We've learned a lot with our Solis over many trips and we absolutely love it! We'd love to hear your tips and feedback!
You folks asked about our gear so this is what we've purchased that we would definitely buy again. I left out the gear we didn't like. We may get a commission on these links. We purchased the Winnebago Solis and gear with our own money, we're not sponsored by anyone. Thanks for your support!

There are some YT videos that show how to run a short section of water hose down thru a hole in the floor that you drill right by the right rear door. Apparently, the Solis targets boondockers over folks who stay at RV parks.

Thank you for the detailed walk through from a different point of view. It helped me decide on which model van I'm considering purchasing. My major concerns were the murphy bed setup , very small dining table and how many features need the generator on. I like the floor plan , especially the extra 14" rear storage.
@roadstoke
@roadstoke 10 ай бұрын
Thank you Stacy for commenting! We're driving home in the Solis from a fly fishing trip now and we still enjoy our adventures in the van, still no regrets for our needs. Rather than use the generator all the time, we bought a Bluetti power station for our 110v needs (which we can also use in our Subaru or Bean camper trailer. At 6'2" tall the murphy bed is a bit tight for me, Tessa and I sleep head to toe and it's fine. Good luck shopping!

Excellent walk through! If you need to winterize where you live is that something you perform yourself? What do you do to maintain the house batteries in cold weather? Thanks in advance for addressing these questions.
@roadstoke
@roadstoke 10 ай бұрын
It gets into single digit temps here. We winterize the water system with antifreeze. I know some folks live full time in the Solis through cold winters but the heater would need to run daily in freezing temps or pipes will break. We use the winterized Solis occasionally in the winter but we use a 7gal water jug and we have a folding portable toilet with disposable bags. Great question!

Glad you are a taller guy, which offers a good perspective walking around with a ballcap. I am 6' 3.5" and understand going into a standard van will not be able to walk around fully standing. Thoughts/questions that you may be able to address: 1. Having the top up, overall, does it make the coach feel roomy to you (aside from the utility of sleeping up there)? I figured it could at least be a place where I could stand to get dressed. 2. The murphy bed work at all for me as a solo diagonal sleeper? Context, it appears floorplans with the "north to south" sleeping (i.e. Travato) may be the better fit but I need to experience. Thank you, I appreciate the details you discuss.
@roadstoke
@roadstoke Жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, great questions, I also struggled to find info on space for taller folks. I've slept in the Thors also. The north-to-south is nice, my feet still hang off but at least it's into a hallway so my feet are in the open. The Solis murphy bed is very comfortable for me alone laying diagonally at 6'2". With my 5'3" wife, it's a bit cramped but doable. At 6'4" you'd want to use the murphy bed alone. I'd place my pillow in the corner near the sink so my feet had some space out the rear cargo area and it would be nice. The pop top bed would be good for you, especially alone. I prefer the pop top for sleeping now.

Good points, a collapsible ladder could work very well there. We've gotten used to it. The rear bathroom layout is slick! For our use, we needed a lot of storage in the back for gear and the ability to slide surfboards and camping gear under the bed so this layout has exceeded expectations for us.

Great question. We did notice initially the cabin seemed a little noisy when driving, it hasn’t been a deal-breaker. We can chat without yelling. Both my wife and I each love driving it, I think it’s quite comfortable and enjoyable to drive as do all our renters. I’m 6’2” my wife 5’3”. I can’t compare to Ford or Mercedes, I haven’t driven those chassis recently. We were more annoyed by things rattling in the van all of which I’ve resolved over time. Hope that helps!

@roadstoke 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! There are mods out there where folks wire for and add a microwave in their Solis. We make a lot of sandwiches, fried eggs, pasta, cooked breakfasts, rice, and we boil water for hot drinks etc. For our style of cooking we don’t miss a microwave. I do think the fridge is sufficient for long trips but we bought a 12v Fridge Freezer for various adventures that we occasionally bring in the van… stored under the Murphy bed or in the rear gear garage.

Sorry to hear you're not getting heat working. Maybe you've worked it out in the last months I didn't respond. I have a sibling who never gets their Truma hot water to work after years of use. I don't 100% trust the Boost option under the sink. Nowadays, we turn on our hot water about 40min before a shower and we use the "HOT" setting. I'd love to hear if you've come up with any new solution...

Tips: Along with using the blue treatment, you can lock in the toilet smell by closing the toilet valve and then do a quick flush to add a shallow layer of water on top. The water makes a airtight seal until you open the valve again...

A lot of design needed to be learnt from Asian RV companies. Ex, they make twin beds and upper queen bed that can be adjusted by pull down or remote, on top of twin beds, so you can have 3 beds: 2 twins and a queen in the back of RV. In front, they even make the dinner table and can convert to a bed as well as a bunk bed above driver/passenger seats. They also have a dryer inside RV. Guess what class is their RV? You would be surprised.
@roadstoke

What class are they?! These sound like great features. I have to say the various mainstream builders like Winnie, Thor doesn't seem to come up with mindblowing designs and leave a lot of room for improvement. We still crave adventuring in the Solis every chance we get.

I can see it being a precarious choice given the $$ involved. I like the Class Bs for their mobility and simplicity (and relative simplicity to repair). I usually camp on free BLM. Our extended family has all of the above and something is broken and annoying for every brand out there!! lol.

Whats the tallest height person to comfortably sleep the pop top? And are you concerned of potential rain leaks thru the seal overtime?
@roadstoke
@roadstoke Ай бұрын
@@Gius_13 Good question, I’m 6’2” and the poptop is plenty long for me. It may be good up to 6’4” or more. In the Murphy bed, I do have to sleep diagonally. We have not had roof leak problems but some people report leaky roofs from manufacturing defects. We do live in very dry Utah so heavy rain isn’t an issue most of the time here.

Do you think it would be easy to swap out the table with another custom (more rectangular, slightly wider) one? The oval shaped table looks very small for a family to eat on together. Ideally, it would be longer for two people to work on. Also is there room for an awning with the pop top?
@roadstoke
@roadstoke 9 ай бұрын
Good questions Brian. I think a bigger, square table is very doable and I do wish it was bigger. You could steal the mount from the existing table. Possible cons to a square: 1. The round shape allows room to swivel the table to the window and lower the ladder but there’s certainly room for a bigger round shape. 2. A new shape may not fit behind the seat but you could build to spec. 3. The shape should also accommodate room for the ladder to come down. The pop top does not leave space to mount and awning from the roof ‘top’ but I can see potential custom fabrication to mount (bolt) to the top corner edge side wall. We don’t miss having an awning ourselves but they are popular!
@brianfulda
@brianfulda 9 ай бұрын
@@roadstoke Thanks so much for answering, super helpful. I think a longer table (maybe rectangular but with nice rounded edges) would be a big improvement. Good thought to make it still leave room for the ladder. I had another question - it sounds like you have two kids - how do you feel those two seats would hold up for a long (cross country) road trip for kids? I only ask because it's hard to get an idea of how comfortable they are and if two kids would have enough arm space since there's no divider or armrest between the seats.
@roadstoke
@roadstoke 9 ай бұрын
@@brianfulda I’ve sat in the back for many hours between stops and somehow it’s comfortable despite how it looks. Kids haven’t complained. If you’re shopping I do recommend renting one to see what you think and if it’s a fit, it’s a big depreciating asset to purchase!

Or if you're walking to your vehicle somebody's around it, look outside if it's parked outside your front door just to hit it just to set off the alarms to scare people away
