thats assuming you can find a dealer that will sell it to you at MSRP... I called around to every lexus dealer in my area before buying a 2024 LC, they all said it would be 8-12 months to get one and a 15k markup.

@@wedemmoez our dealership promised MSRP on a GX550 Overtrail, but they're sitting with a list of about 300 potential buyers ahead of us, and no clear answer for when the vehicle might actually be available. We ultimately opted for the tried and trusted 4Runner, and we'll reevaluate in a few years once the new versions have been sorted out a bit more. At the very least, the last for the 5th Gen 4Runners should hold value pretty well, since it seems like a lot of people are attached to that trim level, its history, and its reliability.

I would still pick the 4Runner...although I love the new LC. I just think in 10 years, everyone will look back at the 5th Gen as the epitome of Toyota engineering & reliability. No complicated electronic systems, just buttons where buttons should be with an engine & transmission, simple, straightforward & reliable at a reasonable value. (though I'd be coming from my FJC, so the 5th Gen IS a relative luxury upgrade for me) Having said all of that...the new LC is sweet.

I am not a fan of what they've done with the hybrid battery here. It is in the cargo area, which is not good if you have wet items in the rear or something leaks back there. It requires you keep several vents clean and unblocked in a cargo area in order to have airflow to keep the battery cool. And I have heard that the deck lid at the very rear, designed due to the battery location, can only support 150 lbs; again in the cargo area where that little area could see some weight, though it might be in only odd circumstances.

It’s like any other Toyota hybrid. You have to have the vehicle on. You have to push the button every time you start the vehicle. It’s an inverter that works off the high voltage battery. So if you’re running all 2.4kw I suspect it will run often.

@@TobyCostaRica sorry yeah I meant engine off with the vehicle in whatever accessory ignition mode it needs to be in. I just think it’s super useful when out camping or similar. Can even lock the car up and have an extension cord out to a tent for running a fan or heated blanket all night. Pulling 2-400 watts continually would last a good few hours before the engine would kick on, charge up the HV battery before turning back off automatically for another few hours. Or run a host of morning essentials like coffee maker, electric griddle etc and just let the vehicle turn on for a few minutes every so often without any additional input by the user.

A LOT of people won't agree this was worth the money, and for them, that is true. For you, I think it was. Primarily because of what you said about features. I would not take the 2024 TRD Pro for what it is over the LC you just bought. I hope it gives you years of reliable fun. Are you going to swap out tires? Are the wipers rain sensed? Did you say it has adaptive cruise? In our state, those things have become features I would very much like to have had on my old 2018 4R TRD OR. It'd be nice if you took the same line for the articulation section in both vehicles. Also, as you must surely know, the best 4Runner model for articulation is the TRD Off-Road with KDSS, as it disconnects (hydraulically) both swaybars below 12 mph. I've never given two hoots about all of the electronic nannies as I enjoy driving my vehicle and having as much control over it as possible. The only thing that I like on the new Prado is the Torsen centre-diff, but again, only for paved road, mixed condition (snow and rain) driving , as you still want to lock the centre diff for maximum slow speed, technical and difficult off-road conditions. Funny how we are - 3 years ago you could buy the best (non-70 series) Land Cruiser in the world (the LC200) for $86000 in the US, and now you're paying $77000 for a Prado :) Imagine getting rid of the top of the line Supra and giving consumers the GR86 for the same price and having them thank you for it - good one Toyota!!!!

LOL at some of these comments. For the vast majority of 5th Gen 4Runner owners, the top complaints have been how the 4Runner is hopelessly outdated and underpowered in 2024 standards. Now that they have seen the 6th Gen (and the LC250), the 5th Gen is suddenly back to being Toyota's irreplaceable chariot of the gods. You simply can't squeeze any more power and torque out of that naturally aspirated V6. Toyota gave what the whiners complained about - more power. The result? Even more whining than before. LOL!!!

I hope you'll redo this video when the new 4Runner comes out. I know you said you're preferring the new comfort and tech stuff. As my vehicles have leaped forward in tech over the last decade (newest was a 2020 Stinger GT2), I've started heading in the opposite direction. The older tech/design of the 4Runner kind of appeals to me.

The 4.0 L V6 is under tuned for longevity. The 2.4 is over tuned for 2023 emissions standards. Turbos recycle exhaust for combustion. Use premium fuel and let the oil cool down after a minute or so before turning off and you can still get longevity out of the 4 cylinder’s though. Toyota still makes a good engine.

Panhard bar mounts could be a reason why the LC flexed better on this test. The 4Runner's panhard bar mounts to the axle on the driver side which might limit driver side droop. The LC's passenger side droop might be limited for the same reason.

I'm eager to see the videos come out of the new LC on proper tires doing real trail testing (psst: Elephant Hill, etc!) Nice overview, sir! Antiquated (sure reliable etc..fr.2016) 4R vs new Toyota tech! Im sceptical of the new powertrain (batteries fail in 10, as mentioned above) and time will definitely tell if LC retains its "200K milee service interval on unimproved roads" medalion.

I actually passed on my allocation I received for the exact same LC and bought the exact same TRD Pro 4runner. I love both but I want to see what they will offer in the packaging on the LC and the new 4runner over the next couple years.

Previously had a 5th gen 4 runnner, now have a GX460. In the future when we get another SUV (keeping the 460) the LC is the one I'd be interested in. The improved MPG and the physical interior controls are more appealing to me than the GX550. Also the first editions round headlights look great.

Great start to a whole series! I’m pretty stuck on trying to decide between The last of the fifth generation 4R Before it goes away. I tend to buy my car brand new and keep them quite a while. My other thoughts are buying one of these or the upcoming sixth generation 4Runner. I only concern is the price point. I own a 5th GEN. And my biggest gripe was slow it was especially at my elevation of 7000 feet plus. But, I had quite a bit of character and I enjoyed it. I would go for an off-road/premium model. This would make the price difference even more. Would love more input for it too late! Ha ha!

We have a lot of vehicles- we have a horse farm and love our Toyota 4Runners/Tacomas for daily driving and around the property. Other than towing it’s hard to beat the 4Runner. The Pro models (we have Tacoma and 4 Runner Pros) are fantastic off road. To me the cameras are just unnecessary. I prefer the older LandCruisers and wish they still had a V8. Good luck, I think you made a good choice, considering you have a channel for reviews. There isn’t much need to review a bullet proof 4Runner. However if I were giving advice to most consumers - looking for ONE long term vehicle- I’d definitely recommend the 4Runner.

Just brought in a LHD '22 LC79 for my farm property, and a '23 daihatsu hijet camper box van from bug truck of tarbow japan, also LHD. I think a better investment then my wifes new cruiser like this, and her lexus variant as well. For now I'll keep importing what I need and use for my ranches and farms, also brought in a handful of upfitted hilux champs to replace the clapped out regular cab tacomas.
