I bought my 1600GTL about 2 years ago. It’s the finest bike ever made, in my humble opinion. The bike is the best example of German engineering at its finest. It just turned over 40,000 miles and sometime I long to live in a more temperate climate so I can enjoy riding every day!

I bought a 2016 K1600GTL back in 2017. OK, an older model with clocks instead of a screen, however that engine is still the same. You can balance a round coin on the crankcase with it running, testament to the engine. It is heavy and I would recommend anyone getting crash bars as you will probably drop it parking, just in case. Fantastic bike a Wing killer. The engine sounds like a F1 car when opened up, this bike pulls and pulls 😄

A in-line six engine is as smooooth as it gets in the motorcycling world. Back in the late seventies I rode a Honda CBX 1000 which just happened to be smooth too. Interesting review thanks but I’m going to stick with my RT for now as I can comfortably handle it anything bigger I’d likely struggle being an old git. 👍

Glad to see you riding this bike as I am picking it up in about 2 hours having bought it from Ocean Falmouth and its staying in the County 🤣 Last 3 bikes have been GSA's so this will be something different lookig forward to putting lots of miles on it.

Had the GTL 2020 model for 3 years, absolutely brilliant bike and engine sublime but oh so heavy 2 up fully loaded. Great in the move but in a confined space on a small road even with the reverse gear, it’s a heavy old beast. I was permanently scared of dropping it. With hindsight I think I was a bit to old and feeble for it 😁😁😁 On a cold day though the RT gives better wind / rain protection and handlebar protection for those wintry fingers days There is only 1 exhaust at each side the centre pipe. The other 2 above and below are just for show not that it matters

When you’re discussing seating position and knee angles/pegs…. PLEASE….PLEASE>>> PLEASE…. Give us YOUR stats… Height and Inseam In particular. I’m 6’0 with a 33” inseam… Goldwings and RTs feel cramped to me…. Perhaps the GT will fit me

Had one for 2 years back in 2015. Used for commuting as well as touring. Had to part ex it for an r1200 as it was just too heavy when parking it in tight spaces in london. But a superb tourer. Did 12000 miles in 2 years before it went.

Buy inner bags for panniers and problem solved... i have similar panniers on FJR and with inner bag they can fit lot of stuff inside and when you take bag out you can fit xl size helmet inside

How would that in line 6 pull compared to the Boxer, also curious about longevity and slow speed maneuvering. Weirdly enough it sounds to rev much higher than any Boxer. Definitely revving faster like he thrilled too. 🤔

It pulls from way down and as for high revs I wasn’t aware it did.

At 3:05, you accidently drove past Majestic Wine. The correct procedure is to stop and unload your wallet. BMW gave that bike lots of luggage capacity for a reason. Cheers guys 🥂 , another great video

I never tested the goldwing, but besides that fault of my part I own a 1250 GSA and a 1250 RT. I love my bikes! These two bikes of mine are perfectly smooth bikes, but I think that this in line six cilindres motor… Can easily change the game and bring me into a dilemma😅 Nice video and review. Thank you 👌🏻

Between the RT and the k16 the RT wins. Has wireless charging and ACC. Why they aren't on the K16 I will never understand. Also servicing is a LOT cheaper on the RT. One bike I would love to see you get your hands on is an energica experia

Good review. I test rode one of these today back to back with the new RT. I'd ridden neither before. I've only been riding for just over a year and found the K too much for me. I was interested in it as the inline-6 is a naturally balanced engine and I'm having problems in my old hands and feet with vibes. The bike is very very smooth, no primary or secondary imbalance, there is some vibration on deceleration, probably drivetrain induced, but otherwise perfect. I found its weight too intimidating, certainly couldn't have ridden it as confidently as you did. I thought I was going to drop it at most junctions or fail to slow down enough for corners. The RT on the other hand was amazing for comfort, wind management, agility and power. I'd really like the RT now but I'd need to address its vibes somehow. The one I rode had the non-tubular bars, I'm wondering if a tubular bar conversion (as is an option in the primary build) combined with decent bar-end dampers and 22mm steel bars might reduce the vibrations from the boxer to hands?

K 160 GT is 150 pounds heavier (top heavy) and $5K more expensive than the RT. Having owned both, the RT is a better bike, better value with much higher resale value.

You certainly made riding this beast look easy Toby, one question I have though aimed at Mark is do you blend your beans in a food processor first before bathing or just add a little daddy's sauce?
@markholroyd5365

That is a wonderful piece of engineering. The question is, this or a Goldwing? Reckon I’d go for the Honda given it’s got the DCT ‘box. 😎

I owned a Wing. The engine was silky smooth, though not as smooth IMO as the K1600. For me the more upright riding position of the K1600 makes it more suited to longer journeys and also to having some spirited fun once you get to the hills. I have tried touring on a machine I suspect the previous person alluded to but the lack of power, especially with a pillion soon becomes annoying. As you said, the DCT on the Wing is fabulous once you get used to using it, but for me it's not a deal-breaker.@@TheDervMan
