro 2 strokes I've ridden are very strong bottom to mid rpm but just go flat up top. . I rode a 2022 TM 300 En FI. TBI model and was very impressed .

I think you'll like it then. It was really the opposite of what we wanted. We would lug the engine in snotty terrain and it would just stall, there was no grunt factor at all. But hit that midrange and hang on lol.

Tm makes the enduro bike then changes it for mx. They dont have any 250/300mx riders. Do alot gncc style racing looks like though. Carb is same mx vs enduro. Mainly map changes shorter silincer 19in no steering lock no lights for mx version vs enduro. But they do devlope the enduro bike and make the motocross bike afterwards.

Seems like little has actually changed in terms of how the carb 250 works. I have over 400 hrs on the 2014 EN 250 and it even sounds pretty much the same!! Not good for hard enduro though which was something i found out quick enough since i ride almost exclusively hard enduro. Not great when it comes to finding after market parts either... but holy crap does the engine have 9 lives... impossible to kill that thing

It's definitely not great power delivery for gnarly terrain.... although our rider is A grade in hard enduro and simply does a lot of clutch work to get around the lack of grunt. I think he much prefers the Beta. He had no interest in riding this EN250 and said even the exhaust sound gave him the creeps lol. I think it triggered memories of all the hassles he had with the TPI system on his old 300.

I hear great things about the Hard Enduro ECU remapping from Mokim. I ride a 2023 TM 300 MX set up for enduro. I have not remapped the ECU. It's maybe not as torquey as a Beta or Sherco, but it revs up and out way faster which is a huge win in my opinion. The TM rewards you for being comfortable opening up the throttle.

We don't see a lot of the TMs around, but they seem to be as you mentioned in the video, great for flat out racing and a bit peaky. I guess for our local area, having a dealer on the Sunny Coast is a plus for the brand.

The TM 250 just dies at about 2000rpm where a Beta or Sherco 250 would keep chugging away. The owner reckons the jetting isn't great but it does just seem to be a feature of the motocross style power delivery with TMs.

The 21 TBI has poor bearing oiling system on the clutch side which caused the bearing to fail. The solution is to go back to the older style bearing. 6206 -> NJ206. So from ball bearing to roller bearing. That's the biggest issue state side. Carb models issues are.... are... jetting for elevation. 😂

@@crosstrainingenduro CORRECTION, the '21 is TPI and NOT TBI. The '23 had bad clutch side crank bearings. The updated bearing number is correct. I chatted with a guy here on youtube who rides a '21 TPI and only issues were bad fuel pumps. He's on the 3rd one. Seems like post pandemic fuel pump are hit or miss. Mostly miss.

I used to prefer the snappy nature of a 250 smoker in the woods until I rode a 300! What was I thinking with the 250! I'm glad to hear that the carb models are better than the FI models. My buddy is waiting for Beta to release the FI 300. I'm glad I got one with the carb. @juliansimon5243 I just read this an I am sure you would have either sorted the problem or sold the bike by now. But if you still have it and the problem can I suggest an aftermarket head and re-jetting. I had the same problem on my 23 RR300 an this is how I sorted it. S3 low compression head, size 40 pilot jet and 170 main. Suzuki NECW needle on the second clip from the top. I also achieved a lot better power and fuel economy. There is a video of it's first ride on my channel If you want to see how it went after these mods.
