Back in 1994, I was an “evangelist” for Apple. I was the only one who had an Apple computer out of everyone I knew. It felt so good to “Think Different” Of curse, that feeling is gone today… Niner has given me that “feeling” back. First with my Air 9 and now with my RIP 9. My trails are filled with Specialized (1994 Compaq PC) Santa Cruz (1994 Hewlett-Packard) Giant (1994 Gateway) And here I come with my RIP 9 RDO (1994 McIntosh Performa) feeling is back!

One of the last bikes remaining with the curvy lines, actually looks unique now that everyone went to straight lines

Good choice with the geometry. I prefer agile bikes too. The trendy longer, lower, slacker bikes have really gotten out of hand.

no that haven’t, the are just built for more challenging terrain, and some are built for less challenging terrain

@@masonjohnson5583 Yeah, it is. It's just trendy. Even commencal is making their new models less slack, and they are a gravity oriented company.

So true. Are we forgetting that some are still riding uphill, not only downhill. 66 degrees for the front, that's the sweet spot

Couldn't agree more with 140/150. It's aggressive vs 160mm front fork. Most brands have gone full-butter mode rather than Race-Day Only. Riding a Yeti SB 130 Turq setup as a 140/150. I use 100mm of travel in "Smallsville back country trails," but out in "Smashville," it's so well balanced! Leaves nothing left but an RDO Stoke. Truly focused. Thanks for sharing your excitement about this sweet new bike! Looking forward to seeing where it takes you!

Sheeesh what a nice bike! I really miss trail riding after the rear swing arm snapped on my Schwinn S29 (that I built very well); I hit a huge pothole. Needless to say the incident has gotten me very depressed, but a few people have offered me their frames from older bikes, one of which has a repainted s29 frame without any decals and devoid of a kickstand mount (LOL). Trail riding is like therapy to me and I hope to get back to it this year before the snow falls and/or it gets too cold. Next bike I'm saving up for will hopefully be a Canyon Spectral or a Neuron, or maybe...an RKT 9 RDO (the previous Niner you reviewed). Love your videos, Clint! Keep up the good work.

I really like the geometry on this bike not too extreme. Jenson has this bike for 3099.00! Fox factory 36 but SX stuff on it though.

Wear out the drive train and upgrade it. Buy new brakes ASAP. Then it’s a keeper. Bought mine (level 2) last month thru Jenson. Putting new XT brakes on it next weekend. The brakes that came with it don’t have the touch I am accustomed to. Definitely need upgraded. Tires were surprisingly very effective. Best description: It’s a hover bike. Climbs well, descends great, and hovers thru the roller coaster flow trails. Very happy with my RIP9 RDO. Pretty good sale price helps. The shocks are awesome!

I will never be able to comprehend how Niner's STA's look insanely slack but are very reasonable and mondern. Enjoy it buddy!

Yeah, it’s just the way they curve forward and then back. Very deceptive looking but I really like the STA.

@@ClintGibbs I'm also looking at the Smuggler but the frame weight is a nonstarter for a 140/130 bike. Need something to bridge my Blur TR and HD6. Maybe the Rascal, who knows.

Quick question, I replaced my SRAM brakes for Shimano on my RIP 9 RDO; what is the torque setting for the screws that hold the rear brake assembly to the frame? I’m scare of going too tight because it is a carbon frame. Thanks!

I think that the ideal geometry for an all-around Trailbike is 65* HTA, 77* STA, ~1240mm wheelbase size-large. To me, that is the Trailbike sweet spot between XC and Enduro. Much shorter than that and the bike loses it's descending capability. Much longer than that and the bike loses it's capability on the flats and in the tight and twisty. The 77* STA improves climbing ability while the 65* HTA is slack enough for good descending but not so slack that the bike gets overly long or feels floppy at the front. Now, if someone would make a 120/120mm travel XC/DC bike with that geometry, I would want to buy it. I think that even short travel DC/Trail bikes should come with this geo.

Per usual… gret first look Clint. Question for you. I currently have a mix match of Shimano on my drive train and am wanting to upgrade. Currently have XT rear derailure, SLX shifter and cassette, but pretty basics shimano breaks and cranks. Wanting to go XT breaks for sure, but in your opinion, would you still upgrade to XT shifter from SLX, or wait? I have already upgraded my previous fork (rockshox reba) to now a SID SL Select+ which has been night and day difference. Looking to gain upgrades for cross country performance. Trying to decide if I should tackle the drive train first or maybe save a bit and get carbon wheels? Thanks for your thoughts, they are always greatly appreciated 😊

What are you using for a chainstay protector? It looks like a road bike innertube.

Yup, that’s how I roll. It’s the best way to protect the carbon chain stay from chain slap. When I buy bikes to review I typically only hold them for 6 to 12 months. When I unwrap that bad boy the chain stay looks brand new for the next buyer.
