Politics aside, we should all be thankful that CF Moto are bringing these fantastic motorcycles to market, with any other badge on the tank and this calibre of bike simply wouldn’t exist from the big four. Hopefully this will raise the bar for all. Thanks Mark for another excellent review.

Apart from the 500cc range from Honda! Unfortunately we do have to pay for known quality and dependable engineering. Factor in the better trade in value of the Hondas, and I suspect you'll be financially better off in the end. As a commuter who changes bikes at 15000 miles, my cb500 bikes make most sense. Fun to ride too!

I enjoyed your review of what seems to be one heck of a bike for the money! No wonder these smaller (to me) capacity machines are becoming more common on our roads and at bike meets...I will be interested to see a test-ride on the 'C' if you can arrange it. P.S. Props to Poole Moto for their continued support with letting you test-ride so many of their bikes.

I bought the bike just because when I first looked at it, it reminded me so much of the two stroke Aprilia RS 250 I used to own and love back in the day. I have enjoyed it a lot even though it’s a little bit slow and underpowered, but has not given me any issues despite the relative abuse I have subjected it to. It sounds amazing and is truly good looking. One thing I don’t like about it though is the windshield is a joke, makes me wonder if these Chinese folks know what it is for, aside of looks.

Thanks Mark. The CFMoto really know how to execute a great bike for value. What is now apparent is that CFMoto do allot of wind tunnel testing before moving ahead with a design. All of their bikes are stable on the highway at speed. They have managed to keep all the lift angles generating downward force, so the their bikes don't get blown around at speed. This is a really smart move on their part by making that a priority. If their bikes are not stable they become less useful and less desired... no longevity in the market place. I must say that in spite of their great execution of this bike, I really don't understand this segment of the market in this displacement size. Sport bikes are designed to be very fast and stable at speed. This mimics that but doesn't really have true sport bike speed given the small displacement engine. It's kind of like a make believe sports bike for beginners. Well, I guess you need to start somewhere. For me, the sports bike segment is of little interest. But the naked bike segment for sports riding and longer distance cruising makes allot of sense to me. And this size displacement fits right in on the lower end of that segment. By the way, will you be doing a CFMoto 800NK review any time soon? That is a very interesting bike for the value. It really outperforms the MT07 imo. It's got the suspension, exhaust sound, and cruise control, the MT07 doesn't have, as well as more power for almost the same value. Gord

@gorrdd
@gorrdd 17 күн бұрын
@@markpulling12 My only gripe with this new model is that they didn't take the time to add lift control. This is a strategic error in my opinion. Most of the people interested in the 800 want the ability to lift the front wheel. As it is, CFMoto have used torque management to prevent that rather than allowed for lift control. They just shot themselves in the foot in this market by doing that. Granted, you have to have a way of selecting the amount of lift intervention for less experienced riders. But failing to address this has killed their introductory sales potential... once word of this gets around. After all, there is no point in offering 100 hp with 50 ft/lb of torque if you are going to negate it with torque management. Especially when the real target market is advanced riders. They should have introduced it with the full suite of stabilization features under an IMU. But they clearly want more money for that improvement and couldn't do it based upon the introductory price point they targeted. So what did they do? They punted. That's a rookie error in this business, imo. After shooting themselves in the foot on this model, I hope they can learn to hobble effectively. I'm trying to figure out the discussions they must have had in coming to this conclusion. I get it... with this light of a bike and that much power and torque... they had to have a safety feature so people don't end up flipping the bike the first time they screw up. But the resolution was a complete compromise to the platform. Booomm... foot lose but not fancy free. I have the feeling they already have an IMU with a lift sensor that manages torque, but they aren't saying that. How else can they safely deploy such a machine. Slide control is still an issue as well. The reason they aren't offering it now is because they want to introduce it later at a different price point. They didn't cut corners on their fabrication... so why did they do that on their functionality? Very strange management decisions. The side that was afraid of bad press for being a dangerous bike won out over the side afraid of bad press for being a compromised bike. Look... you can't offer this kind of performance on a budget. It must come at a cost. The 800NK is a very capable bike but will not interest those who can manage it's full performance potential. They will pay another $1- $2 K more and get an MT09. End of story... The induction of the new 450 and 800 class bikes was clearly very strategic. They got it completely right with the 450 which appears to have better performance than their 650. But the 800 they flipped because they weren't willing to introduce it at a higher price point with all the safety features. Especially as the more capable 2023 Yamaha MT09's are now being heavily discounted. So CFMoto could see that and did a bait and switch number. It's the dealers who will get screwed as they end up holding on to stock that doesn't move quickly enough. And then have to do steep discounts when the next model year comes around. That's what happened with Yamaha dealers the past year. They're now having to sell their older inventory of 2023 MT09's at cost or under cost. Gord

@gorrdd 9 күн бұрын
Hi Mark, I did some further review and investigation on the 800nk and it seems that there is allot of agreement in the UK with the dealers there pushing CFMoto to add traction control on next years model. Nevertheless, it seems like a great bike just the same. It does need the quickshifter and fork stabilizer accessories to really perform to expectation. There is also some indication that the fueling at lower speeds is a bit uneven. And CFMoto have already indicated that they will be fixing that. CFMoto have had some reliability issues with their CLX 700 models and their earlier 650nk is way to heavy at 440+ lbs curb weight. The 800nk is only 410 lbs, which is excellent. This is apparently the replacement for the 650nk. They really are responding very quickly to the market place... but have made a few bo-bo's along the way. I think their reliability will be the thing that either makes or breaks them going forward. And the class is still out in that one, based upon some of onboard electronics issues they have had. Some of the software was not completely debugged, resulting in the ECU not knowing what gear you are in and shutting down cruise control. But these are relatively minor issues on the surface of the value. The problem is they can't afford those mistakes at this stage because of the bad rep Chinese products have received in the past. Gord

In addition, Mark... there appears to be some real issues with the mapping of the 800nk. People who have tested this against the KTM 790 Duke, with the same engine, say that the mid range acceleration of the 800nk is sluggish compared with the 790 Duke. Indeed, the same observation was made between the 800mt and 800nk. It appears they are either introducing this as a naked tourer or they were rushed to complete the project and compromised the performance. The thing with the tourer concept is that it doesn't have sufficient seat padding to fulfill that role. My gut says they did a rush job. Better to wait for the next model year to see if these things are addressed. Gord

@johnrocker2986 Which bmw? 90% of bikes will depreciate the moment you ride it out of the forecourt... Bike prices are gotten stupidly expensive these days, a big reason is due to the finance industry. Not many will or have 20k spare. So a pcp, 3+ year contract, small deposit, and low affordable monthly payments is what sells... so that's why they're taking the piss out of customers as they know that's what most can only afford... which ultimately keeps residuals better for bmw.. I'd say they're to best to hold value... but other than your obvious classics, which have shot up value, there's only the H2 tbat has increased in value... and that's was the 'standard' model.
