2023 Western MN Steam Thresher's Reunion Steam School Part 1: Classroom/Pre-Op Procedures, & Sawmill

Hello all and welcome back! In this video, we attend STEAM SCHOOL that is put on by the Western Minnesota Steam Thresher's Reunion! I have wanted to do this program for over TWO DECADES, and I cannot thank the MSEA board, WMSTR volunteers and operators, and the instructors enough for their dedication. This video outlines day one of the course - Classroom activities, pre-operation checklists/procedures, and a demonstration of steam in action in the Briden-Roen sawmill! I have over 90 minutes of video - stay tuned for part two!

I agree. I was impressed with the amount of young people, and people in my age group (25-40) who were interested in this. A breath of fresh air!

Rollag! I enjoyed the walk through the show grounds early on Saturday morning. Quite peaceful and tranquil before it got busy. Looks like a good amount of participants at steam school. Good to see some younger folks getting involved too. Thanks for sharing, look forward to watching part two tomorrow as it is well past my bedtime. Steam on, buddy!🚜🚂

The class was a little over 70, I believe. That's promising! We had a great time and it is good to see so many people interested in getting into the hobby.

I agree. I was impressed by the amount of not only young people, but people who are well beyond retirement that were in the class! Never too old to stop learning!

So great to see that something like this exists, as far as I know, there isn't any institution over here teaching stuff like this. Teaching this is so important to keep and pas on valuable knowledge. Thanks for sharing!

Agree 100%. We have a variety of steam school venues throughout the U.S. Rollag is definitely one of the best!

Now this is just me, but when they were punching tubes, that looked like a good place to put a rack that you could put a rack of ribs and pork buttons a couple half chickens and use good hard woods for the fire, you could thresh all day and have pulled pork and rlbs at night, winner winner chicken dinner

We actually smoked a few hams in smoke boxes for the weekend pot-luck Sometimes we'll do it during the show too. --- One could not ask for a better group of leaders to educate you on the hobby. I went thru the class years ago.

Oh yes! We cooked 10 hams and went through over 50 lbs of potatoes to feed the group! It was DELICIOUS!
