On a recent test ride on this bike, I took fuel gauge range to zero, then rode another 6 miles to the nearest fuel station, if that helps?

I have taken it to 300 miles and had a half gallon left in the tank. So, 315 to 320 is possible, but would never try to do that. Good to know that 300 is possible with a small cushion.

Something like the K1600 or the Goldwing is really comfortable and smooth, but you are right they to take away from that visceral feel of riding. Pros and cons to that or course. We shall see how the Tiger does over time, but so far I am really enjoying it. Thanks Jim!

Been watching your chanel for some years now. I love your common sense approach to picking our bikes. Accept for the bmw 😏. But love the content. Keep it coming. And as far as the triumph goes, great bike. I haven't seen to much go wrong with any of them. Very few issues with the tiger 1200s over the years. Out of all the European bikes out there, the tiger 1200s are probably the most reliable. Now as far as the other triumph models I don't know but I have seen some issues with the other models. But I think you gone enjoy that tiger 1200 for many years to come. Please keep us informed on the maintenance and cost with it. I'm thinking of purchasing one myself. Yeah, the BMW services are rather pricey. I have the 10k on the Tiger scheduled for July.

I just got back from a three day trip and I did not notice the buzzing as much. The bike maybe getting broken in or I am just getting used to it. Also, the seat seems to be getting broken in as well, I did not have any butt issues. Interesting about the buffeting. I ran a couple hours on the interstate with crazy people at 80 and did not get any. At those speeds the windscreen does shake a bit, but I felt fine and the bike was solid. I was running the screen at the top

Adding a top box will affect handling, but how much depends on the bike and how much you store in there. Top boxes can also change the aerodynamics at speed, which is very bike dependent. The BMW had a tendency to move around a bit on the the highway. If I removed the top box, that went away, for the most part.. So far I do not feel that on the Triumph. I primarily added the top box on the Tiger for Cathy, so she could ride with me on occasion. For solo travel, I actually prefer having a flat surface to strap waterproof bags. That is how the Tenere was set up. With that said, the locking top case does come in handy for small things like phones, cameras, your helmet. I try not to put anything heavy up high. If I was doing off-road travel, I would remove the top case and go with soft bags. So I guess the answer is that there are gives and takes. Think about the type of riding you are doing and what will be the most flexible for you. Thanks!

You are of course correct, none of these things are cheap and I would not have complained about the BMW if it did not give me trouble. I only spent a $200 on "repairs," everything else was routine. Then you add in UHaul and car rental for a week, that was the killer. I would expect things to go wrong at 60,000 miles, not at 15,000. Thanks!

The K was a great bike to ride, but so is the Tiger and for solo trips I enjoy it more than the K. For 2 up riding the K was much better though

@@LivingOffTheSlab thats good I've spent my adult life on v twin cruisers but want try something that has more off road abilities but still work as a commuter.

One caution I will pass on is that they are tall bikes. Coming from a cruiser and being able to get both feet on the ground, as I did too, you have to learn to ride them a different way.

Thanks for the feedback on your Triumphs. It is good to hear that other riders are really enjoying them. I just did a video comparing the Tenere to the new Tiger and in it I mention the shift assist. That is a cool feature, and it works very well. That video will be up in a few weeks as there are a couple more in front of it.

No, those went with the Tenere. These are new Triumph branded, by Givi.

The stock exhaust system is fully EPA compliant. As long as I don't modify that system, I am fine.

I have not experienced and buffeting riding the bike. You do get some wind on the chest and shoulders but that does not bother me. I have been running the shield all the way up.

The suspension is electronically adjustable. I set the damping I want and the preload is handled automatically. Seems to work great.

No, the first service was not free. It cost about $375.

The bigger bikes are better for two up riding and Cathy does have to mount the bike first, but she makes it. The low seat is only 3/4 of an inch lower and it might cause me to bend a bit more, but I don't have long legs to start with, I am fine and it allows me to get both feet on the ground when necessary.

Not so far. There are things I that could be better, like the way the TFT screen is organized, but so far I really like the bike. Going on a couple of long trips this year, so we shall see.

@@LivingOffTheSlab Thanks for the quick reply. I’ve always owned Japanese bikes but I’m really drawn towards the Tiger 1200, i think it’s the mid range engine noise. I’ll take a test ride of that and the GSA and see what I prefer. Thanks again.

So far it has been very stable. I have not done 110, just 90 plus and cruising above 80mph.

She is not as comfortable, as on a big bike but she is riding with me less now a days, so did not want to buy a big bike that I did not want for my trips. We may have to do something with the pillion seat or try a pad next year.

For sure the required maintenance on these kinds of bikes gets expensive, but it the bike is running well and doing a good job for you, it is far cheaper to do the service than to buy another bike. I am coming up on the 20K mile service for the Tiger and it is going to cost a couple of grand US. These costs are just part of owning a modern motorcycle and while the Triumph is a bit cheaper on a per mile basis (when you include oil changes, etc.) the difference is not that big that I would switch just for maintenance costs. I would also not buy another Tenere, the bike has not changed in the three years you have owned it. Do the maintenance and keep enjoying it. On the other hand, if you are just looking for something new and want more power, better brakes, better suspension and all the technology that comes on the Tiger, then that would be a reason to change. All around the Tiger is a better bike than the Tenere and I hear the 2024's are being updated with even more tech (radar cruise, being one thing). So far I have 15K miles on the bike and it has had no major issues. Just a small oil leak from the oil filler cap (solved with an O-ring) and the seat adjustment elastic broke (this is not a good setup). But, those are minor. Everything else has worked great!

I’m thinking if I trade it in next year, it’ll have lesser trade in value and I can use that $2200 on the tiger. The 2 super teneres I owned, hasn’t changed at all. Both the 2015 and 2020. I have the GT Explorer. I assume you mean why did I not get the Rally Explorer, the off road version? Personal, I have no delusions as to my ability to ride a 600 pounds bike off road. I have a 250 for that.

Yes it is 10k or 1 year whichever comes first. I would always change oil at least once per year prior to storing it for to the winter. Personally, I am not going to worry about this very much. I am going to follow the manufacturers recommendations and enjoy riding the bike.

I purchased 100% synthetic oil (Maxima) and a hi-flo filter. Did my own service. The motor oil, filter and final drive fluid cost me 97 dollars with tax. 60 dollars to reset the the service light. So roughly 165 bucks for an annual service. That’s very reasonable

@@ernestoluzan I use conventional oil at about $8/qt and Bosch filters at about $6 each. So, my annual service on my BMW is about $38 (excluding final drive which does not need to be done even close to annually) which is far more reasonable than $165. $127, even at today’s $4/gallon gas, is enough to ride 1,500 miles on my BMW. I’d rather ride 1,500 miles than pay money for oil and filters that add no value.

@@LTVoyager I’m not sure what you mean by “add no value”. Synthetic oil isn’t a gimmick. Conventional oil, even at shortened intervals has been proven to lose protection additives and cause higher acid levels on your crankcase. Dont take my word for it, I send all my oil base types and send a oil analysis in on my truck, motorcycle and atv’s once a year. Time intervals make ZERO Sense. Triumph has a 10k or annual service because they want to make sure people have a line. I’ll sample my oil at one year or 10k whichever comes first to see what my TBN and TAN are. Then and only then, will I set my own oil drain intervals

@@ernestoluzan I did not say synthetic was a gimmick. I use it in my cars and trucks since the 1970s as they get operated often at below zero temps or have turbochargers that run very hot. Synthetic adds value in those conditions. My motorcycles seldom run at temps below 30 degrees or above 100 and none of them are turbocharged. Synthetic adds no value in this operating regime. My BMW K1200LT is approaching 100,000 miles running on conventional Castrol oil. The cams look like new and this is with 6,000 mile or annual changes. Using synthetic in my BMW or my KLR650 would be a complete waste of money.

Based on my experience, I would get the Goldwing. You can watch my 2022 trip videos and see the issue I had with overheating.

The panniers did not bother her, but she did not like the seat. We are going to try a pad in the spring. She did say the top case pushed forward a bit but not bad. The main thing was the seat.

@@LivingOffTheSlab Interesting. I had an airhawk on the pillion seat of my previous bike but the missus wasn't that keen on it. Trick with those is to have the least amount of air in it as possible.

Yes...Every bike should be serviced once a year, unless it is not being ridden. I typically do mine before putting them away for the winter.

10k is ok, but as a casual rider you end up being screwed annually, and those maintenance are not cheap, around 500-600$

Yes, 10k or once per year. New bikes use fully synthetic oil. It is the manufacturers recommendation, why would not follow that?

Manufacturers say that for environmental regulation reasons. I change oil according to how dirty it looks, which is usually earlier than what they say. Just me.
