One thing to remember when planting brassicas is that there's a lot of variables. In a perfect world with perfect PH, fertilization, depth of seed, rain, etc etc, 6lbs/acre works. HOWEVER, not all seeds are at the proper depth, PH and fertilization might not be perfect, moisture might not be adequate, and germination rates might not be perfect. All of these things must be considered. Not all the seeds are going to germinate and grow. Every plot is going to have wasted seed. I personally go heavier on the Sweet Feast mix because of the reasons mentioned above, as well as over grazing by the deer when the plants are 3-4" high in timber areas. I agree that 6 lbs/acre is perfect, but we're not going to always have perfect when it comes to food plots. Yes, if you go lighter on the seed, 6lbs/acre, you can always go back and drop more seed after 2 weeks to fill in the gaps, but now you just lost 2 weeks of growth on that plant. I strive for 8-9 lbs per acre because I don't have perfect soil no matter how hard I try. I don't get every seed at the perfect depth, nor do I have perfect fertilization throughout my plot. So come early October I have some areas that are filled with lush beautiful huge plants with big bulbs, and some areas I have plants that may be stunted a bit because of over crowding. But all in all, I have a plot that is lush and full at the peak of the season. John's seeds are hands down the absolute best. I've tried several different companies over the years, and NONE of them come close to the Northwoods Whitetail brand. If only we could get everything in a plot perfect. I have yet to do so. So until that time, I plant what works. One thing to remember.... Every plot, and every person planting a plot, does things differently. No one is right or wrong. It's all a trial and error process. Find what works best for you in your area, and stick to it. Happy plotting, and have a wonderful and safe year in the stand this year. Special thank you to John Komp and his Northwoods Whitetail seed brand. You never fail to deliver, and I truly appreciate all that you provide. Thank you.

John 2022 season was the best brassica planting iv had to date using your blend and following your instructions and advice. Truly appreciate your company and the honesty. There was not ONE leaf from any of the mix that the deer didnt eat. Kale rape alllllll of it. Id watch them get into the plot and start on the kale or rape before moving on to the others.

I truly think that the sweet feast with red clover and seclusion blend. (Reduced rate of sweet feast) is one of the best combinations for no til. Plus if you add little rye /wheat in late August early September youll have like 10 or 11 species. Gabe brown be proud.

@samdicicco7136 I put 1 bag sweet feast, 1 bag red clover, 1 bag seclusion blend to a acre. End of July. Then early September seed rye & wheat over top. Make sure to foliar fertilize and add 3x19 or urea with the rye & wheat. I think the seclusion blend is the best blend on market but red clover grows best on my soil for some reason.

I was wondering what you'd recommend in this situation. I was planning on planting the Sweet Feast blend this week (mid-Michigan), however, theres no rain in the forecast. The ground "should" have some moisture from the recent rain we've gotten, but its not calling for rain any time real soon. Would you plant anyway and hope for rain, or would you wait until theres some rain coming? From my understanding, its getting down to the wire as far as getting brassicas in the ground. Thank you! First off, I would loose the plot start and look at plot dr. Check out the liquid lime video I did with Brad harper on why we believe that.
