I often get the question: If you could have only 1-bike? As of today if I could only have 1-bike it would be a 2023 KTM 300XC (or Husqvarna TX300). The all new 300 TBI engine with electronic power valve and throttle body fuel injections sets the bar for big power and strong linear partial throttle response. With a white map (smoother power) and green map (quicker RPM build and more power up top) it is easy to change the character of the engine with the push of a button. This engine is fast and fun to ride with almost no vibration. It runs clean with Motorex 2-stroke oil mixed at 60:1 and premium pump gas.
The chassis is a great combination of cornering and stability at speed with excellent ergos and the usual strong Brembo brakes. The stock AER forks work well especially after about 4~5 hours and if you take the time to dial in fork pressure and clicker settings for different conditions. and rider weights. I installed my favorite set of WP Cone Valve spring forks I have used on previous KTM/Husky 300's. I still prefer the feel of spring forks. The stock rear shock takes about 4~6 hours to break in and works well. I run clickers in the 18~20 range with HSC about 2.5 out. The stock 4.2 spring is a little soft for my 6'2" 190lb body and I have a 4.5 spring to install but the bike has been work so well I have little motivation to change it.
Now I need to run this 23 300XC back to back with my 2023 Beta 300 Race Edition and see if the Beta can become the new "I I could only have 1-bike" winner....stay tuned!
Here is my 2023 KTM "Does it All" review from last fall....

I say this every time but I am so jealous that you get a track like that all to yourself anytime you wish, no traffic at all, no one to bother you, no one in your way, just do what you want, practice turns, practice jumping, starts etc. I would be in heaven!!! Great video!

You had 23 300 XCW but prefer 23 300 XC? Could you please elaborate on why please?
@mxengineer1
@mxengineer1 Жыл бұрын
@@tonn333 I actually had a 21 KTM 300XCW Erzberg (which is essentially the same as a 23 KTM 300XCW). I like how clean the 300XCW runs with TPI and oil injection as the TBI engine runs a bit richer. I prefer the stronger low to mid power and partial throttle torque response of the new 300 TBI engine over the TPI engine and because I enjoy strong linear torque I give the slightest edge to the TBI engine. Now when the 2024 KTM 300XCW is announced hopefully it comes with TBI and oil injection!
@mxengineer1

@@tonn333 I don't think one bike is "better" - just different characteristics. The TPI engine (with oil injection) runs super clean with a quick revving smooth power build and a bit of a burst feel in the mid to upper mid range. The TBI engine makes a lot of power (MXA shows 55 hp at the rear wheel in their '23 300SX test) with an electronic power valve that can be positioned based on many inputs vs a simple mechanical one which is opened or closed. This new 300 TBI engine makes an impressive amount of partial throttle linear torque - sets a new bar for 2-stroke engines. The 300 TBI engine is very responsive and runs strong - perhaps too responsive for some riders. I see the new '24 KTM 300 XCW TBI engine (with oil injection) is rated at 49HP according to KTM while the 300 TBI SX/XC engine was rated at 58HP so perhaps the new 300XCW is closer in power to the previous 300 TPI engine. Chassis wise PDS vs Linkage....that is a known big dfference!

Great video! I couldn't agree more I rode a 250 xc at demo days and loved it but then hoped on the 300 was blown away it allowed me to shift less and still comes on power strong and fast when lugging. I raced it for the first time last week and it was hands down the best bike I've ever been on. What a big difference from my 2019 300xc

Is the new one really that much better? I'm curious because I also own a 2019 300xc that as of now is the best dirt bike I've ever ridden. I sat on a '23 300xc today and it does feels smaller and more rigid than my '19, but I can't imagine the new tbi engine being that much more powerful or smooth than say a dialed in smartcarb or lectron setup on a '19. Plus it's nice having a kick start backup.

I still regularly bum rides on my buddy Greg's 2017 300XC that has a Keihin carb - that bike is fun and fast! TBI is very similar to carb with a bit quicker and more linear response and lots of power everywhere.

This all new Austian 300 TBI engine really sets the bar for power and linear torque. MXA says 55hp(!!) at the rear wheel in their test on the '23 300SX...that is a LOT of power!! The rideability of this 55 hp engine is really good and the green map just keeps on pulling. Very fun engine that should only get better as KTM continues to develop it. Wonder how the 2024 KTM 300 XCW with TBI and perhaps oil injection will run?

yours seems to run a bit cleaner than my 300 XC, the cone valve forks seem to track really well in the few chattery stutter bumps in a few spots on the mx track too! Those off camber turns does your KR 350 track a little bit better and not slide to the low side of the corner as much? great video, thanks for sharing it! Looking forward to the battle of the 300's Beta Vs Ktm!

Those WP Cone Valve spring forks have worked well on my pervious 300's and are impressive in the woods with a supple friction free feel at the top of the stroke and very good bottoming resistance (though not as good of bottoming resistance as the stock '23 300XC AER forks). The '23 300XC stock MX33 front tire is not my favorite "does it all" front tire (MX3S is better). This is a fun "does it all loop" and I will get some other bikes on it for more back to back rides soon.

So do you like it better than your beta 300 race edition, and why? I’ve had all the beta two strokes this year but really looking hard at the 24 300xc.
@mxengineer1
@mxengineer1 Жыл бұрын
They both great bikes. The new 300 TBI engines set the bar for big power and partial throttle linear torque. However they can be a bit too responsive for some riders (especially in the woods). I see the new '23 KTM 300XCW has about 8 hp less than the 300XC so perhaps KTM has tamed the engine a little. The Beta 300 Race Edition has a gem of an engine. Beta knows how to make 2-stroke run smooth and clean with good power that is tunable (with the power valve setting and a map switch) and jetting that simply works over a wide range of temperatures. The stock KYB suspension has a great off road setting that help make the precise steering feel even better. I can't pick one over the other at this point - just different. Hight tech and big power - KTM/Husky 300 TBI. Classic simple 2-stroke with broad smooth power Beta.

The '23 YZ450 with a dialed back engine character is a very good overall bike. "If I could only have 1-bike" needs a wide ratio transmission so perhaps the '23 Yamaha YZ450FX (which should get the 23 YZ450 updates) could be in the running. Hard to beat a 300 2-stroke in the woods on tight trails. My 2021 KTM 350 Kailub Russell Edition is a close 2nd for my "1-bike" choice...or maybe the '23 Beta 300 Race Edition...need some more back to back rides ! 😎

You are talking both ends of the power spectrum! Some riders prefer the super lightweight feel of a 125XC and the gear/RPM/throttle/clutch focus it requires to keep the engine making power and go fast. Others like the broader usable RPM power range of the 300 which makes riding more effortless but you feel more weight and inertia. Which do you prefer in your off road bikes? While I do not have specific sales numbers talking to my dealer friends that sell KTM's the 300XC/XCW is one of the most popular models year after year.

@@mxengineer1 this is my biggest problem atm lol since riding the 110 in the woods I had so much fun it’s got suspension the works - ecu tune it’s a beast muffler pipe ….. I rode my buddys 22 gas gas 125 that was fun as in the woods to … my other mate has a cr125 07 and how much fun do you wanna have really ! so I’m now thinking…. Different again lol have to be patient…. Don’t really need to spend heaps on. brand new 450 for what I need …… true ? in the woods wayyy to much 450 power I’ll only need it to wheelie and hitting jumps ……. Which that’s what I prefer to do So now I’m thinking get a kx 450 21-22 model and getting just a bike for the woods either older 125 2 stroke or old bush bike xr200 or crf250 that’s plenty of power and won’t give me hectic arm pump and will be so much fun because you can ride them faster not let the bike ride you ! Reckon that would be a good idea or do you have a better idea haha. I thought about a 300 2 stroke because I gues that does it all …. Its Just the power band and hitting big jumps I could never get comfy felt off and wheeling can go until revs runs out …. it’s a trickier on the 2 banger gotta be the back break wizard but that could just mean just practice and don’t be a pussy

@@adamrochester1 All bikes can be fun...110's, 125's, 250's, 300's, 450's! 300 smoker is capable of doing everything and also can be a bit trickier to ride in some stuff (like high level moto tracks) and easier to ride in the tight stuff (woods/trails). The KX450 works great for moto and if you can find a low cost woods bike that could be a great combination....or buy the KX450 and bum rides on your friends 125 smokers when you want to ride woods!
