2024 BMW 5 Series vs Old BMW 5 Series - G60 vs G30 Side by Side Comparison.
BMW 5 Series G60 vs G30 - the new, larger sedan vs the previous generation!
This is comparison side-by-side of the new G60 BMW 5 Series and the sedan it will replace, the G30 5 Series. The seventh-generation G30 was unveiled back in a little under seven years ago in 2016, and the blue example you see here is the facelift that debut in May 2020, the G60’s immediate predecessor.
BMW 5 series G30 is perfect in balancing elegance and sportiness, and plus the superb drive.
The length of the sedan of the eighth generation (G60) is 5060 mm, width - 1900 mm height - 1515 mm. The wheelbase has been increased by 20 mm to 2995 mm.
So, the new 5 Series (G60) is 97 mm longer and 32 mm wider than the G30. The new sedan is also 36 mm taller and its 2995 mm wheelbase is 20 mm longer, which means that most of the newly-added length goes into the overhangs.
It’s not just overall height that’s up, but the front fascia is now taller. Also, the 5 new Series escapes the huge nostrils that we see on bigger models like the 7 Series and X7.
The sides of the G60 appear cleaner (flush door handles too), but without the G30’s strong crease of a tornado line and “hockey stick” (replaced by a gentle upward curve) to break up the visual mass. So the side profile look a tad tall.
At the back, the traditional BMW sedan tail lamps on the G30 has been slimmed down to almost a straight line, as previewed by the latest G70 7 Series. Also like the Seven is the badging - big 5, small variant number. Speaking of that, the big ‘5’ on the “Hoffmeister kink” is a new cue. Lastly, no visible exhaust pipes even on the ICE model.
As for the new interior, it’s a big shift from the G30’s familiar cockpit (which looks really old in comparison), but with zero surprises. The conjoined wide screen layout is as per the new 7 Series, but note that the screen and centre stack is angled towards the driver, as opposed to being flat on the limo. Also, BMW’s longstanding joystick gear lever makes way for a stubby selector.

I thought so when they unveiled the new one, too. After comparing the two cars I am left undecided. I feel the rear of the new car is better-looking, even though I get Audi vibes. The front is another story, I love the G30 but there is something about the new car. I will reserve my judgment on the front until I see it in person.

G30 looks more like a classic 5 series ie. a business sedan , BUT this new iteration...i don’t even know what the f*ck is this, some kind of peugeot x skoda x camry symbiosis. Farewell Bmw 5, you will be missed.

At least BMW does make the previous models more attractive. Hopefully the prices will go up. The new 5 and M5 won’t be any faster than the F90 either. So… what’s the point of this model? BMW has been super disappointing lately. I’ve driven these cars since 2005 and I’m confident my F90 M5 Comp will be the last. So I will just maintain it until it hits 300-500k miles and love this baby as it should be loved.

Jeez, I'm glad I got my 2023! I've always preferred the 5 series design language to Mercedes or Audi but for the 1st time, I may be questioning that stance. Maybe it will grow on me?

As a G30 owner, I don't like the G60 exterior. The sporty look is gone and has made the G60 a car more for someone in their 60's or 70's in my opinion. Now the interior on the G60 on the other hand looks much better than the G30.

I own an M550i and was able to test drive an i5 M60 at the dealership yesterday, along with doing some side by side comparisons. Both vehicles are aesthetically pleasing--the M550i for its muscular stance and classic and thoughtful form that elevates each iteration before it and the i5 M60 for its clean and flush appearance while maintaining the essence of BMW and projecting its future aesthetic vision. I can't choose which one I like more aesthetically; however, in terms of driving, the M60 impressed me in every drive mode. Also, 2:18 shows a beautiful profile of the M60, but the video doesn’t do the real vehicle justice and 2:26 still shows the similarities and contrast of the two, both beautiful, vehicles. Many people are late adopters and many prefer that things don't change--but seeing the vehicle in gave me a new perepctive on BMW's logic to craft the vehicle in this way and seeing four people leave the dealership with their i5 M60 that day shows that it's liked.

let's be honest. if you asked me where the new generation is. I would choose g30. BMW is a huge step back. In addition to the large display in the middle, I did not see anything!

Just managed to secure from my local BMW dealership their last brand new G30-based 540i xdrive. I’m good for next 3-5 years at least, I hope.

The G30 looks beautiful. She is slim and elegant. The new model looks heavy. This is a big step back. But don't worry, there are so many brands to choose from. I'm definitely not considering the new model.

Looks nice but went to my dealer for a price and they wanted £8k down and £800 a month …. I don’t think so ! I’ll stick with my 2022 5 series which was £3k down and £489 a month . Just can’t warrant the massive price increase .

hello guys anyone has tried g30 both the pre-lci and lci(pre-facelift / facelift) model im looking to get one with B58 (40i) engine and the price difference is about 12k € is it worth to spend this extra money for facelift one? Btw im not asking about looks, i obviously have my own eyes and my own taste

i like the body line on the door handles of the old one and almost miss it on the new one but i gotta say the new one is not as bad as ppl been saying, i have only been seeing regular new 5 series in videos but i think the new m5 will look better than the old m5

The rear of the new one is much better, it looks awesome. The interior is also perfectly designed and not comparable to the old one. The front is the only thing I’m not comfortable with.. maybe time will change this opinion

Car design has reached its pinnacle, and that was reached some years ago. Most newer versions of a car would look better than the previous generation, not anymore.

Every time I see the new big screen in 5er and 3er I smell subscription scammers. That's the actual reason why they removed the physical buttons - to force you to pay for heated seats and the like. I can forgive enormous grille or Windows 2000 design but not subscription model.

@@WaveManMike I was referring especially to the frontal overhang. For no apparent reason all BMW's have long noses now. I think the rear overhang even shrank a bit so you do have actually less space in the trunk now.

I heard BMW is going to stick a Hybrid into the M5. And its a bad Idea. Hybrids are great heck I like the NC1 NSX, Revuelto and the 918 Hybrid but a Hybrid in an M5 is just sacrificial. I hope they dont add the hybrid in the M5.

Ive just bought a G30 and what a car. The digital display looks weird and makes it feel like driving a PC. Who are they now targeting ? Im 50 plus and would not buy the new one. I want a drivers car that looks like one, its too so called modern. Games on a 5 series, what the hell ? Im 58 not 5 to 8 years old!

Buy the 5 series you have all the driving fun but you give up the looks, interior and media. Buy the E Class you give up driving experience but have the best interior and infotainment. BMW is designed for the driver and E Class is designed for the passenger. I have both

The new five is probably the worst looking 5 series to date in my opinion. All the previous had character in their own way.... new one just looks boring... no heart and soul. Can just picture it next to the wardrobes in IKEA and it still wouldn't stand out. Think they've gone backwards since the F10.

These traditional sedan designs are just not going to cut it with sales. Automakers wanna do something new to keep new customers. Brand snobs are either going to have to find something else to like or just accept that sedans are having to evolve or else.
