I live in Anchorage and my favorite trip, especially on the motorcycle is. To McCarthy and the Kennicott Copper Mine. It is in the gorgeous Wrangler St Elias National Park. It is an amazing substitute!!!👍😎

Thanks for making this video, it's one of the reasons I'm back riding after an 8 year break. I'm just a month shy of my 69th birthday. I came late to the motorcycle party, got my first bike when I was 50. Honda VTX 1300 and loved it until I sold it 8 years ago. I ran across your video, and started thinking, "instead of giving up, get a bike that's more fitting to my age, and abilities". I've been back riding for 6 weeks now, as a proud owner of a Honda Rebel 1100 DCT. No clutch to work with my arthritic hands, light enough that I can pick it up on my own. Yeah, I've already had the experience LOL. The automatic gives me less to think about, so I can focus more on what's going on around me. My skills are coming back quick, and my confidence is lagging just a bit behind that which is probably a good thing, keeps me respectful of the power of this machine. Thanks again!

It really depends on what you think touring is. My best tour was with my son on his UK legal learner bike, an MT125, limited to 12bhp, me on a Husqvarna 701. So not classic touring bikes. We rode the Scottish North Coast 500. It was magical. Around 120 miles a day in the draw droppingly beautiful Scottish Highlands. Don't overthink it, especially you American lads. You worry too much. I see Yanks taking firearms with them for a motorcycle trip. I've ridden from Arctic Finland to Saharan Morocco and never had a thing stolen (I only ever use soft luggage and I do lock my bike up) or ever felt the need for a firearm. I'm ex British military so not especially worried about firearms, but outside of the Army, guns are pretty pointless. Btw hard cases are a piece of piss to break into. With my MoskoMoto rackless 40 I can easily carry my stuff into a hotel but I've left my kit on bikes in big cities (Barcelona, Porto and Lisbon) and dozens of small towns across Europe and North Africa. With zero problems. So just do it, without thinking too hard. A chain really isn't a problem.

People in Europe usually do not have a good idea of just how big the US and more so, Canada is. You cannot "comfortably" travel the normal distances we travel. Over there, you have nice towns and villages 20 to 30 miles apart. So their idea is different than ours. I am now 70, and have been riding Gold Wings exclusively since 1975. For me, there is no other better touring motorcycle. It meets my needs. Haven't done a 750 mile day since 2015, because I am physically not wanting to do that anymore. I want the quietest bike I can get, as vibrationless as I can. Locking luggage, shaft drive, water cooled, probably one of the most reliable bikes on the market. However, if I lived in Europe, I could easily see myself wanting something different. The final thought, is each to thier own.

Exactly Craig, an old acquaintance of mine was hauled off his mountain bike from behind in National park early spring off-season by an emaciated 2-year-old black bear, what they call a downer bear. He managed to fight off the downer bear, but his fore arm and bicep and pieces of his cheek were pulled off him very quickly and very lucky that he didn’t bleed out. Now a mother bear with cubs is like going up to a great white shark hip high in water off a beach to get a picture and territorial instincts of a mother bear compounds that situation by 10 and mother bear swipes heads off or rips asses out and limbs off fast. Mother bear gets hunted down destroyed and the cubs are orphaned all for a picture. Leave the wild life alone.

Stopping to take closeup pictures of any kind of wild animals with nothing between you and them as protection is just plain stupid. I have personally witnessed a number of close calls with elk in Jasper, bison in Yellowstone and bears in several BC parks where brain dead tourists came very close to being severely injured. If you want close up pics of wildlife use a telephoto lens and for God’s sake, keep your distance!

70, ride a 1200 Thruxton cos the 1450cc Kawasaki zx14R I had was always too tempting to ride at very high speeds....180/200 kmh in a 110 blanket speed country . Just doing 146kmh landed a $800 fine. You ride to the bikes comfort zone not constantly monitoring.
