2 ай бұрынLast task of Freedom Open 2024. Despite the "impossible forecast" we have clocked 4 valid tasks. Thanks to Damiano we learned a lot about the local weather and how to read the next move of the few sunny spots we had to work on some of the days.
After task 2 and task 3 where I bombed out due to lack of discipline, there was really not much I could lose in this comp...
I had a super nice start, in the ideal position, with a nice group.
Further lack of discipline put me in a difficult situation, low over ground.
Eventually I climbed out of that but the rest of the flight was somehow out of balance and I could not catch up much.
Still a beautiful flight, with goal, with many things to learn about me, the area and my nice glider.

Hi. It’s quite simple: free software from dashware.net allows to overlay a GPS track for example in GPX format onto a video file…

Nobody's respecting VFR rules? Besides this telemetry is nice.

In competitions this is quite normal. Some comps have started to disqualify you when cloudflying but generally flying really close is normal. One problem is that paragliders cannot completely control their height or ascent speed. When in a comp everyone tries to get as high as possible and estimating distance is difficult too. The only hard and obvious disregard of vfr rules is when you enter a cloud everything else is super difficult to judge or get correct during a competition where everyone is pushing at the limit.

@@widezyp2228 As an IFR pilot I can't stress enough that you can once be in front of an aircraft. This is why you have to leave 300m from cloud base. Even a competition isn't worth your life.

Local airtraffic normaly knows a competition is happening. I have not heard of a single case where during a competition there is a really close call with an airplane. The number of pilots in the air also makes it quite obvious that the aircrafts have to be careful. Glad to see evidence to the contrary though if you know of a documented case! Its much more dangerous in my opinion whem doing xc alone and flying close to clouds. Also are airplanes allowed to IFR so close to the ground when not approaching an airport or leaving one and the sky has enough openings so tht cloud flying isn't necessary?

@@widezyp2228 just my thoughts. I have a video from the cockpit crossing of a few paragliders. In any cases it is not a matter of space. Would you drive on the other side of the road in the country because nobody there. Also some small vfr airplanes from airclubs don’t know the existence of competition and if they also do fly near the clouds boom.

@@theeyeinthecloud We fly in the clouds all the time, clouds are top of lift, we try to gain as much altitude as possible before start gliding to the next thermal, often we go in the clouds to keep climbing and leave higher and turn that altitude into distance
