Thanks for your nice clip and yes, I do have the same generator and am surprised that everybody I have been watching cranks on their generator and let it run at about 3,500 rpm being ice-cold. I am a Diesel guy and always let combustion engines warm up a bit and the first thing I have done to my Predator generator was installing a spring to the carburetor making sure it does idle during the warm up period at ~1,000 rpm since warm oil is much slicker than cold lubricants. Take care and enjoy your "toys"!

I do check the oil and just did today and its still clean looking also checked the airfilter and it was like new truly amazed how clean it looked. Here is a reminder about portable generator safety: everyone really needs to see this safety reminder to make sure. This advice is just to make sure that everyone is aware of all the warnings and it’s just to remind people to be careful using portable generators. Generators can be dangerous if not used carefully. Every year, hundreds of people die or get injured when using portable generators due to carbon monoxide poisoning and electrocution. Make sure you are using your generator carefully and keeping others safe as well. There is something very serious that everyone should always be aware of when using generators. Some people do run their generator indoors which is not safe and that increases the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning which can cause death of family and you. Some people run their generator in wet conditions which can electrocute them. Please remember that you should never run your generator indoors. Remember that carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide is a silent killer. Keep that in mind. Make sure your generator is 15-20 feet away from your house and away from doors, windows, and vents. Never use your generator in your porch too. Having a carbon monoxide detector is very important against generator safety. Some people also allow children to go near the portable generator which could pose risks. We need to keep an eye on our children making sure that they are not near the portable generator so they won’t get electrocuted or burned by the generator which is dangerous. A locking enclosure also keeps kids safe. A generator shed might look like a tempting place to explore, or take cover during a game of hide and seek, but a generator is a dangerous piece of equipment that can cause injury. It says on the manual that we should also keep children away at all times from the portable generator to avoid injuries. Please do not allow a child or unqualified people to operate the portable generator. Just because some manuals missed what should be listed doesn’t mean it’s safe to do. Always follow the generator safety rules when using portable generators. Generators pose electrical risks. If you need to use your generator during wet weather, you need a generator tent to protect your generator from getting wet. Don’t let your generator get wet. Keep your generator dry and before using your generator, please make sure your hands and your generator is dry. Do not wear loose clothing when operating the generator. Everything that is said on the generator’s operating manual should not be ignored. Never smoke cigarettes near the generator. Please keep flammable things away from the generator. Never overload your generator too. Your generator can catch fire. Never ever try to plug a generator cord into a wall outlet to avoid back feeding. Back feeding your generator is dangerous. Always turn on your generator first before plugging in appliances and shut off the appliances before turning your generator off. Use a heavy duty cord for your generator and the cord should not be worn out. All the instructions should be followed carefully. Never refuel your generator while it’s running. It can cause fire if fuel spills while your generator is hot. You should turn off your generator and let it cool off before refueling it. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important. This is only a reminder for everyone’s safety of using generators. Make sure your generator is properly grounded. Having a fire extinguisher next to the generator is also important against the safety rules. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f5eah5Zys6uypn0.html and here is a video more about keeping others safe when using generators and also about our family’s safety. Hope this helps. Thank you.

Picked up one of these that had problems. Looked fairly new but. The crank would not turn. Took off valve cover, then head. Valve stem broke, and valve was imbedded into the top of the piston. Good news was that the cylinder walls were still in great shape. Torn it down, replaced the piston, valves, and head, and worked great after this.

Your disassembly would confirm that these so called metal particles that every purchaser of a Preator see is NOT metal but Graphite/Graphine pre-assembly lube. Use the Full Synthetic Oil instead of Mineral Oil, minimum 10 - 40 (Air Cooled.) and it will last you forever. Even 10 - 50 Full Synthetic is like water, but far superior Protection and the Oil will stay CLEAN.. Think of an Engine like a Human Body, require Clean uncontaminated Air, High quality Food, Uncontaminated Blood (Oil.) and ability to Cools as needed. (Coolant.) Provide these four items and it will love You as much as You love it.

He got the one with the piece of crap plastic air cleaner box… the throttle plate is held in the carb by a little piece of plastic. It’s a pos. The throttle plate on mine was laying in the bottom of the air cleaner box right out of the box when I got home with it. I took it back and got one with the metal air cleaner box. By the way. The tri fuel kits don’t fit the plastic air box. They are only made for the metal air box. I’m getting a kit from PNG technologies. Gonna plumb it from my natural gas meter and hook it up with a manual transfer connection to the house. I should be able to run my whole house off of it. Over all nice video 👍

I've had good luck with mine. Around here, until recently we lost power ~every 6 weeks for 4 to 8 hours, and a couple of times over 1.5 and 2.5 days. Most of the additional weight for the higher capacity ones is in the generator itself as the lower capacity ones use the same motor. However, the 13 hp. 420cc Honda clone motor will limit it to ~6500 watts continuous. (HP/2=KW for mechanical generators.) Lest those who believe they can buy a lower capacity one than 6500 continuous and still get that with that motor, you won't. The generator itself will limit you then and will kick out. Another thing to watch out for on generators is the breakers. Often they will be under the size required for the output of the generator. Cumulatively they will not be, but it you connect it to your house, you may find that that breaker to the 240v plug is breakered for less than the continuous rating of the generator, which makes the capacity unusable from a practical standpoint. Very few are going to use both the 120v outlets plus the 240v plug. This one is good in that regard. (30x240=7200) Why 30 amps? Because the outlets, cords, and wiring are a lot cheaper and smaller than 50 amp. Grounding is a "whole 'nother kettle of fish" when it comes to using a portable generator for a house backup generator and it may appear not to be compatible, but with a schematic, it is easily doable. When it comes to Tri-Fuel, beware of the carburetors being sold on eBay and elsewhere. They look like a clean way to go, but they DO NOT WORK in the US. The US uses 1/4 psi pre-meter in-house for natural gas, while Europe and many other places in the world use twice that or more, and that is where those carburetors work, even though they are sold without mentioning that. For the US, due to the lower in-house operating pressures for natural gas, you MUST have the large diameter diaphragm to be able to meter properly, and the separate big diaphragm makes a mess of things. You are going to take a pretty good hit on horsepower with natural gas as well. That same motor will net you ~5,000 watts.

Thank you. Better be safe than sorry. Have a good one

The 13 hp. 420cc Honda clone motor will limit it to ~6500 watts continuous. (HP/2=KW for mechanical generators.) 11.4 hp, if true, will only get you 5.7K continuous. Grounding is a "whole 'nother kettle of fish" when it comes to using a portable generator for a house backup generator and it may appear not to be compatible, but with a schematic, it is easily doable. The difference in prices between brands is a little bit name brand, support, built in monitoring for load, cycles, and hour meters, the design of the frame, and if it comes with wheels and their quality. You will never add those to Harbor Freight model and have it come out cheaper. Support for replacement parts is big, and Harbor Freight won't help you there. The upside is they are Honda clones, which means the parts are interchangeable from many sources that will bolt right up. Where you run into issues are things like gas tank mounts, etc. and many things other than the engine.

Why is it that Every Predator Owner talks about first Run-In and oil change to remove the metal particles they find, sorry but if I bought an Engine that produced this amount of metal particles on first run-up, I would return it and request a refund. If this was true then this Engine would be destroyed within the first two hours of running. No small Engine manufacturer would survive if this was true. What you are seeing is NOT metal but Graphite/Graphine Engine Pre-assembly Lube. Don't forget these items sit in storage for long periods of time and normal oil would weep from the main engine components and Dry Start would occur. I see people talk about Magnetic Filler plugs option to take the metal out of the oil, Graphit/Graphine is Magnetic. I also recommend FULL Synthetic oils for better protection than any of the mineral oils, because these engines are Air Cooled a minimum of 10-40, I use 10-50 when possible in Australia because of the temperatures. We do not get as cold as the US, be we get down to 0 degrees at times where I am. Nulon, Castrol or Mobil One are my choices depending on Specials as we pay around $75 - $80 for 5 litre's. As a side note why is it that ONLY Preditor Generators have this so called Metal problem out of ALL of the different Generators on KZfaq, simply Predators Choice of Assembly Lube.

I've decided on the Predator 9000 (8750 if I can find it). One thing I have seen in EVERY video is the person is only using ONE outlet (the 4 prong 120/240) to connect to the house. That outlet is rated 30A ~3300W, keep in mind a 9000W generator will send ~80A at full load. You have to split that up with the 4 outputs (20A, 20A, 30A, 30A). I would think you would need 1 load on each of the two 20A plugs (fridge, gas furnace or mini split), and a 3 prong and 4 prog ( connecting to separate transfer switches. Connect most of your continuous draw items to the 3 prong, and your big startup items to the 120/240.
@Pk3_Garage
@Pk3_Garage 3 жыл бұрын
Good points, but I think your a little confused how the generator power output is used. The 30amp plugs are rated for 3625 watts per leg. There are two legs on the generator. So when your using the 4 prong or 3 prong plug, you will be able to use the entire 7250 watts of continues power. (Its recommended to only use about 80 percent continuously) The 30 amp breaker, works just like a double pole breaker in your main panel for your Central Air, Well pump, etc. So, each leg of the generator has 30 amps to work with. That's why you should always use a transfer switch that has watts meters, to monitor each leg of the generator. You want to equally distribute the load to both sides of the generator, to prevent over load. I hope this makes since.
@thebluelunarmonkey
@thebluelunarmonkey 3 жыл бұрын
@@Pk3_Garage Ahh. Great so the predator can output full wattage thru the 4 prong. Looking closer at the transfer switch I was looking at, it does has two watt meters and the first 5 breakers are tied to 1 watt meter and the other 5 breakers are tied to the 2nd watt meter. And understand load balancing two separate 110s from a 240. Makes sense, thanks!
