At 500 Miles I always change the oil and filter on my cars.
We did a very careful break in while keeping the RPMs moving and avoiding highway driving. The more you can keep the load and rpms changing the better break in you will get. It avoids grazing the cylinders.
I wanted to change the DCT filter too and share my findings. The first service is free and paid for by GM of you take it to your Chevrolet dealer.
I do have plans to lower the car just a little more and get it more even. It's a little higher at the front than the back back.

I would like to see more about adding the two extra quarts of transmission oil. Thanks for your video. FYI, the European oil is not formulated for catalytic convertors. I believe it has too much ash in it for our cats. Something like that.

I didn't know the C8 had a DTC filter. Not getting soaked while changing the filter looked like a challenge. Lots of good car guy stuff!

My 23 dct filter was at 3%😅 at my 7500 mile service luckily it was free and also added 2qts extra

Your mechanic used the wrong torx bits, the normal star torx does not fit right, that is why he had to cut them down, the correct ones are called six point torx plus, they are hard to come by, you have to order them from a special tool store.

Man the new zo6 with the flat plane crank reving to 9000k RPM just sounds so much better then the regular c8 corvette imo because you get the exotic car look and it sounds like one too

The problem is you can only really hear the distinct sound on the Z06 at 8-9k rpm range. During normal daily driving it sounds like a normal stingray in Z mode

I knew there had to be an easier way to add 2 quarts. Also I was always told and have done on my new cars is to not break in a engine with synthetic oil !

I'm going to stay with the GM oil filter. I don't like the restriction of the Mobil 1 smaller holes. Why take a chance on starvation at high rpm?

Did you not do the DCT flush procedure before pulling the filter? This is what GM dealers do along with a leak test (also software initiated).

The dry sump doesn’t have a separate drain plug from the oil pan like the C7 Z51’s did?

Nope. It all comes down to a single drain point. Oil changes on the C8 are easy and performed just like any other vehicle. Only exception is oil levels are checked with the engine running and at operating temp of 175°F.

I launched the TREMEC C-8 transaxle. FUCHS makes the fluid for GM-TREMEC. There is no "break in" fluid unless they have changed it. The cost and adding another variable to the equation did not happen in my time at TREMEC. A small filter, high debris, and the final drive gear design makes trans fluid management important for the C 8. Don't ignore it.

That’s good to know. The small debris was my concern even though I’m pretty easy on my cars. The thought of having dealer blasting through on book rate was enough to take whatever precautions I could.

@@LHTPerformance Because TREMEC ignored the HYPOID GEAR standard set by GM they used a straight bevel final drive gear (for packaging purposes). One tooth to one tooth contact for the final drive gear. That final drive gear material cost is staggering. Hypoid gears have 2.1-2.7 or so teeth contacts...so the load is spread out. Not on the current design. So, special coating and a precision break in is needed or the gear metallurgy falls apart. KEEP the fluid clean...change the filter OFTEN. Then, you might get a long life out of the transaxle. The trans fluid and final drive gear lube are ONE and the same. There is no engine fluid mix with this FUCHS fluid.

Did you consider the C8 Z06 when you were shopping? Is the C8 Z06 going to be on your future bucket list?

I’ve had one order since Jan 2020. They are pretty hard to get unless you pay a huge mark up.

I took my '23 in for the first service (2400 miles) and the advisor asked if I wanted to also change the DCT filter. I said sure. What's the harm? The car has always driven fine but when I got it back from service, the car now intermittently doesn't engage in 1st gear. Not sure how to explain it but it sorta dives forward and doesn't move unless you re-engage the throttle gently then it will move forward. I immediately told the advisor when I left that it was doing this and had never done this before. They had their transmission tech look at it and he said everything is fine. It's not.

Without double checking the fluid level, there’s isn’t much to check in the outside. I can’t see how the filter would change anything. Was the software updated at the same time ?

@@LHTPerformance thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I just wonder if they forgot to use one of the o-rings or didn't push it up until it was seated? They initially said it might be that the sump where the filter sits might not have filled with fluid but it's been 2 weeks and 500 miles since. I didn't ask about the software update but they're having me take it back in 3 weeks when their transmission tech is available.

Question regarding the Trans filter. I see you replaced the filter and added 2 quarts of tranny oil but, did you replace the old tranny oil or left it in after replacing the filter then just added 2 quarts? Is it too hard to replace the trans oil altogether at once or you felt its fine and you'll do that at the recommend chevy interval at that time? Great video. May have to find somekind of lift to do it myself.

Why do you add two quarts of DCT fluid when only a small amount came out when you removed the filter housing cover?

In the service manual it recommends adding 2 quarts for spirited driving or track days. Some believe it helps prevent the transmission from failing.

So do you twist the trans filter cover clockwise or counter clockwise? Or is doesnt matter?

The housing unscrews counter clockwise. The filter itself pulls out. Twist is back and forth to make it easier.

@@LHTPerformance thanks for the quick reply. Good to know. It must be a quarter turn or a little more. Just got my 2023 c8 Stingray LT3 a week ago. Hypersonic Gray metalic with the stealth package interior and badges, carbon flash Metalic mirrors and spoiler, rockers and tire flaps. The Gray metalic is an awesome color. Looks fantastic in person and the metal flake in this paint is above normal when in the sun. Great car and haven't broke it in yet. That's why I'm looking at your videos. Great information and will change out trans filter then add 2 more quarters of tran fluid to keep it cooler and change engine oil at 1,000 miles. Then eventually get on it at 2500 miles instead of 1500. Just want to make sure the engine and transmission is all seated well before doing so. Keep up the great videos. 👍

There's no such thing as "break-in" oil or oil with "break-in" fluids in it anymore and hasn't been for years. The Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil that Corvettes are filled with at the factory, is the same oil you can buy off the shelf. Synthetic oils get darker faster cuz they keep the carbon buildup to a minimum, help clean existing carbon & sludge build up, and keep the contaminants suspended instead of letting them stick.

I believe there’s a dry film that’s added to the bores and rings during assembly, that’s kind of a break fluid to help the rings seat quicker.

Why, oh WHY do people have to lower everything?! Just to say they did it??? Hopefully you have glass-smooth streets everywhere .... I'd be RAISING the rear 1" if I did anything. Have to re-aim headlights then too! Stud cars, but don't drop it any more please......

You should ask Chevrolet why they lower the Z06 ….It’s way Looks better, handles better lowered. I wouldn’t ever raise it up, it will like an all terrain vehicle. C

GM and I love crazy Corvette owners. 500 mile break in oil change and dct filter change is rediculus and a waste of money. Don't get me wrong I was in the burn money club before. The reality is only 1% of C8 driver's drive their car hard enough to be considered "Extreme use" most old dudes like this guy aren't even close.

Absolutely not a waste of money. Not don’t take my word for it. Instead check out Lake Speed Jr.’s opinion on his channel The Oil Geek. He’s a lubrication specialist and I bet he knows quite a bit more about oil and changing it as soon as you can from the factory oil. Also LHT, give Pennzoil Ultra Platinum a try, or Amsoil. Both better than Mobil 1. Also I’d take a Wix XP filter over GM and M1 filters any day.

In conjunction with changing the oil at 500, take a sample of it and send out to be analyzed, then compare to later oil drains and see what the contaminant levels are.

Odd to ask in this video I know, but since the topic is breaking.... I have an Integra Type S that just hit 500 miles Haven't taken it over 5k yet. Mainly stuck between 3500-4000 thus far. How did you break your Type R in? At what mileage did you first take it to redline?

The engine doesn’t really require a break in. It’s more important to break in the clutch than anything else. I wouldn’t go crazy but taking to redline now it fine, I’d change the oil at 1000 miles either way.

@@onnu2001 I’m getting my information from Honda direct. The engine break in is really just the rings. The rings seat in a few miles. I’m just a little over cautious
