Awesome video - I've owned 250 4ts, 125 & 150 2ts, and now I own a 2022 Honda CRF450R-S that's been built up as a 450RX for cross country, and a 2019 (19-21 era) TM Racing EN300ES 2t that has every power upgrade you can throw at it from the powerparts catalog, and I have to say these are my favorite bikes I've EVER owned!!!!- not because I'm such a great rider, not because these bikes are the fastest bikes for a 34yo male vet rider,but because of the FUN FACTOR, reliability with big bores, and because I'm a 250lbs US Navy veteran who has a heavyweight Kickboxing frame (225 lbs with no body fat whatsoever), and the bikes easily can pull me up desperate situations on mountains where my ex YZ250FX and TE150i scared me due to lack of torque for my big frame at times...they did however, force me to work on throttle and clutch modulation, and I wish I had the money to buy them again, but perfectly happy with the big bores, cause not much is required to keep them kicking! :) Thanks again, Max! You keep the dream alive, and in these uncertain and scary times,the world needs dirt bikes, fun, and community more than ever!! 💪❤

It’s never going to be a fair comparison until it’s an even match. 125cc 2stroke vs 250cc 4stroke is not a fair comparison when the 250 has twice the displacement

exactly! are they saying to be a fair comparison it has to be a 125cc 2stroke vs a 250cc 4stroke? So a 250 2stroke is not a one on one comparison? If so then their admitting a 2stroke is superior when cc for cc are equal!

This just proves that EVERY sanctioning body should be allowing 250 2 strokes to compete against 250 4 strokes.

@EarthSurferUSA Жыл бұрын
Well, the FIM does what the EPA and global commie government tells them to do, and factories are forced to make the 4-stroke engine, (for one example of the world today), through regulation no mater what the cost. The way to end it is drop the sanctioning bodies, and let the factories run the racing. They won't waste the industries money, like races in Turkey and other places that buy no bikes.

I’ve been thinking about how the 4 strokes are faster around the track, I think it comes down to how the 2 stroke fires every time the piston comes up. It seems like it wants to spin more than the 4 stroke because of that.

@@Scott_Buchanan it's not that at all, power is power. The old idea used to be that the cc of the pipe added to the cc of the combustion chamber, effectively supercharging a 2 stroke 250 to process 450cc of air volume. But with the modern head flow, valves, cams, pipes, and tuning of a four stroke, they can process more than 250cc worth of air now, unlike the older air cooled 2 valve 4 strokes when the rule was made. Now the 2nd non power stroke of a 4 stroke allows the 250f to gain traction and drive forward whereas the 2 stroke will simply spin.

How heavy is the test rider, (in lbs)? 125s had their limit back when they were racing other 125's. That weight was about 165-170lbs, (Ron Lechien did win the 1985 championship and MX Des Nations at 180, on that super fast Works Honda 125 of the day though). I am pretty sure a fast 140 or 150lb kid would be a couple seconds faster just because of the power to weight ratio.

These comparisons are fun, but a fundamental mist-understood and what you said for comparison is a good thing is actually not a true reflection of 2t vs 4t, a stroke uses a track differently to a 4 stroke, your test rider said it best when he said the 4t is punchy on the straights, a 2 stroke in each CC requires different track craft, line choice, the 2502t the most versatile in terms of how it can use a track, a 125 is all about momentum so choosing lines which are different to a 250f are imperative even in the hey day of 125 class racing it was the biggest separator between a true 125 rider and the rest you can’t be lazy ride inside lines and drop off the pipe or lose momentum, where is on a 250 you could cut inside fan the clutch and instantly be on pace, you could go inside outside but the best were always in the meat of the power, hence why pro bikes were tuned that way and not joe friendly, but line choice track craft is very different on a 2 stroke maybe the 500 is most like a 4t in terms of lines because you ride a gears higher to manage the power and generally they don’t turn in like a 125 and 250 so it’s throttle control and right gear in between the straights on a. 5 hundy, but few people I see today can really test a 2 stroke that actually ride and race a 4t as there lines are brain memories into there system. Still your test rider did great and he’s a machine, Nev Bradshaw be one of the few maybe. But I the only guy I can think of who in the last 5 years can actually ride a 2 stroke at real pace right at top level for comparison is Carson Brown and that’s 125/250 or 500 that kid really knows how to ride a 2stroke right. Check him out if you haven’t seen him ride. Great work Max. How about a 125 shoutout betwee Fantics 125/ GG 125 here, the KTM and Husky and YZ, 22/23 models, love to see that.🤘

Good points. IMO, the 4-strokes have made the tracks so fast, you have to wring the guts out of a 250 2-stroke like a 125 everywhere to keep up, and the line choices actually get similar between the 2 machines. Now for as how to ride a 2-stroke, yes, we have lost that talent. I never made pro, but I know in my prime 30 years ago, I would be on the gas a lot earlier in those left hand sand corners. I never got right hand turns down so naturally. The jumps locations are silly today. You can stop at the beginning of a corner and still clear the next jump. Even the 125 was slowing down to not flat land. Flat land the damn thing. :) It seems tracks today, (especially SX tracks in the USA, which might as well have a speed limit sign before each rhythm section.), are designed to keep everybody the same speed, and I can tell when the top 8 guys are on the same second for lap times. Eli was great this year and did separate himself from the pack, (still hard to keep a good individual down). But pretty much, it is not really about who has the most talent when 8 guys have the track wired, but who makes the least mistakes. These tracks come from socialist, (and even communist IMO), FIM, where nobody is suppose to do better than there "brothers". It can create close racing, (or is it just a fast parade?), but it also destroys greatness and confidence. When is the last time you heard a 450 USA racer say, "I am going to win this race!" "I am going to win this series!"? Even Eli still did not have the confidence to say that as he pushed his mental block aside long enough to show some actual domination,----the greatness of the individual, that I love to see so much. I get bored of a parade.

@EarthSurferUSA
@EarthSurferUSA Жыл бұрын
Learn how to fix it, and longevity lasts longer. It also makes you smarter, and you may even be able to start a business with the talents you earn. Or you can just ride it and not really get any opportunity from it. After riding a lot and some racing, I went out and earned 3 college degrees in manufacturing while working full time, (2 of them engineering degrees, one machine tool tech), and I was still just above poverty with a ton of skill and education. So I started a small business porting small 2-stroke engines, (mostly for 1/5th scale RC cars with a gas 2-stroke 30cc engine), sell them all over the world with a great distributor in Utah, and have gotten myself out of poverty for the last 15 years. So yea, I am all about learning to start your won business,---totally. I know my last 15 years were worth it, and my Dad used to yell at me for spending all my money on dirt bikes. LOL I had no idea either at that time,--but that is how you can make it work. :)

If they made more torque, they would be beating the 4-strokes. But in the USA a 125 2-stroke, (gotta be bad azz to break 40hp at the wheel), is forced to race against a 47hp 250 4-stroke. Somebody evil---does not want us riding 2-strokes.

I'm still dirty about the way 2strokes were relegated to 2nd position by the Greenie pollution push. Giving 4strokes a huge size advantage is stupid and inequitable. The racing controlling body's and powerful manufacturing interests did a number on grassroots racing. I've yet to see pollution stats on both as to which MX type is cleaner. The 4strokes would have such wild cams they'll pump lots of unburnt fuel out their exhaust.

Shhhh the greenies are gonna come for 4 strokes next. First they came for the two strokes, but I did't ride a two stroke. Then they came for the four strokes, so I got an E-Cycle. Then they pulled the plug on E-bikes..... cuz at the end of it all they are coal powered 70% of the time. They push everyone on a track like thats gonna save the environment. What's the carbon footprint of rigs travelling to a MX track so everyone can show up to watch riders go in circles all weekend? Then when you ride locally your destoying enviornmentaly sensitive areas, get your your bike impounded and two years later there are zero lot line condos on the land or a Super Walmart. Two stroke till I die.

Not really a fair test,---since we pretty much forgot how to ride a 2-stroke. I am sorry guys, but some of that corner speed on the 250 2-stroke was not all that great. Some of those corners is lean it over and pin it, (with clutch control), not roll into the apex before you get on the gas. I used to do it, (58 years old now), I promise.
