Installed my belt drive on the weekend - I work alone and its straightforward enough. I didn't remove the exhausts but did unbolt the shocks. It is possible to remove and refit the rear wheel just on the center stand but a bike lifter would be a good investment. Pretty easy to remove and refit the swingarm. Refitting the wheel on the other hand - arrghh. I would recommend a rattle gun for anyone working alone. I couldn't get the front sprocket bolt to budge with a 600mm long breaker bar. Impact gun - 10seconds and safer. Working alone getting the tension right was a challenge. I set the tension at 21mm with the bike on the center stand with the rear wheel off the ground shocks installed (based off the other installation video). Then with the shocks off you can the lift and chock the rear wheel to simulate the loaded bike - if you aim for a pretension of 25% loaded then the shock will compress approx. 15mm (YSS shocks) when you are sitting on the bike. So I simply raised the swingarm 15mm from its static unloaded position and checked the tension again. The bike is noticeably smoother to ride. I have found I need to shift down a little earlier than with the chain due to the higher gearing. But otherwise its great

@robertstraghan9009 Ай бұрын
While I applaud your ingenuity, however using 21mm unloaded as a base measurement will not yield the correct result. I really recommend that you verify proper tension as Teacher T shows, as proper belt alignment and tension is important for system life. You must have the higher gearing option - Teacher T has this as well

Great effort. To do this on your own I must applaud. Hopefully soon you will notice the improved fuel economy also from the higher geared pulleys. I was 26kpl, now achieving 28 kpl but still checking over time 🙏

Not torqued until completion. The rear hub sits on the rubber cushions only until torqued then the pulley will align with the bearings 🙏

I'm really surprised how well priced the kit is. Wondering what's the benefit of changing the front sprocket to the 38 tooth.

Ahhhh. Not the front sprocket, but the rear one. It lowers the engine revs at top speed, and has pushed my kpl from 26 to 28kpl 🙏

Excellent presentation. Cleaver use of the center stand to hold the tensioning tool. How many miles did you have on your chain? Think that when I do this conversion, I will go ahead and remove the swingarm. No better time to inspect and grease the bearings.

Thank you. Only 7,000 km on the chain. About 4,300 miles. I hear UK riders are changing them at 7,000 miles. The Sing arm is very easy to remove and replace, compared to the rear wheel. Good luck with it all 🙏

Having adjusted Harley and Indian belts for years, it’s much easier to set the tension with the rear wheel off the ground and no rider on bike. So, if you raise your bike’s rear wheel off the ground, apply 10 lbs of force with the gauge, what amount of deflection is shown? If you’ll post that number, it would allow others to set their belt tension without having to have a second person sitting on the bike.
@Teacher-T-Thailand
@Teacher-T-Thailand Ай бұрын
It’s easier sure, but it doesn’t take into account people’s different preload settings on their suspension, after market suspension, or their weight. So the first time it must be done on the ground with the rider or someone of similar weight to the rider sat on the ground. Once set correct,y, then yes I suppose you can get a second reading on the centre stand and remember it, but that is an unknown figure for different individuals. 🙏

My HD manual specifies checking the belt on the side stand, at ambient temperature. Others choose to tension the belt with Rider, as being more appropriate to check tension in loaded condition. Either way works, as long as the Gates formula is applied. Earlier RSTech instructions gave both calculations, but it was creating more confusion that helping and more than one Rider had the belt too lose.

Hi Trevor, I've ordered a belt kit, from RS Tech, for my Super Méteor, it should arrive in France in the next couple of weeks. The spoilsports at my RE dealer said 'officially' that fitting it would invalidate the warranty, but 'unofficially' they are really looking forward to fitting it, and seeing how I get on with it. I look forward to seeing your rideout review. Merci 😊

Could you please advise if there is a slot available in the middle of the bike for mounting a footpeg, given that it is a forward control?
@Teacher-T-Thailand
@Teacher-T-Thailand 27 күн бұрын
Yes there is. Easy enough to put a mid peg, but not easy to move the gearing or braking controls. A popular mod with some when riding on open roads. Just move your feet to forward pegs when needed. Not advisable for safety, but possible 🙏

@@uweyaa This is not for off-road applications, so one needs to question the purpose of the guard - In the case of a chain, is it to keep the chain from flinging oil all over you and the bike? Or in the case of a belt/chain, to keep your fingers out of the rotating chain or belt? If the reason for a guard, is to keep out rocks, is not an L shaped guard more of a rock trap than a shield? Unless the guard is fully enclosed (impossible with an endless belt unless a 2 piece guard) a rock can get trapped in the guard, increasing any potential risk; and why I removed my guard; thinking that any rock will get flung out. So is the guard to keep out rocks, or a mandated safety regulation to keep out fingers and bits of clothing? Yes s**t happens, but 160,000 km on the last Harley belt, while living at the end of a 1 km long gravel drive, and pretty sure I might have gone through some roadworks. I and the other Riders that have covered millions of km, cannot be simply that lucky, and the belt drive has stood the test of time

Teacher T, what is the length of the rear shock absorbers of the meteor 350? and can they be used on the super meteor?
@Teacher-T-Thailand
@Teacher-T-Thailand Ай бұрын
The standard Meteor 350 rear shock length is 320mm, where the Standard on the Meteor 650 is 310mm. The 350 original shocks have a bad reputation also. I doubt they would be strong enough to support the extra weight of the Meteor 650.

@@simonshylla9739 Sorry to hear that, I know you can get Honda wave after market shocks here in Thailand. Very cheap and an option to buy them at 290mm. I’m tempered to buy a set myself and compare them against the Hagons Fittings look the same. 🙏
