Great review, no question, that said, this thing is just the word ‘tacky’ made an SUV, outside screams ‘look at me!’ We all know that, and then the interior is just a color mess, polished metal, carbon fiber, brown leather and then quilted blue leather black piano finishes, make up your mind!! Shoutout to the Frostbite colored Challenger @14:33!

I was also able to see it in person, and I can safely say it’s not any better. I guess the design is only half of it, it’s also the fact that this huge SUV is trying to be a spiritual successor to the M1. It just feels so wrong to have a car like this follow such a great sports car of the past. Also, I think if BMW wants to try out new designs and styles, they should keep it to the concept cars. The lack of brand identity in the production cars is something that BMW should definitely take a look at. They should at least try to unify some of these styles into one design language.

I get that there's going to be a Label Red variant of the XM coming in the future that will have like 735 horsepower and improved performance, but I think the biggest issue with the XM as a whole is the fact that it's a plug-in hybrid. Now, I have no problem with hybrid vehicles, the P1, 918 Spyder, and LaFerrari are all hybrid hypercars that are loved by many. But in the case of the XM in its "base" form, it being a plug-in hybrid is somewhat of a disadvantage when you compare it to vehicles like the Urus, DBX 707, and Purosangue. Granted, I feel like the people who are going to be buying the XM aren't looking for the best-performance SUV. Instead, they want to turn heads, and the XM definitely succeeds in that department. It is without a doubt a polarizing design, but in my opinion, the XM looks a lot better than the iX which is certainly the lowest of the low when it comes to BMW design. If there was one aspect of the XM I can do without, it would be the illuminated lights that surround the grille.

Looks more meaner in this colour. Definitely prefer this grille against the 4 series and iX. Not sure on the wheels but at least there's options.

Nice to see you 'in the field', so to speak. Regarding your last question, I'm sure you'll agree that whether you like what BMW is currently doing or not, is irrelevant. As you mentioned, they are forging a future for themselves in a very cut throat industry where complacency would lead to the demise of any company. Plus, in this day and age, it is impossible to please everybody. Forget everybody, if you're able to please your core market, you're doing it right. For me personally, I'd much rather have a BMW company producing the odd car here and there that I don't care much about, than not having a BMW car company at all. They still produce some of the most iconic cars in the world.

The germans stayed conservative/recycling design for so long in their traditional design line that I don't find dem exotic or fresh at all. Just another bmw/benz...dey got comfy so much that every innovative try to facelift deir cars looks like a begginer work. Except proportions, dey always nailed it.

I’ve never been a huge fan of the BMW…I got a 535 back in the 90’s only because my lady wanted it. Great vehicle overall…I think they’re doing a pretty nice job evolving. I’m just not a fan of the huge kidney grill…but it’s growing on me 🤷🏾‍♂️👍🏾 !

The ugliest cars often have wonderful design details thrown together without coherence. The 'jet age' designs (1958-1961) and the 'Notice Me Damn It' Era of today are related. The blade fender lines of the '58 Lincoln and the jet pod taillights of the '61 Plymouth could be thrown on this Bimmer and it wouldn't hurt the design. Nothing could help it.

The color is beautiful. BMW offers some of the best colors this side of luxury cars like Bentley. A good color choice helps disguise the design. Up close the front looks cheap and plasticky, but not nearly as horrendous as the iX. The interior of the newest BMWs are just cheesy. Especially the electrified versions and M versions. Don't even get me started on the exhaust tips. The entire car looks like it's trying to target someone who won the lottery and just fell into a lot of money. The current X5 is pretty solid. But if this is the direction BMW is going, it's lo-rent. I'll never buy another.

I adore this car. But this Carbon Black metallic (dark blue) color is the worst option, except red one, of course.

Stick a fork in it, BMW is done. From the chilliest brand out there, it went to completely opposite spectrum and all they products are lukewarm at best. Shame... Such a bravado and sex appeal diminished to ashes.

The design is growing on me. I like the bold design, materials, and overall proportions. I still think some exterior design elements are overtly busy, and have a hard time getting past what this car is supposed to be in concept: an extremely expensive, halo M car that is also a huge SUV...If only these resources were placed into making a proper sports car retro/homage to the M1.

If you have to struggle to find something nice about a thing, it’s not nice at all.

Not against evolution in design but I'd rather get the 2023 X5M C any day. Better looks on the outside, doesn't have the horrible integrated screen, has convenient buttons, a full moonroof and it carries better performance figures too. Not to mention is 30K cheaper. Not extroverts... maybe narco dealers or those going for the Lamborghini Urus this is what this conceptual and unfinished beast is targeting. Just too much, it will for sure be a failure as BMW base customers are traditionalists.

Less awful than the concept car but still not my cup of tea. The Chinese and Arabs will love it, I am sure. Succes in Europe is less likely.
