Best car Reviewer out there, no BS accurate and to the point no obsession with 0 to 100 times and slamming the peddle to the floor. A modern-day Peter Wherrett perhaps.

While the 0-100ks is fine, it’s the 20-110ks that is very impressive. It goes like a scalded cat! VW, Audi etc always get off the line faster because of their unreliable, but quick DSGs. But once the XT spools up it sling shots past all but the fastest of them.

The best value wagon in Australia. So versatile and comfortable across many terrains. Considering most Australians drive 90% of our time on tar the Outback still manage masters luxury offroad when needed. As for the turbo its glorious and provides the power you need to keep you going and get you out if trouble on roads at times. The main negative everyone always brings up is fuel consumption compared to other brands however when filling the tank its such a minor difference. The extra cost is worth it. Still made in Japan and still remains a high quality build.

I don't like calling it an SUV, imo its a legacy with long travel suspension, just needs the bigger sti box guards. it's also one of the few new cars I have actually looked into buying, went on a test drive everything. but I would be forced into the cvt 😪

@@nickol1886 I’ve driven one as I ordered one some months back. We just got the test drive. The power is excellent. It’s an outback wrx. It would easily match any of the Rex’s they’ve ever made.

All models of the Outback range have a nominal 60:40 front to rear torque split, but can vary torque to each axle as conditions require.

Does the 80kph towing restriction imposed by Subaru on all of their previous vehicles still apply? Nobody ever mentions that, including the sales people when they know you want to buy it to tow with. No point being able to tow a decent sized van if you have to drive so slow on a highway, it's just stupidly unsafe (particularly for the other traffic). .

When did the Outback go from "Wagon" to "SUV"?

Under Australia's sales classifications, the Outback is a large SUV, even though it started life a raised wagon version of the Liberty/Legacy which was listed as a medium car. Confusing stuff, but there's a few instances of cars falling outside their class under the classification system here.

you never do a followup review say after 100k to see what failed and what worked properly, value is the whole of life cost to keep a car including all services and breakdowns etc.

All the clowns in here screeching about the 0-100 time. It's not intended to be a performance car, that's for the WRX and it's wagon (Levorg) variant. It's a big, comfortable wagon that's way more capable off road than every other 'soft roader' in it's catergory. The turbo engine gives it a fair bit more oomph for overtaking and towing, that's it's purpose. Is it slow? - No, it's pretty bloody lively for a big luxury offroad wagon. Which can only get faster using WRX power adders. Is it faster than the WRX, Audi's, Skoda's, VW's? No, it's not but it's not meant to be. Can the WRX, Audi's, Skoda's, VW's go offroad like the Outback? No, they cannot. Does the CVT suck? No, it's actually very good and in [S] mode and manualised it's a lot of fun.

Is it slow? - Yes, compare to what competition is offering for the same price. Is it faster than the WRX, Audi's, Skoda's, VW's? Subaru competition offer faster car compare to Outback Can the WRX, Audi's, Skoda's, VW's go offroad like the Outback? 99% will never take their vehicle offered, very a few people will take their vehicle to offroad. Does the CVT suck? Yes, just drive offering from VW, Skoda and Audi with DSG and will be a noticeable difference. Outback is build on a dated platform and design is not inspiring! the tail light looks really ugly......why would anyone buy the Outback over what VW/Skoda if offering? Personally I would take the VW Passat 206tsi R-Line in a heartbeat over the Outback.

SUV can mean anything - even an XV could be considered an SUV. "Sport Utility Vehicle" doesn't really suggest a size, it's just socially implied that it's the big ones.

1700 hrs 14/2/23. Trent, you’ve spent over 8 mins waffling on about what a great car it is. This is the XT TURBO …….we’ve been waiting for 2 years. We already know about the Gen 6 outback. Very disappointing video where you can’t or won’t do a 0-100km/h time. Obviously you’ve been gagged by Subaru or whoever, obviously this car is quicker than the na 2.5 and I would suggest the majority of those that have or will view this video are looking at engine performance. Most people will be non the wiser after watching this. The reality is this car does 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds as we have the exact same specs as NZ. Perhaps it’s the embarrassment of those times in this day and age and that’s why it’s been detuned for OZ as opposed to the US as it could be quicker than the WRX. I can understand the embarrassment, but in this day and age people look for accountability, integrity and honesty which speaks volumes. Hopefully other motoring editors will address this.

Thanks for the feedback Paul, this video is taken from the vehicle launch, so time in cars is limited, and there's often not a safe area off public roads to run 0-100km/h testing. Subaru hasn't provided an official 0-100km/h estimate, so it's something we'll look into when we can. Keeping in mind that although the engine provides improved performance, it's sole reason isn't to be a drag-strip hero so the improved mid-range is likely to be more important to the majority of owners.

0-100 time for Australia Subaru models: WRX Wagon - 6.91s Outback XT - ?? Outback N/A - 9.4s One would expect the XT to be in the 7 seconds range, putting it on par with the Mazda CX5 Turbo range. If it can't break 8 seconds, it would be a disappointment.

Can't agree more, this pointless review was a cut and paste from the non-turbo review. The reviewer mentioned the turbo engine as if it was an after thought when it should be front and centre.

It is. They are actually an okay box if you change the oil. Despite the anecdotes there is no epidemic of CVT failures

@@australianmade2659 I am talking purely about takeoff performance. 7 seconds 0-100 in the latest model is outrageous for a small performance sedan with the specs it has. Audi's transmission would use the exact same engine and chop 2 seconds off the acceleration times.

LOL, it isn't an SUV. It deserves a much better and more accurate label than this reviewer is according it. SUV is a horrible Americanism (like so many things these days) that's applied to far more cars than it should be. Generally, there's nothing even remotely sporty about the cars to which it refers so it is inaccurate from the start. The superb Outback is a stationwagon - thru and thru - on moderately higher, moderately off road suspension. It drives like a car-based stationwagon, and to my eye looks like a stationwagon. What on earth was he thinking lumping it in the so-called 'SUV' category with all those typical asthmatic, lumbering lard lumps called SUVs?

Just imagine that you meet a road work or bush fire in rural areas on a road trip and you have to take an alternative path and you are in a Ev and the range just not enough for you reach the next charge spot. I would say Ev is not ready for traveling yet.
