Próspero Año Nuevo! A journal highlight from 2023 for me was how coincidental it was to see you at the Newark airport at the end of September on my way to a water project in the Yucatán. I am glad to hear you are recharged and back sharing your adventures & knowledge in 2024.

You are the one that I can’t thank enough for. I stoped backpacking in the 90’s because I was enjoying my family and career. I retired in 2021. Not long after I had a triple bypass. The desire to get back into backpacking came to me while I was in the hospital. Within a year I was day hiking 3 to 4 times a week averaging 8 miles a hike. Finally in 2022 I started backpacking again. Your inspiring videos helped to motivate me and to teach me how to pack light and better ways of doing things. Doing so has allowed me to do what I love to do. Thank you and Happy New Year to you!

In 2023 I was sooo depressed at first as I live near Yosemite and snowmageddon would not let up. I had already arranged for a sabbatical to hike the John Muir and I knew that would not only be impossible for me, but most of the high country would not open as usually for most of the summer, which IS what happened. Instead I researched how I could get myself and my adult sons over to the AT which I have never been…and we did! Went to AT Trail Days, met YOU which was AWESOME and section hiked parts of the AT and other trail systems to make some loops. Planning for the John Muir again in 2024, but if weather doesn’t cooperate I have several backup hikes for yet another sabbatical. Glad you are re-inspired. You helped me learn as a newbie in my mid-50’s…now I’m 60.

Thank you for investing the time, energy, and passion into this channel. I'm not a thru hiker, but have been a backpacker and camper for nearly 40 years. Life had taken me away from backpacking for many years, despite being active with my sons in scouting (scoutmaster for 16 years). Watching your channel got me inspired to get back on the trail, and more importantly, invest that love and knowledge in my sons. I have 4 boys, 2 who are scouts (both Eagle Scouts) and 2 who are athletes. My youngest (athlete) is going backpacking with in a couple weeks as we return to Eagle Rock Loop in Arkansas (one of my favorite trails). I think all of us who've been with you for a while expected the hiatus would inspire you to return. I think you see the resilience of your subscriber base. You make great videos and your trail series have been some of my favorites. Glad to see you happy, inspired, and enjoying making content again. Looking forward to what 2024 has in store!

Happy New Year Darwin! 🎉 It’s such a nice surprise to see your channel back in my favorites feed again. Please check out the Superior Trail. Runs along Lake Superior in Minnesota. Largest body of freshwater in the world (inland sea) You could utilize all your skills, as you would find ice climbing, winter camping, and hiking all in one trail. The trail runs along Lake Superior so the view is always amazing. Good luck in 2024

I love that you're doing some travel stuff! if you haven't considered it yet, come to Hong Kong and hike the Maclehose Trail (100km), Lantau Trail (70km), Wilson Trail (78km) and Hong Kong Trail (50km). There's some great multi hikes to be done in HK!

Hello Darwin! Great tonearm from you again. Love the variety of videos you produce as well as the podcast. I was wondering if you were going to do more bike packing in 2024? I'm happy I watched your previous bike packing videos (I'm not much a bike person but love knowledge) as a few years ago my husband and I were camping near Big Bend NP to hike as many trails as we could, and there was a bike packer at a camp site near us. I was able to explain to him what that person was doing and how they were camping without a vehicle. Loved all the products you produced this year like with Sayer providing clean water and being able to see hikes all over the world. Can't wait to see what else you come up with. Rock climbing definitely killed some of the stoke for hiking and backpacking for me. Just funny how if you’re not climbing it’s a hike but if you are climbing it’s just the approach, ie the boring part before the really fun part. Wondering how it will feel for you. Cheers Darwin!
