Tried & true classical homeschooling materials + some new to me materials as well for 2023!
While our reversion does change a few things, we will still be using the classical, history based homeschool model - so the flow of our days will remain about the same.
I’ll link all of the materials I use, but be sure to compare prices with the publisher, you can usually find bundle discounts of the publisher site as well

I’ve been enjoying your channel, watching a bit of sourdough and cooking, then listening about your views on birth (just had my first home birth since my views have changed a lot!), and then learning you are Catholic and now seeing your homeschool stuff makes me really happy!!! It’s so nice to see there are kindred spirits out there, especially since I haven’t found many close by. I’m your neighbor over here in Kansas! 😉

Loved this so much especially the part about you as parents deciding what the children will do. Amazing to me how that seems like a novel idea in the HS world right now. I have graduated four kiddos from homeschool and have three more to go! 9th, 4th and 2nd grade. I do a four day week and always have. The older kids have one heavy day but enjoy the longer weekend. Really really enjoy your channel!! ~Janelle

I love letting my kids explore their own interests but not until we have our formal lessons done and they do what is expected of them. There is a balance and I am so glad I found Charlotte mason because I feel like it meshes so well with my parenting style since homeshcool is definitely an extension of parenting. We also use math u see and explode the code. We are starting full ambleside online this year though (last year we did a riches co-op) with our basics so I’m super excited! Trying to homestead and stay organized has been a challenge lately. I would love a fresh video on your routine once you get back into the groove of things. Thank you for sharing!

As someone who always struggled with Math and dyslexia, I definitely depend on Khan Academy for all math above 1st grade. Our daughters love the points based self directed tests and the entire program is completely free. Online learning is not the answer for every subject, but if you’re stretched thin teaching multiple children or if it’s subject you’re not as strong in, it’s an amazing tool!

I’m definitely an unschool parent, but that’s down to suspected adhd and autism with PDA so structure isn’t the easiest. With that said, my 5 year old taught herself to read by 4. I let her use duo abc a few minutes a day since 1.5 so it was just a fun game to her at the time and she’s now able to read at the same level as an average 9 year old. She’s learned simple maths with another app (the name escapes me at the moment) a few years ago too. My kids definitely need to think it’s a game to learn or else it’s so boring to them they just shut off. My 11 year old was learning Swedish on duolingo because its, his words, “a funny language” which helped him keep interest. I do wish I could have them sit down and do workbooks, but that will only happen when pigs fly 🤭 I envy your ability (not sure of a better word to use here) to have this sort of routine with your kids 😅

We are in our 3 years homeschooling this year and are big on teaching our catholic faith, I also say if they learn one thing from me I hope it is they know who they r as a catholic. For cursive we use writing our Catholic faith I get it off amazon and my child really likes the consecration to st. Joseph for children and families.

Oh, and I agree- I don’t do anything formal before 5. And my current 5 year old is doing a very very gentle “preschool” type since she turned 5 just before school started. My other kids were 6 before we really started reading. It’s worked well for us! But definitely I agree 5-6 is a good time. Now my 9 (almost 10) year old does 80% of her work independently because she is a proficient reader!

Your curriculum choices a almost similar to mine. Would you be able to do more homeschool videos? I was looking at the Secret Stories but there isn't much review here on youtube. I think your advice is wise in the reading but I want to comment on anyone whose children maybe are really struggling with reading. My dad is severely dyslexic ( he learned to read at 22) my mom homeschooled me and my severely dyslexic sister and my oldest child is also severely dyslexic. It’s interesting talking to my dad about it as he can articulate the challenges well, I would not to phonics, maybe Teaching trees dyslexic games books are ok. And do many many audio books, it’s going to take a lot more I put from you as the teacher and PRAY. Prayer was the biggest thing that helped my oldest, but she almost 9 and it’s just not clicking but that is just what’s happening, she’s caught up with everything because I help her and we use audio books.

@crazychicken4063 11 ай бұрын
But there is plenty of curriculum and online resources that could do the teaching for the parent who feels less than qualified or who is needing the extra help. As a homeschool parent of 20 years I have done very little actual 'teaching'. Yes, it's intensive in the early years when teaching them to read and doing Math. But really once they learn to read, the parent is there to guide them.

It sounds like you have a fantastic handle on homeschooling! I wish homeschooling were more common here in the UK. As far as I know it's very difficult to do and can get you in legal trouble. The way schools are going here - a combination of teachers being just there for riot control and/or to spout woke rubbish that's not factual - homeschooling is a far better option, I think.

It's interesting to hear that you've reverted to Catholicism. I wonder if you ever read through Galatians or Romans. Paul discusses the work based religion of Judaism (under the mosaic law) and how that is not the way to be saved. This can be related to Catholicism and many other works based religions. Ephesians 2:8-9 strictly states that we are saved by Grace Alone and Faith Alone and NOT by works. I pray that God provides you with discernment and wisdom. God Bless you and your family =).
@HopewellHeights
@HopewellHeights 7 ай бұрын
The only time the phrase “faith alone” appears in the Bible is in the book of James 😊 Catholicism does indeed teach that we are saved by grace and faith unto the good works the He has prepared for us, and that faith without works is dead. So while works don’t earn salvation, they are necessary to claim true faith 🙏🏼
