@@DGCNYO Toyota was literally involved with the Supra (MK5 A90/J29), it wasn't "just made by BMW". And you better thank Toyota and BMW for the partnership cause if the Supra was "built by Toyota only" the Supra MK5 would've been expensive like the new Honda NSX(and that is literally a sales flop car, same can be said for the Nissan GTR R35 despite the hype). The current Generation (G29 generation) BMW Z4 would not be in existence today if it wasn't for the MK5 A90/J29 Supra. Last generation's BMW Z4 was literally a sales flopped car . And for the record, no one gave a damn about the MK4 A80 Supra (4th Gen) which was literally a sales flop throughout the 1990s(and criticized at that for being different to the 3rd gen A70 MK3 Supra). And it's literally a dressed-up Lexus SC400(1UZ V8) and SC300(2JZ).

Remember, "GR" means "higher performance" . Just like "SRT" that is the same for the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger. So of course the "GR" Supra MK5 (a Thoroughbred Sports Car)will cost more than the" GR" Corolla "GR" is to Toyota, as "SRT" is to Dodge. The same as "SVT" is to Ford. Those Divisions just upgrade the already existing cars from the Manufacturer.

The new BRZ/GR86's are plenty practical, just for two people. I've had two mountain bikes on a tow hook mounted carrier, a four person tent on the roof and a weeks worth of food, water and clothes packed into my '22 for camping and it's been rock solid. It wasn't some off road adventure, but I'd like to see a bone stock Corolla try off-roading and get better results. No roof panel warping under load, the bike carrier didn't feel janky. 28mpg even with all the crap on it. It's the perfect daily driver for apartment dwelling millennials that have no hope of affording a house before 45..

My spouse and I love our BRZ as a car that does 99% of what we need on a regular basis, is fun for autocross, we plan to track it, and every once in a while we rent something larger when we need it. Thank you for repeating what me and the only other guy in my corolla GR marketing focus group of car enthusiasts years ago. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 3 cylinder or less than 2liters of displacement, if it performs, if it is fast, it’s good! Everyone else in my Focus group was too, hung up on it not being a V-8 or V6 or having more than 3.8 L of displacement for whatever reason they didn’t care that it could be fast they just wanted to make sure it suited their ego on paper.

Do you think it will live up to the reputation of Toyotas reliability? Does it leave much room for further modifications because 300hp out of a 3 cylinder 1.6 Litre engine is insane. If your focus group was hung up on v8/v6 it definitely screams American/Older Australian, This seems more targeted as a competitor to the Golf R. The new GR Corolla/Yaris kinda reminds me of the TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Aurion we had down here in Australia.
@thedriverux
@thedriverux Жыл бұрын
@@edwardbrandon3170 no clue about reliability, as time will tell, but should no means should we, as consumers in my opinion, reject sight unseen. Funny you should guess about the demographics of the focus group. We were all American, but the only 2 people not caring about the # of cylinders were on the older side, while the rest of the guys and girls who needed big displacement were in their 20s. All 8 of us were driving competitor cars at the time: evo, focus RSs, STis, golf r, type r. I guess them kids just wanted what they didn’t have.

What I've noticed about Toyota is they provide a GREAT value if you buy the boring base or mid-level trim. Mom bought one of the first 2019 Rav4's to hit the street in late 2018(new body style that year). Paid $30,000 out the door with taxes and everything for an XLE which had heated cloth seats, sunroof, power hatch and a few other options. I was there to help her shop and the upper trim levels fully decked out were $6000 more, for what, leather seats and AWD??? Not to mention the more expensive hybrid Rav4 and plug in variant which cost even more. This Corolla GR plays to the same folly because of stupid dealer markups and Toyota not flooding the market with them. In theory you really do get A LOT more for the extra $13,000 in "MSRP", comparing a base Corolla to the GR version. Its like going from a base Impreza to a WRX STI.

As an owner of a 1996 Celica, I've been saying for years that the FR-S platform looks far more like a Celica than it does an AE86. In fact, if it were up to me, I'd put a version of the 3cyl engine in the GR86, make it a liftback, and rename it the Celica and rename the GR Corolla the GR86, or the GR Corolla 86.

When we look back at the history of the early 21st century enthusiast car, we will see with clarity that it was the dealership that killed them. They don't sell because people can't buy them when the middle man feels his wallet's not full enough. So manufacurers rarely make them anymore. I'm so glad Toyota is at least trying. I got the chance to drive a morizo at the toyota dealership I work at and it changed my perspective on imports, i am a die hard American big V8 muscle guy and the gr corolla impressed me of how well a turbo 3 cylinder can put down power and feels way more refined than most modern muscle cars feel, The AWD system is awesome you can dump it and the tires wont even chirp, the handling is amazing and the shifter which I originally thought would be too long of a throw felt perfect when banging thru gears. Might have to order one when we finally start gettin some cores in (and prices go down smh 😭)

The Men smashing Bud Light Cans absolutely matter.. The brewing giant on Thursday reported that its U.S. revenue in April-to-June quarter fell 10.5% from a year ago, attributing the decline "primarily due to the volume decline of Bud Light." It has lost its place as America's best-selling beer after more than two decades, slipping into second place in June behind Mexican lager Modelo Especial, which is also owned by the Belgium-based ABInBev. The company faced backlash after sending a commemorative Bud Light can to Mulvaney, who posted it to her millions of social media followers.

great car. Good luck buying one at anything close to MSRP though. I wanted to buy one this past summer. I had cash in hand, no financing needed. There were waitlists requiring nonrefundable down payments and absolutely insane markups. Got a used STI instead and had enough money left over for some nice upgrades and the inevitable EJ woes. As you said, dealers gonna deal. But I'm not going to deal with them.

Full-time awd + an aggressive factory tune will do that. The only way this thing would get good gas mileage would be to cut its power significantly. Sure, maybe an 8 speed transmission could improve fuel economy, but who the hell would want that over the 6 speed manual?
@ahemhimynameis
@ahemhimynameis Жыл бұрын
How much fuel? Yes. To edit. The reason it’s a 3 cyl is because Toyota is experimenting with high piston circumference and high atomization injectors, it has so much torque because the 3 cyl has more overall area to be pushed down on by the explosion of the atomized fuel and air than a 4 cyl would be able to. Those bigger injectors use a shit ton of fuel so bye bye fuel economy
