Vols fan here - great content and would love something like this in our domain - watching this tape makes me think that the Heupel offense will exploit this defense with the wide splits and heavy run first theory - key for VOLS will be early passing efficiency

The D was much better. Thanks for the breakdown. We are much better coached, it's obvious, with multiple looks, coverages and schemes between the D line an LBs. We will definitely get even better. I could see our D giving UT fits, as well as other spread teams. We appear to be much better disciplined and meshed together as an entire unit.

I went to the swamp last year for that exciting but unfortunate interception at the end of the game so this was a little sweet revenge. I think Utah's defense won that game combined with some Florida mistakes along the way!

Love these videos. Great work. Myself, like many others, was disappointed that we didn’t get any sacks. However, we did t get any last year vs Utah and I think it is relevant to point out that Utah is very good at not allowing sacks. In 2022, they allowed the 13th fewest sacks per game. In 2021, they allowed the 4th fewest sacks per game. 2020 was a “bad” year for them as they were 23rd. This is out of nearly 130 teams. They just don’t run an offense that gives up sacks.

I'm back again with the breakdowns this year! Love to see the improvements. I know we have a heavy zone rushing attack. Given the Oline issues and not a huge rushing threat at quarterback, I think our best shot this year is spreading the offense out and taking advantage of linebackers in space. Running backs have to become better pass protectors and route runners. Carrol's injury showed up huge in my opinion. He was huge, great for pass pro and was also outstanding ball catcher out the backfield

Everyone likes to reminders us that Utah was missing 8 or 9 starters, while the gators were missing 17 starters from last year lol

Lets go! Totally agree about your comments with the defense. It was much more aggressive and most importantly to me it was much more aggressive to stop the run! Great breakdown as always from you James and much appreciated. I will point out that over the last 25 years of college football the team that has won the championship has only allowed an average of above 110 yards per game or less rushing. I definitely see us improving that in just the first game and coach Ham (lol) has obviously made that an emphasis. Gap control and rush lane angles are much improved. I really liked the fact that you pointed out that under Toney we would often only have 3 guys on the line of scrimmage in obvious run situations and players were often nowhere close to the line of scrimmage at the snap. Excited to see how well they continue to play despite how the offense plays throughout the year. Go GATORS!

Great breakdown, coming from a Ute fan. I’ll definitely be watching the Tennessee game and your subsequent breakdown of that film. Florida did a nice job against Utah defensively, but you gotta think it’s much worse if Rising and Kuithe are playing.

If you were like me and didn't get to watch this game because of the assholes at Disney pulling their channels from Spectrum and all you saw were the stats, you would be as confused as I was when I saw the score. The defense actually played quite well. But man our O-Line is dogwater right now. I'm also ECTATIC that our 3rd down defense only allowed 2 conversions the entire game. Conversely, our inability go convert on 3rd was rough to watch. My only gripe is with our LB's. This bunch definitely doesn't feel like the dominant LB core we normally have at UF. Hopefully James can learn some discipline and become one of those LB's for us.

It seems like the scheme and assignment ball has improved. But Im still seeing way too much yards after contact allowed. Initial contact at or behind LOS and ball carrier still getting 2 or 3 yards. Need more practice on tackling IMO

This shit gets me so pumped. A lot to look forward to this year- will be watching this defense grow all year with confidence. Young players all over getting good coaching is what UF has needed.
