I just got out of a SLT Canyon for a RTL-E. I agree on the tailgate, but man the reliability is what got me. It drives like a car, but has the functionality of a truck. Best truck for my family

@@belleaire574 I think you just gotta figure out what's best for you. The Silverado is going to have more power and towing capacity, but is also going to suck down some gas. I don't haul a lot and really just need a bed for my Kayaks and Lowes Trips. I prefer the comfort and reliability of a Honda. So for my family and MY needs, I ridgeline is a better truck than the Silverado.

I replaced my 2017 black edition with a 2022 touring. Love the Ridgeline. I added a Shiftpowerthrottle remaper to fix the terrible throttle input on the '22 Also I installed an upgraded rear sway bar to improve handling. Truck is now perfect. Your power inverter is 150w while driving and 400w while parked with engine running. You can disable auto start/stop by using the inverter while driving. The auto highbeem was MUCH better on the 2017. You can also turn off adaptive cruise while driiving by holding the distance adjustment on the steering wheel. This reverts the cruise into the traditional non-adaptive.

@@GlennC789 the throttle has an artificial dead spot delay. I assume it was done for fuel economy but it’s really annoying. It didn’t exist in my 2017. To be honest I think the 17-20 was also better looking with a more cohesive design. The latest more macho design isn’t very attractive but I guess Honda did that for sales.

I like that the Ridgeline 3.5-liter V-6 which is more likely to last over $250,000 compared to the Chevy Colorado which only offers 4-cylinder engines in their 2023 model. I have a 2019 RTL-E. I'm surprised you still have to plug the phone in for CarPlay; and yeah, the onboard info-tainment/navigation is crap, because of the nanny-controls... at least you don't have to put the truck in Park to change the radio-station. But, for long trips it's really helpful to have my spouse navigate, and you can't do it without CarPlay. My truck didn't have a lock on the tailgate... had to install one. After the lock was installed, the swing-out gate release broke... cable slipped, shortly after that top-down release failed... 3k mi. past warranty (36k mi.). And, recently there's a weird, low buzzing sound at 1600-1800 RPMs, and every tech or mechanic I've talked to spins a different yarn what the cause is. Oddly enough, mine actually has a tow-mode, a button on the shifter... but no tiptronic shifter. And you're right, 5k seems like an ample tow-rating... until you tow something, and with these Honda transmissions, there's no margin for error; they made the best manuals, and some of the worst automatics, especially for V6s. To be honest, I was never confident about hauling anything more than 3.5k in mine, which is kinda pitiful considering years ago I towed a Yaris... full of crap... with a 2006 Nissan Frontier 4 cyl. stick, from Indiana to Nevada, up the Rockies, down the Rockies... that was fun. And that button-shifter... that looks like a big dealership-bill waiting to happen. We leased a Clarity which had that... right next to the cup-holders. I had to use something like a baby sippy-cup lol. I have a love/hate relationship with mine, handles and drives like a dream, incredibly comfortable for long distance driving... but good grief. Mine also has that outlet in the back... but it's a TWO-PRONG... I have no tool in my pickup which is a two-prong ;( I think your making the right call there, go ahead and get rid of it. They have a good resale value... for some reason. Good review!
@TravelingMurse
@TravelingMurse 11 ай бұрын
Thank you for the comment! It sounds like in recent years they’ve made some good improvements but taken away some things they shouldn’t have? I don’t understand why they would take away the tow mode! And I completely agree about the button shifter, I’m guessing that along with some of the other chintzy stuff in the cab won’t last near as long as the engine. I’m still trying to decide if I should keep it, might be buying a camper to travel in so the Ridgeline would be out for sure then

@@TravelingMurse love your walk-through! I've had my eyes on a Ridgeline for years... after hearing your comments on the tonneau... didn't get a good look at which type you have... which type do you have installed? I am seeing different types listed online. And for the bed speakers... the option is either or, not both?
@TrilithiumBanditKelsey
@TrilithiumBanditKelsey 7 ай бұрын
I have one, it's OEM. It leaks a little... but most of the water comes from gaps in the bed itself... which shouldn't be there. In a heavy shower, driving interstate, a lot of water gets in.
@TravelingMurse
@TravelingMurse 7 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment! To be honest I don't know what brand my tonneau cover is, I just looked all over the cover and cant find a brand or logo....that's never a good sign! If I could go back again I would get one of the hard covers that have the tie down hooks and you're able to strap stuff on top of it. I also travel a lot for work bringing everything I own with me, so I am sure not everybody would need/prefer that style. and as for the bed speakers, You have to get the RTL-E or Black edition to get the speakers. So if you did not want them you could get the sport or RTL. Thanks!
@TrilithiumBanditKelsey
@TrilithiumBanditKelsey 7 ай бұрын
It's really hard to find aftermarket accessories for this truck; I don't think there's much of a market for it. I wanted an Undercover one-piece cover, like we had on the Tundra, very solid, very sturdy, waterproof and locked separately from the gate... didn't have to unlock and open the gate to open the cover. But, I'm not sure any of the aftermarket covers work with this bed... the two major problems being: 1. The way most of these covers are mounted, it prevents the trunk from opening all the way; the trunk catches on the rod-mount which holds the cover up when open. 2. Because the bed of the truck is joined with the cab, there isn't a gap there which allows these covers to hinge correctly when opened, such that the cover has to be mounted back farther, leaving a gap in the front, and a substantial overhang in the back. So, the only two options are a roll-top, in which you lose about one foot of bed utility height-wise, or a folding cover which tend to leak and are not very secure; hardly anyone uses these folding covers anymore. The Honda cover is garbage, flimsy plastic spring-latches (which is probably why an extra pair is provided) and leaks at the folds... Honda actually puts a disclaimer out for it that it's not water-resistant... at all, which kind of makes you wonder how low the bar is for anything else they produce.

You keep referring and comparing the Ridgeline to a 1/2 ton F-150 or Silverado, wrong class, choose the Colorado to compare. Same with towing, of course it can't be compared to a half ton, would you compare it to a Tacoma or the Titan, apples/oranges.

Not sure why Honda is so conservative with the RL updates. I'm surprised that there is no information on the 2024 as of yet esp given the off road success of the Pilot Trail Sport. Just take the same upgrades with the engine, transmission, AWD and interior and watch this be the most in demand vehicle in it's class.

A timing belt in 2023. WTF. The tacoma has rear vents they just come out under the seats. I got 23 mpg on the interstate to going 70-75mph. The 6 speed automatic and 3.5l are bulletproof at this point.

@@stevesafety6743 You could say the same thing about the ridgeline. Towing is abyssmal and overheats the transmission, overheats offroad, small payload, and tiny bed. Tow package on tacoma adds engine oil cooler, transmission cooler, and sway control. The cab is narrow to add ground clearance.

I love how people say that it is great to have the spare in the compartment under the bed. Only people who drive this thing like an SUV would consider that to be a positive feature. If you have something in your truck bed (say a load of rocks, or firewood, or a fridge etc...) how in heavens name do you get to your spare should you get a flat?! @@TravelingMurse so... if you aren't getting a camper, you are sticking to Ridgeline... with so many references to Tacoma... why didn't you just get a Tacoma to begin with? What are your pros and cons with Ridgeline vs Tacoma?
@TravelingMurse
@TravelingMurse 7 ай бұрын
Honestly, the biggest reason I didn't get a Tacoma is because my brother had one and he had some problems with it (one with poor timing that ruined an ice fishing trip so I hold a grudge). There are a lot of pros of the Tacoma, such as there being many many more aftermarket options compared to the ridgeline and higher ground clearance right out of the factory. I am trying to find a roof rack I like for the ridgeline but it's nearly impossible but they are all over for the Tacoma. Overall I do like the look of the ridgeline over the Tacoma, and I was impressed with the smooth ride in the ridgeline. I am also a sucker for the little things, I love my in bed compartment and in bed audio system. Thank you for your comment!
