As a 45 yo woman, I just want something affordable to get me around Sydney. Mainly to and from work. I have a nearly 20 yo Toyota corolla, but a new one in 10k more and it's just to put of budget. I just hope the 7 year warranty covers what needs to be replaced when faulty.

Here in Thailand we only got the 1.5 NA cvt. Mine is over 2 years old with 73k kilometers and got a stage 1 tune because of the lack of power, the standard engine does makes 114 ps but on the dyno it's making only 79 ps at the wheel duo to drivetrain loss, right now with the tune it has 107 wheel ps (142 ps engine). I use it every day in heavy traffic and to be honest it's not really economical compared to it's rivals ,but its still a nice little car with no major problems🙂

If I could spec a car to my liking. Think 1960's. Suspension and brake upgrade. That will do. Today's cars have everything you don't want, or need. All look the same. Designed by the same drag coefficient computer. Weigh a ton because of all the extra crap. And have taken away any driver input or experience. We are getting closer to autonomous vehicles. Only one more stage to fully autonomous. What is the point. Take the bus. Driving used to be more than just transport. It was an integrated experience between man and machine. It evolved as you learnt the quirks and limits. Now the cars tell you what to do, and take over. They tell you what to do. Won't let you do what you want. Ridiculous. Add to this the draconian road rules and legislation. Implemented by over zealous robots in uniform. In a bid to generate enough funding to cover their existence. Driving is no longer a pleasurable experience. Whatever you drive.

Wow. Pretty true...although if you search for a manual (and can find one) you might find some pleasure. Even the new Mazda3 and Golf now have no manuals in any spec. Manuals will very soon become something quant; like a pianola.

For the majority of people, driving is absolutely just transport and not for enjoyment. Australia has extremely car-focused urban design, it’s a necessity for most people to drive.
@comicnerd1186
@comicnerd1186 4 ай бұрын
A person who prefers silence and avoids being in a crowded place would never take public transport if he has his own vehicle. So even if that person has his own autonomous vehicle, he would still take that instead of public transport. Plus, you have to spend money everytime you take public transport, but not everyone wants to do that. And if you think that you have to do whatever your car tells you to do, then you are badly mistaken. It just helps you by giving warnings and suggestions, but you can still do whatever you want. Your car cannot stop you from doing anything. And even today, only a handful of cars are fully autonomous, and they are very expensive. Most of the cars today are still driver dependent, just with extra features.

I had one of these as a hire car for a week in Cairns, and yes your conclusions were the same as mine. It’s just a car, and a cheap one at that. There’s nothing enjoyable about it, other than it gets you from a to b. I found the touch screen for the heater/aircon hard to use, and the MG mascot with the racing helmet was pretty funny considering how slow the car is 😂 The MG badge seems really out of place, considering that MG back in the 60s was a more premium brand than Morris or Austin.

Thank you again Brett. Really liked your review. I had wondered what it was like as I Iove my sedans. While I appreciate knowing that in your view the i30 is the best all round sedan (and there aren't many to choose from any more), unless it is in N form, I just can't handle the styling. Way way way too busy for my preference. Looking forward to the next one.

For the price and value for money is definitely worth considering! But I would questioned their claim on fuel usage and actually get an accurate reading. I think it does drink allot more than they claim and MG should be truthful or they could tarnish their reputation like some other car manufacturer for lying. Great review mate as always and thank you for being honest and not too judgemental with this car!

Ough, how did we get to 2024 without blind spot monitoring and lane keep assist ? Really for what they are wirth they arnt a deal breaker. The performance test should really be limited to the essence model to draw any conclusion. Perhaps, therefore, a bit of a poor bias review.comments like the vibe " could be more refined than the essence" really mate - you havnt driven the DCT essence but make this comment ??? I dont think your review holds any merit if you havnt realistically driven both to compare a well known dct vs cvt and the benifits of the dct.
@drivingenthusiastaustralia
@drivingenthusiastaustralia 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The review is for this variant. I don't think the refinement, performance, or quality is up to the segment standards, in my opinion. I have driven all rivals extensively and this is the conclusion that I draw. That's ok if you don't like/agree with my opinion. But my opinion still stands.

I'm confounded how we're able to accept such a compromise which is detrimental to more expensive but superior quality cars!? I've hired this car while in Australia but your analogy about just a car is right on the button but this will drag down legitimate good car manufacturers which I believe is a travesty. Acoustically the interior is affected by the hard plastics. I feel that is a compounding issue along with other cost cutting factors that this car is compromised by all adding to a tinny drive. However I did manage better mileage but still nothing to write home about.

Airbags are good but don't necessarily make it safe. Structural integrity? Not tested...Why not? Chinese manufacturers are very good at producing items that look good, and are superficially capable, but which are not durable or have substantial deficiencies hidden underneath the pretty exterior.

This MG5 is $24990 Drive Away no more to pay. An i30 is $29.990 (EOF Special) PLUS ON ROAD, OR, $32,995 Drive Away. Corolla is also $10,000 more expensive, KIA Cerato is $28.790 plus onroad equals $31,995 almost $10,000 more. You make no sense and have to compare apples to apples, you already said a 2nd hand BMW and I would also like a Mecedes SLC Turbo for around the same price as MG but that would be 10 years old?? We are talking NEW MG? vs something similar and a Picanto cant be compared, maybe a Motor Bike? Suzuki Swift = $15,000 more and Vitara $14,000 morer than MG5.Can you redo that part of the Video and try again? All these OTHER cars I compared MG5 to are much more expensive. Price Point is what we are looking for and ON THE ROAD PRICE POINT DRIVE AWAY, $24,990 impossible to beat for a similar equiipped and handsomly styled Car with a MG Badge that resonated with older generations as a Quality Sports Car.

I would suggest saving a little bit more money and getting one of the far-superior alternatives. It might only be $24,990, but so what? The item you're left with isn't very good. You might as well compare it to a used car, in my opinion.

Interestingly, MG never claimed their cars are now made in China. Dealers mislead people to think they are British cars. Very ridiculous right? Everyone trying to promote MG5 should feel sorry for it's ANCAP zero star. If someone really wants a sedan why not buying a used Camry or Mazda2/3? Even a brand new Mazda2 Sedan is just ~10% more expensive than this garbage.

Really very average, definitely a case of getting what you pay for and what seems cheap up front could easily cost more in the long run because the resale on that will be dreadful and I certainly wouldn't want to own one out of warranty. And that's before you consider that you're buying a car that was literally built by the Chinese Government which is pretty irresponsible. Would definitely get an i30 or Cerato over that.
