Ford’s Bronco has done wonders for the Wrangler. Not the sales numbers of course, a reasonable number of shoppers have chosen the Bronco over the last few years, but for making the Jeep better. 2024 brings an exterior refresh and some fairly major changes to the most popular dedicated off-road-trip in America. This is the first time Jeep’s iconic model has ever had power seats, 4 way lumbar, side curtain airbags, full float axles, and more. Jeep’s popular 4xe plug in hybrid has also gained a helpful tweak in the form of a 3.6 kW AC breakout box so you can power anything from a laptop to a window air conditioning in your camper. And that camper can be larger than before with up to 5000 pounds of towing capability. Thankfully the rumors of the V8’s demise we’re overblown, the 392 lives on for at least another year.

As a fully loaded Rubicon 4xe owner, I was loving the new upgrades until I saw the price of the X. In 3 years it has gone up 15k and I just can't afford the brand anymore. I am looking forward to the new 4runner.

@@joezephyr I probably won't now. I would have liked all the upgrades on the 4xe. They are quite nice, except power seat that isn't needed. It has given me a few issues and rides like a Wrangler ;) so if I am going to swap it out it would be for a Toyota. I have wheeled with 4Runners and they are incredibly capable. They would be at the top of my list. Another thing, sleeping inside of a 4xe isn't very easy due to the battery and smaller size.

@@Natethegreat200c I had the battery heater module go bad and it forced it into gas mode, then to the dealer to get it replaced under warranty. I had a charge circuit go bad when I was 20 miles off road and required a 150 mile tow to a dealer because the vehicle refused to start. This was all before I had got to 17k miles. And yah I hear you. There are things I absolutely love about my Wrangler which is why I would like to upgrade to the new one, but I can't. I love the community. So if this continues to give me issues I'll be looking elsewhere instead of in brand, which should be a red flag to Jeep but I don't think they care. The service and sales experience with them hasn't been great, same with the Fords we've owned. I've owned every major brand in my years. In my own personal experience the only brand that has stood out has been Lexus and then Toyota. Yours may be totally different.

Some manufacturers now have standard LED headlights throughout their line up. LEDS just offer superior visibility.

I'm very impressed with your review! You have articulated points about the vehicle that are not just part of the marketing package. As a Rubicon 4xe owner, I appreciate the accurate talking points, like that it must be running in hybrid ICE+electric mode to get the most power out. The low end is also very twitchy with clutches and no torque converter. Good job.

@@AAutoBuyersGuide savagese and engineering explained did a video on direct injection problems, i think its worth spreading that warning with a video of its own. another video series could be making a momentum preservation sort of manual steer car for miles per gallon and reliability, maybe keep things fiarly easy to replicate , or go more extreme like swapping the toyota prius drivetrain into honda insight then adding a plastic transparent front end for areoydnamics and a tail like thinkflight did on his subaru

I have a 1999 TJ. A newer jeep wrangler parked next to me at work, made my jeep look so tiny. Not yet convinced I am ready to upgrade.

I would keep the TJ. Especially if you are able or like to work on your own vehicles. There is the safety aspect though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Great review. Love seeing ur reviews. With the jeep wrangler everyone for most part wants bigger tires and maybe lifted depending on rgeir situation. However you need to get the right motor under the hood to accommodate for now pushing big tires. Knowone wants their mpg to plummet specifically if u use a jeep on road and off road.

Alex, Maybe you should shoot all your reviews against a background of red rocks as this one really 'pops'. 🤩 If they can be bothered to do so, Toyota can utilize their global portfolio to bring a full selection of locking differentials, manual transmissions, solid axles and 2 door 4X4s to North America to compete with Wrangler and Bronco across a broader swath of the SUV market. We will learn the answer to that question over the next 12-18 months as the new Land Cruiser and 4Runner debut. 🤔

Great point regarding the narrowness and towing. Surprised Mopar hasn’t come out with a truck mirrors option to extend those out further to account for the difference.

I just rented a Wrangler 4xe for a week of alpine fun and i can totally relate to the torque jumpiness at low speed. I was a bit disappointed with the 4xe efficiency but i love the silent creeping on a rock trail.

@@daweed980 fully charged, the display shows 32 miles of electric range. However those numbers go down FAST when you’re on the rocky trails. On flat roads the most i got out of it was 20 miles of pure EV. As for hybrid mode, the 4xe got 19-21 mpg.

Already own a jku rubi. If bronco has a phev id be grabbing that for overlanding and using the wrangler for rock crawling or tight trails.

Starting July 1st the 4xe qualifies for Colorado's $5000 EV tax credit. Add that to the $7500 federal tax credit and you can get a reasonable discount on these things. Jeep already has a lease deal that incorporates the $7500 tax credit so you don't have to wait to file your taxes. I'm guessing the local dealers will soon add the Colorado tax credit as well.

Jeep should have put in Nema 5-20, 120 volt, and 20 amp plugs to run any 120-volt appliances. Like you said, a 240-volt plug would be nice for job sites or home power outages and boondocking with a larger RV to power it. Jeep needs to double the battery size or larger to get a minimum of 50 miles driving.

Is there any talk about actually selling the manual? Currently manuals have an open recall with no current fix. Therefore I don’t think they are allowed to be sold? If they are, there aren’t any around me. There are usually 1 or 2 within ~250 miles.

On the Jeep Wrangler, the windshield folds down, while on the Ford Bronco, doors are removable but still driveable on the roads because the side mirrors are intact (and I've seen someone drive a new Ford Bronco with no front doors and the driver's left leg sticking out of the vehicle, like he's relaxing). I wonder what gimmick the new Toyota 4Runner will bring to the party?

The windshield does not fold down on power top model , I bought the convertible option for $3999.00 then I found out it doesn’t fold down , it’s not the end of the world but the power top changes the shape of the jeep , you can take the rear windows out but not the top

Good review but I'm keeping my 2021 4Runner OR for like ever! I prefer a closed top without even a sun roof. I am 60 so I bet it will last me until my demise. I am in AK so YMMV.

17 mpg in the 392 isn’t that bad considering what it is. I’m used to how Teslas accelerate, but that Wrangler 392 is more fun to launch because the squishy suspension makes it feel like it’s doing a wheelie.

Great review!! Thorough and very informative. Do you know if one can get the automatic transmission on the 6 cylinder engine in non Rubicon trims? somehow the JEEP site does not allow that configuration. I.e. a 2024 Willy's with the pentastar and auto tranny not an available online config... I have driven several 2.0 models and the engine sound is not "pleasing" - I'll behave and leave the 2.0 comment at that :)

No 2.0/manual and no 3.6/auto unless it's a Rubi. It was easy for me because once I test drove a 2.0 I decided there is no way I'd buy one and since I am old school and believe all _real jeeps_ have 2 doors and a manual transmission...the 3.6 was the only option left anyway.

@@user-yg7rj7kn9x Most people don't care about how a vehicle sounds and most stock exhaust try to make them as quiet as possible anyway. I have already picked out the exhaust for my new Jeep. Flowmaster Outlaw setup that dumps in front of the rear axle. It's gonna be LOUD and I can't wait. The 2.0 will never sound so good.

Excellent video. So sad though. Reliability still has not improved. Had to sell 18" S with 25k miles do to electrical issues and no fix for recall on 6 speed manual. Always concerned if I got caught in traffic trans would overheat and have driven stick for 30 years with no issues on other cars. I am done with Jeep until they improve reliability.

I have a 2024 2 door on order with a manual trans, if the factory clutch acts up I'll just put an aftermarket in it and be done with it. A couple of companies have figured out solutions and can get you fixed up now. Which honestly factory clutches usually aren't all that great anyway. Although the stock clutch in my Renegade is still holding up after nearly 130k and I beat on it like a red-headed stepchild so who knows. Electrical...eh...all new cars suck in that regard. Seen all kinds of issues across the board with that and even more so since 2020.

Yeah, PCM issues with intermittent faults. Really sucked. Priced out built tyranny and install was $3500 out the door which I seriously considered. Lifetime tranny.

I've owned my Wrangler Sahara 4xe for a year now. Haven't had a single issue. All I've done so far is change the oil and rotate the tires.

Friends, does anyone know if this is true or not? That before 2016 Pentastar 3.6 was problematic and was not reliable and not durable and also had less resources. (It had a low lifespan) However, since 2016, they say that it was fixed and now it is a new and good motor. Is this true or not??

I have the 3.2L variant of the Pentastar in my 2015 Jeep Cherokee. Haven't had a single issue with the motor.

Refined? How about compromise. You want a 6 cylinder 3.6 L with automatic transmission? You need to go with the Rubicon, otherwise you're stuck with a 4 cylinder 2.0 L humming bird engine if you want the automatic. You want the color that used to be free? not anymore because corporate Jeep are crooks. You want an exterior that's a little different than your old Jeep....nope not for you, unless you go for the Willys or Rubicon. Jeep, it's all about compromise and limited choices. . Unfortunately I have to drop Jeep after 13 years and owning a few jeeps. I don't need or want the Rubicon at this time for my simple dirt roads and trails.Thank you Bronco for upping your game. We now have a few options.

It is regrettable that the current mess prevented us from getting the Bremach 4x4/UAZ Patriot. That would have given this some real competition. Disclaimer- I ordered one of those in November is 2021 🤦🏼‍♂️

No Jeep Wrangler 4xe for me. We are getting electric vehicles crammed down our throats, especially in California. I would like a Rubicon with a 392 20th Anniversary edition. The problem is that they are as rare as hen's teeth. Alex, thank you for such an in-depth review of the 2024 Wrangler. A light color for the sliding top would be nice in hot climates. The test trail is a joke. They need to show some serious off-road driving trails with seasoned drivers to really show what the Jeep is capable of.

@@tooncesdcat6216 Except the Bronco is very close in off road performance and on road performance, safety (it doesn’t tip over on a frontal crash test), feature content, interior design etc the Bronco is significantly better, I would take it any day over a Wrangler.

@@Avidav Lol like the Jeep Wrangler is known for reliability and good build quality. Literally the lowest rated overall car on Consumer Reports. The interior sucks too. Also, the 4runner is ancient, modern amenities practically don’t exist on that thing, every “new” feature it has was tacked on and implemented horribly, the adaptive cruise control has so many operating limitations it might as well not be there, off roads the worst out of the Bronco and Wrangler, rides awful, gets awful gas mileage too. The Bronco is better than both.

2024 Jeep Rubicon is wayyyy over priced. Some nice features but the 4Xe plug in hybrid is way too complicated for me to take into the High Sierras where I wheel and live. I will stick with my 2005 Rubicon Unlimited, the Jeep dealers here on the west coast have a ton of inventory and not sure who Jeep thinks their current customer base is?

did anyone else hear him say @ around 20:15 that a locker will send the power to a single wheel? Lockers don't work that way.. they always send power to both wheels even if one doesn't have traction.

Obviously, not everyone witll get the jeep they want, because tbey are too expensive. Now, how does the federal tax works? What matters to me is how much am i going to lay OTD on the spot and I cant do more than $50k. The willus got my attention l, because it finally got a rear locker and 33" tires. I would of prefer a smaller screen, but standard LED headlights.

The 4xe is a good attempt at a hybrid option.. HOWEVER, the fuel economy is absolutely abysmal. 22 Miles of EV range is a sip, and after that your lugging around a much heavier vehicle without engine efficiency to match. Given the price tag over the non plugin in version, I dont think these are worth getting. Not to mention the quality issues with them. I doubt the 2024 is going to fix any of these. But you do you... if this vehicle was 22 miles of EV range and still got 35+ MPG combined it would be an amazing value. Its overpriced for what it is

Comically large ev chargers, 15 hour charge time and 21 whole miles of range on electric and only a 4 mpg fuel loss over a regular gas engine. If you buy the 4xe it should come with a free helmet.

15 hours to charge ? Seriously? Now u lost me. Totally. I was in , until you told me that. Mitsubishi takes 40 Min and it can run my home reverse generate.when we have blackouts.yes it's nothing like this agreed , my point is it's not that much of a bigger deal to put an extra plug in for fast charge. Is it ? Love the extension lead that's practical.. fast charge please.

@@scf685 no I didn't explaine in full,, it has both , normal and fast which makes a lot of sense to me. It does not have a spare wheel , I live in South Africa and having a flat tyre on the side of the road could be ones demise , which is why I lost interest in it.

Any body else can't stand this new "Jeep"?..... It's like Jeep is copying the Bronco that copied Jeep. This all reminds me of the movie The Fly. Each new iteration is worse than the last and they are pricing them out of the market. I guess I'll have to turn in my Jeep Guy card after 30 years.

The front is rubbish... it looks like a renegade... may be they want to economize and used the renegade grill on the Wrangler... the battery on the trail last only a few miles... so rubbish. Understandable where Jeep is going due to restriction in some states and countries around the world, imposing draconian restrictions on ice vehicles... mall crawler may be, but for that purpose it's expensive... and as usual every change brings more bull crap electronics... the dash with the big screen... keep getting bigger... and all the storage areas are loosing space with every model.. wth! is thew Wrangler loosing it.s characteristics and becoming a total suv... and feel sorry for the Rubicon name used on this model... I bet next model will be a rounded smooth car, not the best 4wd out of the box!!!

Okay Alex I'm going to ask you the question what about the Jeep Gladiator they say anything about the Jeep Gladiator getting the same update and then what about you know any off-road version of the Wagoneer coming and is the Wrangler going to get the 3.0 hurricane in the near future
