@John & Whitney Kokalis congrats on the new truck. I would love to have the new colorado bison, but it can't tow what I need. I have a 22 sierra 3500 at4 and love it, but that bison looks mean. And I agree, driving the same thing that long would be boring, but I'm hardly one to talk...I buy a new truck every few years, so far I've had at least 1 of every body style gm truck since the 80's.

@blueovalfan23

who's running the same vehicle for the entirety of that 300K? when you buy at higher mileage, you're buying someone else's problems. i know, i have one in the driveway right now. i also traded in a malibu that i bought, fixed and opted to trade in because of blow by and the trans got hot on me once. wouldn't fixing all that. it was patched up, with fresh trans fluid, driven a couple weeks and traded in once i made a decision. where that thing ends up, someone will have trouble eventually. it ran and drove perfectly at the time. had 180 on it, and it was treated ROUGH prior to my ownership. do you think any vehicle is immune to neglect and/or abuse? all the higher mile vehicles have seen it at some point. my thinking is they're had 8 years to fix that 8speed transmission. they've been working that 4 cylinder in full sizes for a few years now. i don't think it'll be all that bad. in addition, the "plus" and "high output" engines have some extras to improve their lifespan. they're not the same as the base 2.7. yes, i bought one, i'm bias but i would encourage you to look it up. there's a interesting interview with the lead engineer on that engine on here.

@@jimmycline4778 unfortunately I don’t think your Colorado is going to make it to 200,000 miles before you have major engine or other problems. The Nissan might look antiquated on the inside, but that engine and transmission is solid, plus my Nissan came with a 200,000 mile power train warranty from AV Nissan. I don’t think you have that type of warranty on your Colorado. Good luck, I hope your truck is as good as GM says it is, if not buy a Nissan the next time.

The Chevy wins in terms of torque, towing, and payload. The Pro4X’s payload is a deal breaker for me in terms of what I need. The Chevy wins in terms of more technology and modern feel. Love both trucks other than the Pro4Xs payload. Reliability is paramount for me. Concerned about the Colorado in terms of reliability. Not every truck buyer wants a truck with too much high technology in the dash. That is just extra expenses when something goes bad and you have to spend more money in repair bills. Some folks just like basic interior features like cloth seats and less leather on the dash and side door panels, They buy trucks to go use for off roading and to be used as a work truck instead of just using their truck as a daily commuter to office building or used for transporting kids back and forth to sporting events.

Not sure how i like that they put a turbo in the Colorado. Turbos are nice at first, but once issues start to go down with them they become significantly more costly to repair than something that's naturally aspirated, not to mention the turbo lag. I have a 2015 escape with the 2.0l turbo with 135k miles and it does put out some power, but over time you do notice the turbo lag and it sucks. Already had to replace a wastegate solenoid for it cuz it was throwing a code, so who knows what I'll have to replace next on it.

That’s pretty stupid, if you actually drive both it wouldn’t be any contest. The torque of that V6 is pathetic and really annoying to drive, it doesn’t feel like it has any grunt or can get out of its ways until it’s wound up over 3500 rpm. The V6 sucks and is what I dislike most about this truck. Getting a new GMC Canyon Denali and not looking back. Something no one ever talks about is the fact that for years now, Nissan refuses to offer a limited slip rear differential in either the Frontier or Titan. Forgoing the tradition most trucks stick to in that regard, and offering a gimmicky yet somewhat effective brake system that applies the brake to the tire with no traction to make the opposite side attempt to “bite” the terrain surface for grip…. It works ok but feels very different. I’d rather just have the traditional LSD rear end… that’s why I’m buying the Colorado. Shame, I really like the styling of the Frontier and all the other old school features.

If you put a lift and possibly larger tires, you are adding thousands to the price and the two trucks are no longer comparable in price. I was pretty high on the Nissan until I drove it, then realized I would not be happy with it unless I dropped $10K on a lift and wheels/tires. As it stands now, getting in/out of the Frontier feels like getting in/out of a car. Its just too low. Cheers and good luck shopping for a new truck.

Thanks for these comparisons Ben. I have 2 questions...does GM not offer Homelink on these trucks? And is the GPS based on a subscription to On-Star? I know most people these days use their phones for maps, but I prefer a true GPS because I have been to remote areas where cell phones lose coverage and needed a true GPS. If you have any information I'd appreciate it. And thanks again for all of your content. All of the various comparisons throughout all of these vehicle segments is truly helpful.

If using google maps, download the maps for the areas you will be driving in and no need for cell service. Google maps will jump to the saved maps. Best to google it. Having lived in UT and doing a lot of traveling in states like WY, Northern ID and MT, you learn it is like the wild west in many parts, no cell coverage, So I learned to download the maps needed. As for my GMC Sierra I had, you did not have to use Onstar. The internal mapping system worked with or without cell coverage. Problem was GM wanted about 100 per year to update them via a USB or DVD. I always held off for two-years before updating. The actual GMC vehicle did NOT use google maps, but you could connect via a USB cord, an Android phone to the GMC info system and the google maps displayed on the GM info screen. Worked great. (Apple worked too, I guess.)

I prefer the design of the Nissan because it has a classic truck look. I also think the Nissan interior is better because the door panels have a more practical and comfortable look. The door panels on the Colorado look like they are over-designed like the second generation Colorado. On the Nissan, I like the thick padded armrest and the way the panel smoothly flows upward towards the dash. The grab handles on the center console are a great use of space. My biggest problem with car manufacturers is that they mount the air vents too low to defrost the side windows in the winter. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Nissan has large vents mounted high on the dash. In a sports car, style is more important than comfort, but in a truck, I prefer a practical design that is more user-friendly, like the Nissan.

@J May There is nothing new, innovative, or great about the 2023 Canyon/ Colorado. Digital gauges were popular with car and truck customizers years ago, and then the "fad" died out, and people went back to analog gauges. Analog gauges are more user-friendly because you don't have to read numbers on a bumpy road, just look where the needle is pointing. Putting a 4 cylinder engine in a truck that is expected to pull a heavy trailer up a steep hill is stupid. LHT Performance put a V8 from a 2020 Silverado into his 2020 Colorado, and it got better gas mileage because the motor didn't have to work very hard. These modern high tech trucks are designed to be high maintenance. All the sensors and computers guarantee that you will take it to the dealership so GM gets a steady stream of money coming in because you can't take it to your local mechanic if it requires special equipment to diagnose the problem.

@Aeryn Lovell you can change the digital Guage to show an analog style if you want. But the logic that reading a digital Guage is less convenient I'd a joke. Reading a Guage with a dial just creates 1 extra step for your brain. The fact that you are comfortable with something doesn't make it more efficient or practical. Gm uses the 2.7 4 cylinder in the 1500's and its tow capacity is more than the 5.3l V8 in the 1500s. And better than all the v8's. The colorados have more efficiency than the 1500 half tons that beat the v8, so I don't know where you are getting your misinformation from, but it's laughable that you are choosing to die on the hill of some youtubers opinion lmfao. You also have more confidence to towing something with low end torque, that's why people love the diesels. You argument is so flawed its embarrassing. More towing capability than its v8 counterpart, plus better fuel economy. There are 0 numbers showing the silverado has better mileage so you should probably fact check yourself before looking stupid. Even folks at gm authority released fuel economy estimates before GM as a company did. And those estimates were WRONG.
