You all wanted answers so I hit the ground and got with as many Ford contacts as I could and asked the questions as to where did the 6.8 Baby Zilla go in the 2023 Ford Super Duty. Well it's a complicated formula but we are seeing it from all the manufacturers and have for the past few years as some options disappear and reappear as supply chains get fulfilled. It's frustrating for sure, but there are silver linings, and some let downs, but I'm going to give you what they are telling me, what I've seen. Again, they can and will do what they want to build these new Heavy Duty trucks, whether that means changing up the way you can order. They need to put out the numbers, and they control the supply. the market with the demand is already there.

Just bought an XL STX F350’supercrew 6.8 off the lot and was damn happy .

The 10R100 is behind all 6.8 engines. The 10R140 is behind the 7.3 and diesel engines. The 10R80 is in the 1/2 ton trucks. It is still cheaper to get the 7.3 when spec'd as an XLT rather than the STX debacle. What no one can tell me is what the heck is up with the 'new' axles in the '23s. What axles are available w/ these trucks? Supposedly a 11.6" is the 'heavy duty' axle w/ the 250 diesel, but that is all that is stated on the build site. I have noticed that the 11.6" axle has the giant hubs like those on my Dana M275 4.3 geared '22 7.3. I have seen those giant hubs on 250s and 350s w/ 7.3 engines, but so far, no one from a Ford dealer of whom I checked knows jack squat.

I can tell you without a doubt that if you get a F-250 or F350 it will not come with a Dana 60 you have to go to an f-450 to get a Dana 60. 2023s and after.

You are right. I have learned a bit since this post. They now use the smaller Intertech Dana axle up front. I purchased a 250 Zilla in November that came w/ the 11.6 in the rear, and the new Dana up front. @@tripac3392

The 6.8 was only available in the XL trim when I ordered my Lariat 11/2/22 I wanted a 6.8 they told me no 6.8 in anything but XL still waiting for my order no word from Ford?????? Maybe get one in a year or so

I hope they can get caught up asap, many people wanted that engine in the up trim package. I know of one king ranch and two lariat that are here with their owners that got the 6.8....but they ordered in 22. Options will come and go for the unforeseeable future from manufacturers....😕

"The new 6.8L gas engine is standard on XL, with STX package allowing an option for 7.3L gas engine. Beginning at XLT, the 7.3L gas becomes the standard engine". This is a direct quote from the buyers guide dated 10/25/23. The 6.8 was never intended to be the base motor for anything above the XL this year. I cannot find out how to post a photo of the buyers guide here.

@Randy Vest nothing hard and fast set in stone by ford, but I know of one king ranch and Two lariat with their owners 6.8. And from ford it was an option even on their site up to about two months ago if I remember right, give or take a week or so. Time will tell, but from my ford people the 6.8 is very much intended to be the base engine.

Seems to have great power as compared to the 7.3 and I would even go as far to say there is not enough of a difference between the power outputs to make a difference especially to pay extra for the 7.3. They need to make the 7.3 with more power to make it more appealing next year.

10r100 tranny with 6.8, they aren't really telling us about that, glad it took me a while to figure out all the ordering mess, i probably would have ended up with one, sounds like the motor should be good, but for me, another new 10 speed, no thanks, they seem to be overdoing everything anymore, hard to get a plain simple work truck anymore

So is it true that the 10 speed transmission behind the 6.8 L is the same transmission that is in the half ton trucks?

No, it had an n moniker but is the same torque shift you get in the remaining 7.3 and 6.7 trucks. Shift points and slight gear ratio changes but just as robust

No...that is not true...that is incorrect. The older F150 trucks have the 6R80 while the newer F150 trucks have the 10R80 transmission. The older 2011-2019 Super Duty trucks have the 6R140 behind the 6.7L diesel and 6.2L gas engines. The newer 2020-2023 Super Duty trucks have two different models of transmissions. First Model - the 10R100 is behind the new 6.8L gas engine. Second Model - the 10R140.....with TWO different build versions that have slightly different internal components and parts...one version is behind the 6.7L diesel engines (standard and H.O.) and the other version is behind the 7.3L gas engine.
