In this video I measured the transmission oil capacity of my 2024 KTM 300 EXC TBI at 725ml. For future oil changes I'll use this amount, without the need to use the oil level screw hole in the clutch case.

Such CLEAR video's!! Thanks. I assume the XC TBI's are the same volume? They even have same internal gears.

Yes, the XC should be the same…

Thanks for showing us the 2024 in detail. I'm wondering how different the gearing is on this model compared to the previous model (20-23). For example I'm running 13/52 on my 2020 but that may not work the same on the new 24 etc. Thanks again.

Yes the transmission ratios are different on the 2024. I would suggest starting with the stock 13/45 and see how it feels for your riding. For my carb and TPI bikes I ran 12/50 and 13/50 on the 2024 feels similar.

What are the part numbers for the Tohnichi torque wrenches you use? 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and spoke wrench? Thank you!

How was the run-in oil? Any metal shavings or debris?

As expected, no large lumps of metal, so no problems. I'm making a separate video (1st Service) which shows that in detail. It'll be available later today...

great info, :) So probably Oil capacity of 800ml which is written in the manual is the measure of the new completely empty engine.

@@milosbgd It's Ok to use 800ml, but it is more than is required and will result in extra clutch drag, especially when cold. You'll also spend a little more on oil changes...

I always wondered if this is proper oil change. The owners manual just say add 800ml. The check hole is there just to check if there is at least minimum oil level. Not sure if using minimum allowed level is good idea, considering there may be leak, thus oil level would go under minimum level between change interval, if so.

The owners manual has said to use 800ml since the 2017 model. However, the measured amount is always less than this and has changed on each iteration on the engine. In the manual regarding use of the gear oil level monitoring screw it states "A small quantity of gear oil must flow out of the drilled hole". If you add 800ml it will pour out of the hole. 800ml is commonly regarded as the amount of oil required if you strip down the bottom end, clean and rebuild everything. Adding 800ml at each oil change will not damage anything and is completely safe to do, but will result in a slightly higher oil level than is required and a small amount of additional clutch drag, especially when cold. There should not be a significant amount of oil leaking from the transmission, especially given the relatively short oil change interval period. I typically change my oil every 15H of ride time. If you notice leaking, or a significant loss in oil volume between changes, it needs to be fixed as it is not normal, or acceptable.

@@TokyoOffroad350 hours on my 2017 250 xcw of just filling to 800ml and never even taking the oil check bolt out. No problems. Been doing the same on my 2024 too.

@GOTDRAGONS

@@QuestionLata I did 2 regular top end jobs. And at 350 hours I had the engine fully rebuilt bottom to top for peace of mind. So I am on my 4th piston. Every piston I pulled out wasn’t bad. Except my second piston, which I cooked the hell out of the bike and lost all coolant at an enduro but kept going anyway. Immediately replaced that piston when I got home. I’m a pretty agressive B rider too. I’m not very friendly to the clutch. But everything looks great. On my 3rd clutch. Now I’ve never had any problems that made me say I need to change a clutch or piston, besides the time it was my fault for overheating the bike, but I just do my top end around 120 hours and my clutch around 80 or 90

All the torque wrenches I use are Tohnichi QL-MH series (all metal construction). For 8Nm I use either the QL10N-MH (2~10Nm), or QL25N-MH (5~25Nm) QL10N-MH: www.tohnichi.com/product/ql10n-mh/ QL25N-MH: www.tohnichi.com/product/ql25n-mh/
