More Power , More Range, More Everything!!!
The 2023 Prius Prime is the multitalented plug-in hybrid that’s made for life on the go. With a full charge, it can easily handle most daily commutes, with
Up to 44-Miles / 72 kms of Manufacturer-Estimated All Electric Range, 76% More than Prior
Generation
Fuel Sipping Manufacturer-Estimated 52 Combined MPG in Hybrid Mode
Hybrid System with nearly 100-HP Gain for Improved 0-60 time
New Traffic Jam Assist Technology to Aid Drivers in Stop-and-Go Traffic
Toyota Audio Multimedia with 12.3-inch Touchscreen and JBL Premium Audio Available
manufacturer-estimated all electric range of up to 44 miles. When the longer-haul calls, its fuel-
efficient hybrid powertrain is ready to keep going, with a manufacturer-estimated 52 MPG
combined rating.
Add in a sleek, sporty new look with a comfortable, tech-packed interior and it’s
an all-new Prius Prime that’s ready for the road ahead.
Available in SE, XSE, and XSE Premium grades, Prius Prime’s new, larger 13.6 kWh lithium-ion
battery gives it over a 75 percent jump in all-electric range over the previous generation, climbing
from 25 to 44 miles in the SE grade. The XSE and XSE Premium grades have a manufacturer-
estimated range of 39 EV miles. For longer drives, Prime relies on Toyota’s fifth generation hybrid
system that combines a highly efficient 2.0-liter engine,
an electric generator, and electric motor
for an efficient driving experience.
The new Prius Prime also leaps forward in the horsepower category. With a larger 150-hp 2.0L engine and bigger 161-hp electric motor generator too, its 220-system-net-horsepower is around 100-hp more than the prior generation. The higher output also adds 32-percent more torque, climbing from 105 to 139 lb.-ft. providing a 40-percent faster 0-60 time of 6.6 seconds.
The all-new Prime also brings head-turning good looks to the road. With a sleek new sporty
design that is 2-inches lower, 1-inch wider, and 1-inch longer than the previous generation. Its
smooth, aerodynamic look comes from its hammerhead nose, lower roofline, and widened rear.
And to complete its aggressive appearance, it comes with machine finished 19-inch wheels that
are unique to the Prime XSE grades, while 17-inch wheels come standard on the SE.
On the inside, drivers will find an interior with a premium, comfortable feel. Features include a
new, standard digital driver’s display for a heads-up line of site, comfortable seating in fabric or
SofTex-trim depending on grade, and Toyota’s new Audio Multimedia system. For even more
convenience, all grades come with Toyota’s new Traffic Jam Assist technology, when a Drive
Connect trial or subscription is active this radar-based system helps ease the burden of stressful
stop-and-go traffic on limited access roadways by operating the steering, gas and brake pedals
from speeds between 0-25 mph
under certain conditions*.
Both the standard Prius hybrid and the Prius Prime are powered by Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain, which seamlessly combines the output of the gasoline engine and electric motors. The biggest difference is that the Prius Prime can be plugged in to recharge its lithium-ion battery pack. There’s no special equipment needed for home charging, just plug the Prius Prime into a standard household outlet (Toyota recommends using a dedicated GFI 15A outlet) using the supplied cable. The battery will recharge in about eleven hours on a standard 120V home outlet and in about 4 hours on a level II charger under ideal conditions. And if you can’t plug it in, it’s OK., Prius Prime will continue to run like an efficient hybrid.
The Prius Prime offers various drive modes to give the driver options depending on their needs: EV Mode, HV/EV Auto Mode, and Hybrid Mode. EV Auto Mode will automatically rely more on its electric capability for driving around town. When in HV/EV Auto Mode, the extremely efficient engine will engage where it is more efficient to run the gasoline engine, like up steep hills or at higher speeds. In Hybrid Mode, the Prius Prime automatically switches between the gasoline engine and the electric motor. It efficiently combines the engine drive force and the electric power from the hybrid battery.
The Prius Prime can even optimize range by recognizing the driver’s stopping patterns on frequently driven routes and suggesting when to let off the accelerator. Available Predictive Efficient Drive with Predictive Deceleration Support collects daily driving data to optimize points of deceleration and stopping. From then on, when the driver goes through a frequented location, the system indicates when to let off the accelerator and can apply assisted deceleration to help boost fuel efficiency.

PHEV makes perfect sense. Toyota makes the best hybrid in the world. Along with its sleek styling and its not an SUV, its a proper sedan. Prius Prime, same as regular hybrid version, are definitely the best cars to get right now.

Kudos...Q: as you have heard Tesla Model 5 is coming mid 2024 for around $20K mind you a shorter range. Would you wait or that long, or just jump on this new Prius? anyone ?

Tough to get behind the idea of purchasing a fully equipped car then having to pay a monthly subscription to access features it's equipped with from the factory. Price it accordingly and dump the subscriptions. As is, Toyota/Lexus/BMW and Benz are off my list.
@onlysublime

You don't have to get any subscription. And if you're going to scratch off cars with potential subscriptions, then scratch off any platform with electric cars like Tesla. Also companies like Honda, Nissan, etc

@@onlysublime subscriptions are only going to take hold if chumps are willing to pay to access equipment their cars are equipped with. As for four wheeled swastikas (Tesla), if you have to sign an NDA in order to get the car serviced, there's no helping you. The market will decide.

you do get free subscriptions on some items and some are free. If you don't want to pay for subscription then don't get those items. You have wireless car play/android auto so you don't need the maps. Not a good reason not to buy a vehicle.

Aggressive driving with sudden acceleration can make a difference on battery reserves. Habits like increasing the stopping distance can help extend range, etc.

@@rversocal8889 yes, agree. Of course it was unclear from the video whether or not there was much aggressive drive during the drive. It would have been more useful if there was a commentary on the range that was achieved and whether the drive was at speed limits and if not, what percentage of the drive was aggressive, use of hvac etc…..
@safetyhomeloans950

If you look closely at the video , there are various scenes were I saw the speed odometer as he was driving up to 71MPh, also the weather, it looks like he likes to put his AC up to Max so after adding those into the formula, I would say yes 72 seems reasonable if you drive say 45MPH on the street and you cruize as much as you can". boils down to driving habits. I was a fast driver but then I realize after doing some actual driving test that on average if you drive fast you end up with 5 extra minutes vs if you drive slow. so yeah 5 minutes actually is not worth it plus you spend more on gas. FYI this is of course city driving not highway....

The Only way to buy a Prius is to order them is the nail in the coffin for the Prius. $30k+ for an economical car is an oxymoron. Making then lower and smaller inside they will loose most of us old people (50 year old) that have bought 3 of them. Most of the people that are raving about them NEVER bought them before and will NEVER buy one anyway. Fact. Actual Prius owners (That actual bought Prius NEVER gave a crap in 0-60 EVER, if I want speed I would take out the ZX14r or her Boxster). even though we bought 3 off them before we will NOT buy the new design. We will just keep the older version because they will run for ever. It’s actually a fail for the ACTUAL Prius BUYERS.
