Can you share how you put the flying info on the video ?

Hi. It’s quite simple: free software from dashware.net allows to overlay a GPS track for example in GPX format onto a video file…

What does bad levels mean?
@florinelzx6r11 күн бұрын
In competition there are 3 safety levels reported on the radio: level 1 when all is nice and safe for flying, level 2 when pilots become concerned of some danger (turbulence, incoming rain, increasing wind) and level 3’when is dangerous and unsafe to fly. In this task there were level 2 and 3 reported due to incoming rain shower, on the course line…
@martind559612 күн бұрын
That must be the only film of a competition task where I have only seen one other wing in the air 😊 Where were the other 118 pilots? 😂
@florinelzx6r11 күн бұрын
@@martind5596 haha… good observation. The day was windy and most of the pilots landed after the first glide towards the first turn point. Only 18 of us made goal me, getting stuck for a while… did not help to fly with the rest of the group.

arriving at the first mountain on the course line (spot the error that cost me good minutes!) maybe the best thermal is on the ridge ,so going out and then back is kinda waste of time like the uncut videos very much great work👍👍👍
@florinelzx6r29 күн бұрын
Exactly that! Nicely spotted. I thought I would be clever, joining the others, away from the mountain, thinking that a smoother climb would work faster… but there was no comparison with what thermals were peeling off right off the rock faces… and 3 minutes lost meant 300-400m under the guys that went straight to the right place…

1:04:22 A bit agresive on the cutting in but it went well. And yes I'm watching this stuff :)
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
I think that was one of the last turns before the start time... I made it a bit tighter as it would have been too far away to go round the whole circle, it was not to get an altitude advantage as we were all zeroing or even sinking a little... As long as the harmony of the gaggle is not disturbed and you keep a predictable trajectory, it's good. Once this harmony is disturbed... no worries, you will know immediately... in many different languages!

@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
Thank you for appreciating! It’s quite easy to have telemetrics as video overlay: use dashware, create a project where you use the video file from any camera and a GPS track as data source for overlay. I use the data from a Garmin Fenix, in gpx format. The only job is actually to sync the video with the track. Try it and let me know how did it go.
@ItsallgoodtogoАй бұрын
10:34 What an elegant centering of the thermal. Acurately judged the center of it from other pilots and you own input from flying in this genral area.
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
Thanks! In this kind of competitions I feel it’s actually easier to find the cores as everyone involved is very skilled and very hungry to climb the fastest…
@cedarsunshineАй бұрын
Thanks for the video. Could you possibly tell me what devices and apps you use to collect the data and the track record with task points of the racing for TELEMETRICS and how you edit it into the video?

Super.

Intense low save before start at 2:52
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
That's right! Kind of a silly and risky situation to be in. The day was working and I was reasonable confident that there will be lift close to terrain and actually on the left side of the takeoff (right side as I am approaching the mountain side) the terrain is dropping further 100m+ but, when I connect with lift I am already at or below the bomb-out landing zone so, in case I cannot find anything, a perfect flying day is finished even before starting. Luckily it was not the case, that day, and I am hopeful I learned something :).

Kanskje litt sliten etter så mange lange dager? Fort gjort å ta dårlige valg når en er sliten.
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
Very possible that was a factor as well. It was a nice daily routine with 12 hours of activity out of which 5-6 hours of flying but it was also taking its toll towards the end. Also, at this point, for me, it was not much to gain or to lose in this comp so I could as well try the impossible: push lower against the wind. About 50 of us with similar ideas ended on the ground within 1 square kilometers :(

Who was that in the tree at launch?
@florinelzx6rАй бұрын
Cannot remember the name but his story did not finish there: he recovered the glider, flew a part of the task and landed on an area with olive trees. He climbed on those trees to remove the glider and, apparently, you can be alergic of some substance that is on the leaves of the olive trees. He had an anaphylactic shock. Luckily the medics arrived just in time to save him. 5 more minutes and it could have been different outcome. What a day!

Mistakes cannot go unpunished… I made a beginner’s mistake right at the beginning of the task and lost then gaggle l. Then I flied superbly and caught some up but ended up deciding to go on my own path… and that was the long and slow way. Nevertheless, is was a good cross country flight until the meet director called and asked me to land :)
