We review the new 2024 Honda CRV Sport Hybrid, one of the best-selling SUVs on the market. While there are unlimited options, we help point out why the CR-V is one of the better choices to test drive. This car competes with the Mazda CX5, CX50, Toyota RAV4, VW Tiguan, Ford Bronco, and Subaru Outback.

I had a 2017 CRV then I bought the Sport Touring in May. It's feels like a class above the last gen. It does everything i ask it to. I avg, 36-40 in city driving. Took 2 back-to-back 500 miles trips shortly after purchase and got 28 mpg w/ the cruise set at 80. Seats are great for an all-day trip. No need to have any reservations about your purchase.

I purchased this same trim, coming from owning BMWs for years and sick of the cost of ownership and reliability issues. Yes, this is not a BMW, not even close in terms of the driving dynamics. However, the trade off to me is worth it. Mark nailed it-this just does everything well as a practical vehicle. Super happy with it.

As someone who currently owns a BMW, and is looking at buying a $1500 clutch with the possibility of also needing to buy a $1500 dual-mass flywheel, it's heartening to hear that reliability and practicality can make up for the lack of driving excitement. I'm closer to 40 than I am to 30 now, so the CR-V seems like an intelligent reverse-midlife-crisis vehicle.

I test drove a CR-V Sport L Hybrid a few weeks ago and didn't noticed how dark the interior was until I sat inside. The seats, side posts and ceiling are all black. It made me feel a bit claustrophobic and depressed. You have to get the highest trim, (the Sport Touring), before having the option of a gray interior. At that point, the car is well over $40K. Imagine how you would feel if your living room floors, walls and ceiling were all painted black! That's what I felt. Oddly enough, the videos can't fully convey this.

Uhhhh, the 3 series is one of the best cruisers for the city and highway imaginable. Quiet, fast, easy to park, good mileage (the new ones anyways), good handling, RWD and decent space (far more than decent if you have a wagon). It has everything. I'd suggest a sunday car should be something that is truly fun and probably very impractical: S2000, Hellcat/Horsepower car, old Jeep with no roof, vintage muscle, motorbike, RX7, MGB or something in that vein. Of course maybe your 3 series is modded track car or something, but most 3ers are the perfect commuter cars.

I honestly will say the 2023-24 remodel looks so darn good compared to my 2021. I bought this car to be boring on purpose. I was tired if driving cramped, severely under powered compact sedans/ hatchbacks. Im 29 no spouse or kids. I just wanted comfort because I'm basically an old soul. I wanted room for friends/ and family, room for road trips, room for the occasional Ikea run. It completes my basic average lifestyle without breaking budget and for that I absolutely love Honda for this vehicle.

I bought nearly the identical model to the one you guys have, about a month ago. Have 3100 miles on it. My job requires me to drive about a thousand miles a week so I spend an inordinate amount of time driving and I have to say, between the seat and the driver assist features, the miles just melt away. So effortless to drive hundreds of miles a day. The sport mode can be a legit amount of fun and livens up an otherwise sedate driving experience. I’ve seen up to 45 MPG and I get about 500 miles to a tank. Filled up my tank with the gauge cluster telling me I had 5 miles left to go; only put a bit over 12 gallons in it (14 gal tank) so I still had over 60 miles of range. Could push a tank to 550 I think without much issue. Great vehicle that I will be keeping for the next several years

Big time Honda fan boy. I have owned a Civic, Accord's, Odyssey and CRV'S over the years all new. We still have our 2017 CRV touring. Last April we purchased a 2023 CRV Sport Hybrid. It is definitely a step up from the 2017. I have only one gripe that i wont let Honda off the hook for. In 2022 they did not include a spare tire when retrofitting the 5th gen Honda to a Hybrid saying they couldn't fit it in because it was the older platform. Now, with a total redesigned 6th generation vehicle they still did not include a spare. LOVE the car, but if Toyota can put a spare tire in a Hybrid, so can you Honda. See ya on the road. 😊

I felt the same way. I sat in one I wasn’t excited or thrilled but thought very practical. I also didn’t feel crammed in there and great cargo space with some adaptability. Wasn’t thrilled hybrid has no spare tire but they said the run flat was good. I’m still shopping but for the price point, this is what I’ll most likely get. I can’t justify buying a more exciting suv for double the price when they’ll both last same amount of time. I tend to drive my cars as long as I can. I have a 20 year old Honda Element with 300k mileage and still runs like new with some little quirks that come with age and mileage. I’m use to practical, adaptable, and space with good gas mileage.

I’ve owned several generations of CRV’s & sometimes the new iteration loses features: 1. No spare tire (in an SUV?) All the CRVs I have owned had flat tires at some point in time. It was ALWAYS lifesaving to have a spare. 2. No self folding rear seats- my 2012 CRV can self fold the rear seats at the pull of a handle. This was great! 3. No fog lights- I have also found this useful in getting less tunnel vision in areas that were dark, with no street lights. It’s useful seeing where the edge of the road is, a safety issue. 4. No Honda picnic table- It was just so cool to whip that out that made people’s eyes large- a surprise wow factor. Evolution is not a straight line. Sort of like Microsoft products.

I don't even care that much about this CR-V tbh. What I really want is for Honda to either make a 1.5T or 2.0 Hybrid HR-V. That vehicle is "just right" sized and looks amazing. It's just completely nerfed by its sole 2.0L NA engine option.

this hybrid powertrain is completely new in the Accord and CRV this year. Quite a test market to gamble with. Assuming no major issues I would expect same design but maybe slightly smaller engine to be in Civic & HRV soon (notice no Civic Hybrid or Insight right now ?!?) and probably a larger engine version for Pilot/Ridgeline/Odyssey soon also.

Does the hybrid Atkinson 2.0L engine have the direct injection only without the port ingestion? If this is the case, it will have carbon build up and very difficult to decarbonise the intake valves.

I know manufacturers are bent on sending absolutely loaded vehicles as media testers, but it's always good to remember the low end of the spectrum. You guys occasionally do a good job of suggesting those. The CR-V LX FWD starts at $29,500; $30,825 after destination. It seems like a lot of car for that price. I wonder if a Car and Driver style "which trim to buy" blurb would be a good thing to have on videos of these commodity cars that are offered in several trims.

In the CR-V EX for the conventional gas engine, Sport for the Hybrid. Both get power adjustable, heated, cloth seats, and a sunroof. With no ventilated seats available on the higher trims with leather, I'd stay with the cooler cloth seats for summer. AFAIK a dealer installed Honda heated steering wheel can be added for about $500. Honda needs to ditch the Touring trim across the board and just bump everything up to Elite when you go above EX-L / Sport-L.

If at all possible, I think bumping up the budget to the hybrid sport (the base sport) would be the best value if you drive enough miles yearly and plan to keep the car a long time. Depending on fuel prices in your area, the MPG would make up for it. Also, the additional features and slightly sportier looks are a decent value all things considered.

I care a LOT about driving, have been in Hondas and Acuras for 40 years, as well as Audi, BMW, and Porsche. My wife just bought a CR-V Sport Hybrid, replacing the TSX wagon we'd been driving for over 10 years, and she is very happy and I love driving it. We were originally (in the winter in WI) getting mid-30's mpg and were disappointed. Over the summer it's been mid-40's mpg and we are no longer disappointed. You have to clear your mind of typical motoring preconceptions when you drive the CR-V hybrid. There is no connection between engine speed and road speed, and if you can let that go and just focus on enjoying getting from point A to point B, it works very well.

Euro market gets 360 camera, ventilated seats, heads up display, adaptive headlights, parking assist, push button gear selector, power folding and reverse dipping mirrors. Asia market also has active cornering lamps in the headlight housings, led fog lamps front and rear, fully digital driver information screen (we have only half). That's a lot of corner cutting by Honda in a $40k US vehicle just because Acura exists...
