As a historical costumer, I 100% agree with the idea that hand sewing is easier than machine for many things. Although I may be a little biased as I don't exactly know how to use a machine...

I am down with the hand sewing prediction! I just watched a "Gentleman's Gazette" video on Neapolitan Style, and now my buttons will be sewn on with the chickenfoot stitch, and my hand worked topstitching will be slightly puckered. :)

hahaha. OMG. you got me to click through to watch this. "how am I qualified? I'm not!" you crack me up. oh, and no. no flares. please. lol. but I think you're right - I'd just rather see waistlines drop than flares but that's me. and DEF classes. IN PERSON. if concert announcements are any indication (and they are...as your @portlandfrocktails woman and a ghost editor/writer in advertising & podcasts) people want EVENTS. People want BIG over the top events, balls, costumes, MEMORIES and ADVENTURES. So with that, yeah, totally new styles too. This is the year for REINVENTION. I hope to see bias cut - but I really want to see people level UP their sewing in general. Let's sew styles and fabrics that scare us!! side note Jennifer: I want to see the dog. where's the bulldog?! I also want a Jennifer's Skin Care shortie cuz I know you love it and I want to know it. So, request: doggo and skincare.

I've never made them, but I know people love them! I just checked online, and Girl Charlee is still selling the PDF. Might have to give them a try!

I 100% agree with your predictions! I teach sewing and the classes are always full (with a wait list too!) with students of all ages eager to learn how to sew. One thing I predict will be trending that goes along with trying new things and hand sewing is challenging yourself to do more difficult things with sewing. Personally I am challenging myself to use more difficult fabrics, patterns and embellishments to my sewing this year. Happy sewing!

Bias Cut and finishing unfinished projects - absolutely in my mind. Bias cut for skirts and finishing for jackets 🌞

@@workroomsocial🙂🙂🙂 yes, it looks so great when skirts have this subtle swing! Normally i don’t sew with patterns, so I don’t have anything specific, but I really liked the bias-cut skirt from the latest seamwork video. I have a very lightweight, good woven cotton that I got last year as a Gift and would like to make some 40ies inspired but wearable dress from it. Dress! I mean dress!

Some days later 😅: looking around I realize, that it’s more the petticoat shape that i am looking for and not so much the bias cut. In fact I don’t even like some aspects of the bias cut flowiness. Sometimes it tends to make little bulks randomly here and there, doesnt it? I Just started making and wearing dresses and skirts in recent years. And I love flowy ,lightweight fabrics. But with a more formal structure - like a Shirt dress or a camisol or a simple circle skirt. The only bias cut pattern I liked so far is this one (free pattern) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mcd0iLOIu7nMmJc.html BUT: I am quite tall and skinny. So my Silhouette would be too stretched with this one,I think. It looks beautiful on the maker, though 🙂👌🏾!!!!!

Hand sewing - I just hand sewed lace onto bra cups for a Jordy bralette last night. The rest will be machine sewed but I wanted the lace overlays to look great and be secure but not eaten by my machine. :)

@@workroomsocial Nothing else in the hand sewing queue right now. I made a Nova Coat (papercut patterns) for a friend in Jan/Feb. After I make a few Jordy bralettes I want to make a couple more of the Watson bralettes (Cloth Habit). Beyond that the "want to make" queue is really long. :) Some of the patterns include - Workroom. Social jeans, Mitchell trousers by Closet Core, Lander pants True Bias, Haralson Belt Bag by Noodlehead and multiple bags from Love You Sew.

I agree with your predictions and along with trying something new like hand sewing, many garment sewists have been taking a stab at quilting. I predict that will pick up too.

Jennifer, these are great predictions. Did you make this before CCP released the Jude flares? I predict we'll see more gender-free, androgynous patterns. I also could see a rise in patterns specifically for refashioning - ex: skirts from thrifted jeans, etc. I think a lot of younger, Gen Z sewists are getting into the craft through upcycling; they're all over TikTok. You should do a follow-up vid in 2024 on how accurate you were!
