I purchased my 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T April 2019. I currently have over 103K miles on it. No problems. Schedule Maintenance, set of tires, replace rear Brembo brakes. I don't baby my baby! Most people seem to rent new BMW'S, rather than purchase them. I wonder 🤔 why? The only thing that I didn't like ,was the infotainment screen, but Genesis provided me with an update, now it's nice! BMW makes great cars, I just prefer the Genesis.

I got to do extended test drives with both, and I ended up going with the M340i. The G70 absolutely nails it on the value front, but something about the M340i just put a bigger smile on my face. BMW's B58 is absolutely legendary, and when you combine it with the ZF 8 speed auto, it's literally one of the best powertrains currently on sale. The 3.3T in the Genesis is also good, but it doesn't have the sound or theater that the B58 offered. Obviously if money is a major factor, the G70 wins hands down, but if you can stretch a bit, the M340i is the better package IMO.

Didn't compare the top spec genesis to the top spec BMW.... The top spec has quilted nappa leather. Heads up display and 360 camera for 57k. Also awd and massive warranty difference.

Since the Genesis G70 was engineered by former BMW Motorsport's Albert Biermann it's no surprise it has many of the same traits. I shopped a 2023 M240i (MSRP $54,000) as I've owned more than 25 Bimmers, but the delivered price compared to a 2023 G70 AWD Sport Advanced (MSRP $54,100) was staggering. The BMW would have been a bit over $18,000 plus my 2020 low miles Mustang GT Premium convertible trade, the G70 $9,900 and the trade! Love the car and the money saved.

I cross shopped both cars and picked the M340 with performance exhaust. I have loved every second of it with zero issues

Seems like you would have had a closer match options and brakes wise if you had the G70 Sport Prestige. It would give you the HUD and Brembo brakes. I’ve had a previous Gen. BMW 3 series and from week 1 it had issues with the electronics. I would be very cautious buying a BMW that’s not under warranty unless you have unlimited car repair funds. I now have a 2022 G70 Sport Prestige and I like the fact that I don’t see the same car constantly like I did with my BMW. To each their own, buy whatever you like!

For the money and warranty available the Genesis is a tempting option.Add in the cost of ownership, maintenance costs and reliability and Genesis is a no brainer.

I have a M340i and I can tell you that it’s worth every penny. The performance is amazing.

The G70 Sport Prestige 3.3T AWD would have been a better comparison, Brembo brakes, 360 cameras, heads up display, upgraded interior materials etc….and still 13k less expensive.

3:00 one thing to note is that the BMW fob also has remote start! you just press the lock button three times. At least this was how it worked with my 2021 m340i.

The Genesis is good, but the BMW is the finer, better engineered car.

I'm a BMW fan...but for my money, I'd go with the Genny G70. I'd take the Genesis on styling and interior alone..

Don't need a separate button on the BMW key for remote start, you just press the lock bitton three times.

You should have compared the top model sport prestige which I own. Brakes are better. The car is amazing

I have a 2019 G70 2.0T and I love it. Beats the 2019 3 series in some respects aside from cost, but there is no denying the BMW magic when it comes to faster 0-60 times AND better fuel economy for a similar model. The differences with the six cylinder models are pretty bad. A lot of that cost saving comes from less aluminum, no mild hybrid, and an older heavier engine.

Buy the genesis, then tune it for 1-2k. Then you not only got more performance, but more luxury. Enjoy your cooled seats

24mpg in the city, more hp and better exhaust sound. The BMW won right there for me. Hate digital cluster though.

I test drove both, they both scare me. I bought the m340i tho - waiting on production now :P The M340i also has better back seat room IMO and feels more luxury. Genesis is also nice but I could tell the diff on BMW being more premium materials imo and I liked the interior better

Drove them both. I'd go with the Genesis because it's a great driver's car, great value, better warranty and I have an attraction for things thats not part of the masses, it makes it feel a bit more special. I'd go with the BMW because it's also a great driver's car, better features, (althought I cant stand that you have to do a lot of things through the screen now) that B58 motor is tried an true and it's more efficient.

Rear: M340i > G70 Front: G70 > M340i Dash: M340i > G70 (I don't like the half digital half physical thing they are doing) Infotainment display: G70 > M340i (although BMW's software is better) When evenly specced out, the G70 is nearly 20k CAD less than the M340i which is not a small amount. Obviously money not being an issue you'd definitely go with the M340i, but the G70 is much better value.

I Have a 2022 G70 3.3tt that i Purchased in April 2022. If im being Honest i was Looking for Either a New 340xi(Was told that BMW wasn't Releasing the Cars from the Port) or S5 Sportback (Audi wanted $14,000 over MSRP 🤬) I dont have many Regrets besides my G70 is Fully Loaded and i Left the Lot at around 58K after Taxes and Tags. While the 340's Numbers are Bonkers i just couldn't Justify coming out the Pocket with another 18K. 🤦🏾‍♂️ I've Been Considering getting a Jp4 tune but dont want to Void my Warranty so im Holding off at the Moment but im having a lot of Fun with the Car. Some would say maybe even too much(I Have 31,000 Miles on my 1 Year Old Car) 🤦🏾‍♂️ Besides Being in a Costco Gas Line Twice a Week im Obviously Enjoying my Car!

Both are nice cars but I think the BMW is definitely the way to go if you’ve got some spare cash, then the Genesis is good if you need something really nice but maybe you’re low on cash.

I would go with the Genesis for overall value and style. But I ended up going with the KIA stinger last year, despite visibility being a slight issue.

Gotta go with g70. It’s different from the rest. BMW are everywhere and all look very similar imo. G70 is unique, looks classy but sporty at same time also a lot more cheaper. Only worry would be reliability, but that’s the same issue with BMW.

Genesis is a beauty. Superior.

Take it from someone who had a 2022 M340i.....DON'T BUY IT!!! In less than 18 months, I was in the service center 6 to 8 times. Electrical issues that included problems with: radio, instrument panel, speakers, windows. I also had issues with the drive train/power train. My transmission even went out in the middle of the 405 freeway. I tried to get BMW to declare it a lemon, they said no! The Lemon Law lawyers also did not want to take my case. I QUIT THE BRAND AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!

If you have 50k, get the Genesis. If you can stretch the budget to 60k, get the BMW. It's just a better drivers car but the Genesis is the value leader.

Considering the direct competitor to the G70 is actually the 330i, not the M340i, and yet everyone feels the need to compare it to the M340i - that tells you just how much better the Genesis is versus any other vehicle in its class.

shoulda compared the Sport Prestige G70 , love my 23 G70 SP but that Linden Dealership was in my opinion less than honest dealing with me. so much so that I am forgoing the free maintenance. just doing it myself.

Genesis would never be at the level of BMW no matter how much power they put on their cars

G70 = you can daily comfortably. its more like GT m340i = stiffer but more capable

As a genesis owner 1 big issue with all kias hyyndai cars is sunroof whistle. Very common. Other then that and the cheap brake pads they put on the genesis . There brembo calipers but matted with cheap kia pads that wear out fast and squeak

I decided to go with the G70. I agree with the comment that it feels 90|95% of a BMW 340i (and much better than the m340i of the previous generation) in a very attractive package. Also Genesis has been at the top of reliability charts in the past 2 yrs (even beating Lexus and Porsche, what an achievement) AND last but not least, scheduled maintenance is free of charge for 5 yrs ( in Canada) . That got me convinced. Only regret : the sound track is a bit better with the BMW. Got a 2004 Z4 3.0i with sport package for summer to make me remember :)

The BMW is for the guy that has to fit in with the Jones next door in his uppity neighborhood. Genesis G70 sport prestige is great value and bang for the buck. for the 13k price difference. Genesis is my choice🤷🏻‍♂️

The Genesis may be slightly cheaper, but after a few years of that horrible fuel economy is going to get a lot closer to even.

It's difficult to compare the BMW brand, with its proven B58 engine, to an up-and-coming Genesis. Despite the value aspect, for anything past $50k+ , I'd choose a prestigious brand like BMW over Kia, Hyundai, or Genesis.

Business Lease, I'm going with BMW. For personal ownership for 7+ years, It's Genesis for me..

The BMW is both more powerful and more efficient! That’s hard to do unless you know something the other guy doesn’t!

Should have compared the Genesis G70 Sport Prestige against the M340i.

The Genesis uses the same engine as the discontinued Kia Stinger (discontinued)and I haven’t read anything bad about those. Hyundai had a lot of problems with their smaller capacity engines up until 2020, but they have since done a comp,eye upgrade and revision of their plant.

You aren't using the right model of G70 for this comparison. This is the entry level V6 model. The top of the line has more options. So this comparison doesn't mean much.

For 31 years Albert Biermann was in charge of BMW's M performance division. He left BMW to become President and Head of the Research and Development at Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis). There is a very good reason the G70 drives like (or better than) a BMW. It is the same reason why Hyundai's performance division is called "N." After all, what logically comes after "M?"

I think id still pick the bmw. you say both trans are responsive but im sure the bmw paddle shifts are a lot faster (so the trans. is better), the bmw also gets much better mpg. the genesis gets worse avg mpg than my powerboost f150. i would also think the adaptive suspension in the bmw is better. i do think bmw’s have gotten crazy expensive and charge too much for options that are standard on cars far less expensive (e.g., toyotas).

Why would he compare an M performance vs the Genesis? Of course that's going to have better driving dynamics!

“Benchmarking” is what that is

Over the long haul the G70 would be less to own. Service would be less on the genesis and it’s $20k cheaper. Which means you can opt for the sport plus option for another $7k and still be $13k less than the BMW. Think I’d choose the G70.

Genesis seems to be luxury first and performance / fun second. It looks like a Bentley. So I think for pure fun the BMW is way better and looks more agile. For more of a cruiser / Bentley type of GT car the genesis is probably the one

Gotta' love BMW. Exactly how much do BMW customers pay to have the fake noise? (yes indeed: BMW has baked into its cars something called "Active Sound Design". Simply put, it “digitally re-creates the exhaust noise and plays the sound through the car’s speakers.” Even more simply, they fake it.) With the full "M Spec" getting into the $80K range ..... a great set of ear buds and a play list from a Formula1race would be a damn site cheaper. Could also go the tricked out little Honda Prelude tuner car route too.

There is no added value proposition with the Hyundai. First off, the mpg. The BMW gets 10 more mpg. 20 combined for the Hyundai? That's SUV territory. The bw gets into the mid 30s hwy. The Hyundai can pull maybe 23 at 85mph. The Hyundai residual tanks, and the materials wear out. My dad is a professional car deliverer for BMW and Hyundai. He delivers new and used of both brands, so he shows up with all sorts of models and years. Hyundais may wow in the showroom, and look good when new, but they don't hold up. The BMW interiors seems to look new forever. Used models from four years ago look unused inside. At 20K mi, the Hyundai looks four+ years old. The way Hyundai saves $ is by sourcing cheap materials. The Hyundai also has known engine/drivetrain and brake issues. Why? Because, once again, they skimp. Also, the square bore-stroke V-6 is anemic compared to the i-6. Maybe the hyundai is a good car to least, because you don't have to keep it.

The Genesis when it comes to the value at top trim compared to the BMW just smokes it. If you don’t care about bang for the buck BMW probably a better option for you
