BAD:
1 - interior build and materials
This wont shock anyone, but it is worth mentioning
You get some nice features in here
But the build and materials are worse than the CTR and The Golf R for sure
They might even be outdone by the Hyundai N twins too
Interior is kinda chincy
but the seats are really nice
suede, red stitched, stitched headrest, heated
heated steering wheel
2 - Reverse camera
Nitpick, but with the new toyota infotainment software i thought they’d upgrade the camera
And forget about 360 camera, though i don't expect that on this class
3 - trunk
The trunk isn’t very large
They moved the battery to the rear for weight distribution and put it under the floor
But then they surrounded it with all thisfoam waste
Civic will have much larger trunk
4 - Rear seats
Rear seat is small
map pockets, chargers, no vents
a shocking amount of cupholders
CTR is only 4 seater and this is 5
5 - no armrests
Weird thing to delete, not even exclusive to the Morizo edition
6 - stiffness
This is great for chassis discipline on track
but this class of vehicle is meant to be fun daily drivers
And this ride would get old after a while
Though it’s not as punishing as the Kona N
-
GOOD:
1 - The Engine
1.6T 3 cylinder (from GR Yaris)
300 hp and 275 lbft
25 psi boost - morizo is up near 30
(CTR and Golf R have more power, but this is cheaper)
21/28 mpg (24 comb)
Turbo noises are dramatic
Have to rev it out - low down it’s not super dynamic
Engine makes you wind it out to get most out of it
2 - GR FOUR
AWD is standard and it has 3 different torque maps
The awd system is really sophisticated
it’s always sending power to the front
there’s no center diff
and it’s software based to minimize parasitic loss
so if you’re on a straight, even in 30:70 split
it will keep more power at the front
then when you get to a corner it’ll pull power back
will prefer to put power forward, so never feel rwd
3- way split
3 - Transmission
Manual only
iMT w/ rev match, but defaults to revmatch off
Throw is nice
Clutch has good travel
But pedal box will be hard to heel and toe in if you have tiny feet
4 - Looks
dramatic fenders front and rear
flared skirt w/ GR Four embossed
front gill
multispoke wheels w/ red calipers and Mich
functional hood scoops (hood is bulged)
massive grille w/ gr four on radiator
LED headlights
rear end is bulged and dramatic
triple exhaust, diffuser, etc
carbon fiber roof on circuit trim
circuit gets black spoiler
5 - Tech
The tech stack is impressive for this class and price point
Infotrainement runs new Toyota system which I like
Full digital cluster
JBL speakers and wireless charger for circuit
Driver assist suite is nice
6 - Chassis discipline
Circuit is lighter than core (22 lbs)
Mention morizo
Dial isn’t for drive mode, it’s your torque dist
smaller toggle for drive mode
Ride is really stiff, like almost Kona N stiff
Feels more disciplined than CTR or GOLF R
kinda dailyable, but you have to really want it
Handling is another level
LSD front and rear std on circuit (optional on core)
Longest wheelbase GR car
7 - Specialness
While Honda reminds you you’re in something special by wrapping you in red
Toyota puts GR badges all over the place
GR steering wheel
GR shifter
GR start button
