2023 NHL Mock Draft - TOP 10 Post Lottery

This is my first take at a mock draft after the NHL Draft Lottery. Was the lottery rigged for the Blackhawks?
Obviously, this will help the Chicago Blackhawks sell more season tickets but I think it's a bad result for Connor Bedard. Let me know what you guys think down below.

@@HockeyCircle you would think it’s a no brainer that they should just take Smith, Carlsson or Michkov. Whichever one of them is still there.

@@SURVIVORkid23 smith fits better into their timeline as the habs aren’t in year one of the rebuild so it’s not worth waiting and I doubt Leo Carlsson slips to fifth but if he does then he would be a stud for Montreal

@@melonfearless4775 I disagree, their timeline is 2-3 years to start competing. They have a lot of great pieces already but those pieces still have a little while to develop. We still have to find a starting goalie, we need a stud right handed defenceman. Having a superstar forward who could just jump to a team that is already ready to compete would only put us over the edge. Imagine a top 6 of: Caufield - Suzuki - Michkov Slafkovsky - Dubois - Dach That’s a Stanley cup contending top 6

he says he will be at draft night so if he can make it to draft night in the U.S. he might as well just stay. Malkin had to defect to finally get his chance, why not michkov do the same?

True, you just never know what could happen but I believe a guy of his talent would want to play in the NHL shortly

hes stated multiple times that he wants to play in the NHL against the best players, he will come over and may even break his contract too

Great top 10 list. As a Canucks fan, I'm hoping some teams reach (Montreal, Arizona, Philly) leaving some of these guys (Moore or Leonard maybe) available at 11th. Not sure who the Canucks might target if all those guys are gone. Maybe Barlow or Yager.

Thanks, and yeah I agree after the top 5 we could see a team reach for a guy they really like so I think there is a chance for Moore or Leonard to be there at 11

We have 42 million in cap space this off season, we got the best prospect and still have all of our insurance picks that Davidson acquired incase we didn't get Bedard. We can take contract that are 1 or 2 year deals from teams that need to shed cap space, I see no issue weaponizing our cap to get decent players to play with Bedard

@Hockey Circle considering Blackhawks have all the leverage in the boeser deal I would definitely take a chance at him but Cancuks would need to add sweetners if we are taking his 6mil contract off their hands. We got Jason Dickinson and a 2nd round pick for around 1.2mil cap relief, taking 6mil would be a 1st round pick no doubt. But Boeser does need a change and a new team to revive his scoring ability.

Totally agree all so was hoping Anaheim would get it well I was really hoping for a Edmonton kind of mercal and my Habs get Bedard but didn't think that was going to happen lol

Michkov latest rankings is at 175lbs too, not 148. Big difference

I think Grier has a long leash his ass isn’t on the hot seat, I think he can afford to take Michkov and wait it out while Sharks tank the next few years and get some more elite draft picks

You have a pretty good board, but the only way the coyotes are taking a forward at 6 is if Michkov is available and even then, who knows. They already have Cooley, Guenther, and Geekie in the cupboard to compliment the likes of Keller, Schmaltz, Crouse, and Maccelli. I definitely see GMBA going off the board and taking the best BDA as opposed to the BPA simply to fill their needs kinda like what Detroit did with Seider. Valimaki and Moser are good, but not top pair. The need a blue chip D prospect in the worst way.

That makes sense yeah just such a talented forward group and they have #12 as well where I think you wait there for a d-man. You're 100% right on the organization need tho

Michkov is too small. To many small players for the habs. They need will Smith or Leo karlson. Michkov would be better with a team like Columbus or San Jose

He is small but does have 3 years to bulk before coming to the NHL. But yeah Carlsson and Smith are very good prospects as well.

Yeah interesting to see where it goes over the next 3-4 years. You think they trade for help soon or sign any FA's?

@@HockeyCircle as a Hawks fan, I wouldnt trade any picks the next two years (they have 9 or 10 picks in the first two rounds the next two years) and Id resign Max Domi if he wants. They should get a top 10 pick again next year and a top 15 one the year after that. The last year of Bedards rookie deal is when they can make a run at the playoffs and they should think about adding one big UFA in the offseason before that year.

This is a good top 5 but Will Smith is so good, I doubt he doesn't make it in the top 5

Since Chicago intentionally wasted an entire year to get Beddard, they should be penalized for a year for Beddard not to play for the Blackhawks or get him traded to somewhere else before the next season. That should actually be a League policy change for at least the top 3 draft picks if the team's management intentionally tank the season for the top draft pick.

You do realize that the Hawks will finish last again if they don’t have Bedard next year🤦🏻‍♂️ No one will want to play there if he’s not around, means you will be complaining again next year when they win the lottery. C’mon man!!!!!!

@@jogendron6320 Which means a failure in procedure&equitable policy for the draft process. Should there have been a better lottery process to make it more complicated for teams rigging their losses. With all the hype for Beddard, it should had been a special case just like he was given a special case status for playing in NCAA/AHL.
