Thanks for being the ONLY reviewer to acknowledge the CD player. It was a huge factor in buying my 2023 Forester Limited. It was also the reason I bought this year’s model, because I was afraid Subaru was gonna put the huge screen in the ‘24, since that’s what they did in the Ascent. Great reviews.

I’m glad you enjoyed it! Of course the CD player gets a shout out, lol. I also worry about the next gen as we might want a Forester at some point. I recently reviewed a 2023 Touring but added a “Edit” to the title as it was just announced the 2024’s are the same! 🙌

In the last 2 decades I have owned a Toyota Corolla, then 2 generations of Honda Civic really great cars, Since 2018, I have owned a manual transmission Subaru Forester, I enjoyed every second, zero problems, I drove it 180,000 km, a reliable and stable car, a high seat and confidence, Now I'm changing to a 2023 Forester (and it's a shame they don't make more manual transmissions) Does not replace the SUV with any other vehicle, full value for the road, for a trip, for the off-road, for shopping, a huge space for storage, and of course for the family, Just a pleasure!

Thanks for the video. I'm a Honda guy (my past 6 new cars have been Hondas (plus 2 more Honda used cars)). I just bought a 2023 Subaru Forester Limited last week and I'm very pleased with it so far. I thought the lack of power would be an issue, but it sure is peppy enough. I also wanted the cd player so didn't want to wait for the 2024 model incase they remove that feature. I have the HK stereo and it is fantastic. Thanks for pointing out some of the features that I didn't even realize I had. (I hate the stop/start feature and wish it could be disabled all the time w/o having to do it each time I turn the car on. (there is an aftermarket company that has a fix but I don't want to void my warranty)) I got quite a good deal on this and they took quite a bit off of MSRP while on the telephone before I even went in to test drive and to discuss trade-in, etc.,

Congrats on 1st Suubie. Wife and I have had like 6 over the last 30 years. For deep snow and not suck a lot of gas, decades of really good crash ratings, they are hard to beat. Mrs made it over unplowed gravel and asphalt 20 miles to work with 15” of heavy wet springtime snow one morning. Impressive. I could use quieter interior when the gas pedal is mashed, but her latest 22 Outback Touring is getting close to more luxury quiet inside and smooth enough ride, has lighter touch steering and brakes. I like such very much. I have 16 Outback, definitely less refined sound when floored and harder effort to steer and brake. I’ll take easy steer and some body roll if it means I’m not beat up over rough roads. Just an old geezer. I’m looking at 23 Forester since it is a whole foot shorter in garage than my Outback. Taller roof might make getting my heavier e bike rolled in and out via short ramp easier. And I’m not totally impressed with wife’s Outback 11.6” computer tablet style control screen. Rather often it seems like distracted driving and I pull over to tweak stuff. I’d like the 2023 Forester’s many manual controls that get memorized to just reach and change without hardly having to look. That’s going away 2024 along with CD player. For self entertainment, KZfaq “Subaru Hill climb” see old stock Forester buzz right up a steep, long sandy hill and shame massive 4x4 trucks. And see “Subaru traction test” comparisons with competitors. Then ‘’Subaru deep snow”. Good stuff.

@@Skunked68 Thanks for your comments on your history and experiences with Subaru. Several of my friends have owned them too and they have been reliable. I bought the Forester due to its smaller size (even though I wanted the turbo'ed Outback engine since I thought I needed the additional power.) The one concern I did have is the recent problems some Subaru engines have with the RTV sealant, but as long as this vehicle is under warrantee, I'm not worried, since Subaru stands behind their products.

For people who like wilderness but don't want to sacrifice the mpg, you could just get Sport trim with Geolander tires as a compromise. You get strong roof rails and dual X modes but no aggressive gearing and extra ground clearance.

NC. That is sound advice. Helps keep my head screwed on straight. I like the more guy look of Wilderness, less common look about town, but am retired geezer and now days unlikely to actually off road it. So I could skip even the additional cost of Geolander tires. Just get the Sport and it’s a dandy trim price. I’ll have to see if Sport has preferred cloth seats, I am not big on hot/cold leather that also needs periodic leather conditioner. Thanks for advice.

Nice car! I should know...I have a 2004 Forester "X" model with 142K on it that I bought outright in September of 2003. It's done well and has been treated well. Now, for the past two or three years I've been serious researching on several cars and seem to always come back to the Subaru Forester due to many things. Price is good for what it offers. The Subaru company has had the Forester ever since 1998. That's a pretty good track record though there has been some issues in the past to near present years. Hopefully, this year I can finally get that new car...and at my age (72) it could be my last. (I hope not).

Tom, I’m a geezer. Wife and I have had like 6 Subarus over 3 decades. It’s all about the deep snow go for us and great crash safety. I’m looking at upgrading my 16 Outback for 23 Forester, a whole foot shorter in garage, taller for loading e bike in and out. I think I may avoid 2024 Forester with the big 11.6” computer screen control center. Wife’s 22 Outback has that and is like distracted driving. I pull over for deeper fiddling. Prefer to reach and tweak sans hardly having to look. Personal entertainment, look up KZfaq “Subaru hill climb” see old stock Forester climb a very steep, tall, sand hill, shaming big trucks. Also Subaru traction test, and deep snow. A winter hobby for me to watch such. But, what you’ve known all lifelong, you may prefer the knob and button controls of 2023 Forester over computer screen of the new 2024 edition. At least that’s where I’m at.

I bought a 2023 Subaru Forester Limited in October and love it so far! Long story short, I was in an accident back in September and my car was totaled but I’m ok. It was a 2016 Impreza wagon, and given how well that protected me in the accident, decided I wanted another Subaru, but something a little bigger which is why I went with the Forester. I looked at the Crosstrek, but felt outward visibility was better in the Forester.

Thanks. Yeah a guy claimed his steering got jammed causing him to cross the yellow line into my lane. Our front left corners hit each other. We were doing about 25 mph as this was a secondary road but lots of traffic on it due to the evening rush hour traffic. Yeah Subarus are rated well and the Forester was the top rated compact SUV by Consumer Reports.

But One complaint I have is that Subaru moved the USB ports to a spot under the infotainment screen, meaning you have to plug in there for Android Auto/Apple Carplay. So why did they do that... and there's no place to put your phone! So you jam your phone in there or run a cord back to the center armrest storage.

Well hopefully the Subaru CVT got better over the years because they had a lot of trouble with them early on. I found out first hand as my 2015 Subaru Forester with 36,000 miles blew the transmission last week. Fortunately Subaru changed the warranty on the 2014 and 15 models to 10 years because there were so many problems. And what did my local Subaru dealer give me for a loaner car ? A 2023 Forrester limited edition. It's a very nice SUV.

Has the CVT improved since 2015? I have learned to be cautious entering traffic due to a predictable delay in the car beginning to move forward after I press the gas pedal. Also, it sometimes lunges forward or is jerky. I hope the 2023 is better.

I think it is, although I’ve only driven one 2015 era Subaru (Forester XT I reviewed). Although I will say even driving 2019 Subaru’s and then hoping into a 2022/2023 I think the new ones feel noticeably better in some instances. Go drive one and report back with your opinion!😉

As I posted above the transmission on my 2015 forester broke down on me. It only had 36,000 miles . Because of all the problems on the 2014 and 2015 Subaru forester's as well as many other Subarus from that time frame Subaru changed the warranty to 10 years to cover the transmission. So I'll be getting a brand new transmission.. The only indication that something was wrong was was a burning smell over the last year during longer drives. Basically I was sitting at a stop light, light turned green I pressed on the pedal gigantic clunk and that was the end of The transmission. I suggest you call your local Subaru dealer and have them assess your situation.

@AutomotiveAnonymous208

I would absolutely suggest the Forester at that height! Yeah, the 24s were just announced to be the same gen. If you wait until the Spring/Summer you’ll likely be able to see what the 25’s offer, while still having time to order or find a 24. Assuming they are a new gen. If the new gen doesn’t offer a turbo or other substantial upgrades, which I doubt, I would personally buy the current gen for its infotainment system over the 11.6” screen. Best of luck! 🙂

Honestly no, I’m sure if you’re comparing a 2.5 Crosstrek it’s within a few 10th a second to 60 between the two. The 2.0 Crosstrek however is likely a couple full seconds slower than a Forester. The Forester only weights a few hundred pounds more or maybe 10% more so it’s not greatly affected. 🙂

One of the big issues is that Subaru uses a JATCO built CVT and it has had bad reliability in the past. Sure, Subaru can say that they have fixed but which company wouldn’t so you’ll have to be the guinea pig for the “update”. It is a shame that a company like Fuji heavy industries hasn’t paid Subaru a lot of attention. Lets hope that Toyota’s 20% share in Subaru leads to more Kaizen in Subaru’s future.

This one or the sport is the one to get. The touring is overpriced for what you get. If it had a turbo in it then it would be worth it. You get most of what subaru offers with the sport or limited trims. IMO they are diluting the forester trims too much and should just instead offer a turbo.
