The vent under the steering column was even in early 80's Toyota cars in the US. Delco, then a division of GM, was apparently working with NASA to provide cooling for astronauts in the 60's. The research showed that directing heated or cooled fluids to the crotch and the armpits was the most effective way to cool the blood and the body core. GM started putting the crotch vents in their cars, in the '60's, as a result of this.

I do like the 76, watching this made me thing, my 80 series does have electric mirrors, balls cooler, no hubs to lock or unlock, comfortable,not noise at all or rattles. Just maybe the 80 is one to keep as I always think on "upgrading". Nice honest review, thank you!

Just saying, my old 105 (from 1999) had many better standard features than this 2024 model. Full time 4WD, better economics, and yes it had a vent for air under the steering column. 25 years of underachieving.

The 2.8l will be a great setup for the "normal" consumer, the guys that overload and use the v8's outside the factory limits will struggle with a 2.8 and having it do the same work and lifespan. Our hilux 2.8's struggle and often overheat when trying to do the same work as the v8s, I'm sure the new 79's will be the same. Shame it's coming to an end, time for the yank trucks to show us what they can do.

The thing you.mentioned with the maintenance intervals...... Yeah, that isn't something new. If anything it's what we like to call Severe Service and just about everyone meets those conditions due to driving in extreme weather conditions, driving short distances, driving in dusty environments(Arizona for example) or driving Off Road. I wouldn't call it much of a Hack. That all said I will certainly agree with doing maintenance to keep a vehicle going down the road safely and reliably.

The seats are different to your Ute and troopy. Dpf model seats are much more comfortable than the older ones, good video and review mate.

I can remember in the 80s the turbo diesel automatic Mercedes G wagons was the preferred machine for driving across dessert because of the combination of auto keeping the engine on boost and always in the powerband.

Good to see an honest review, I know you can build a more comfortable / capable vehicle for your $85,000 including customisations, whereas this one starts at $85,000 bare bones, and it still has the inherent problems from 40 years ago, each to their own.

I sold my toyota fortuner 2023 gxl to upgrade to lc 300 .. was devastated we enjoyed the 2.8 fortuner that thing get us to places while towing a small camper trailer. While GVM upgrade it not optional for the fortuner we have to let her go as our new 19 foot 6 caravan getting build . Love your car mate definitely have it own personality

So glad you mentioned that the seats in 2024 comfortable because I’ve been thinking why do people saying they’re so bad when my 2023 Troopy it’s got the most comfortable seats I’ve ever had standard from the factory in New Zealand. Also brilliant that there was there air cooling to the seat area sick of getting hot bum and never understood heated seats . I understand off-road the rear track should be wider for better off-road driving but in the past I’ve been involved in building hill climbing racing cars and three wheeler sports cars and they handled extremely well because the rear track was narrower then the front track width. I wonder if you’ve noticed this between the vehicles you’ve widened the rear track on and your new 76 that on the open road the 76 corners better?

Hi Ronny. The Toyota Pins for the fuse accessory box should be in a plastic bag in your glove box when you picked it up. I have a '21 Hilux and that's where mine were and where they're meant to be. If they weren't there, go to your dealer and ask for them for free. I hooked up the relays for my front light bar and air compressor bluetooth adapter to my accessory box so far.

My 1991 LJ77 (the pre-prado/76) also had that little vent under the steering column. I called it "ball A/C".

16:43 I had a crutch cooler in my Chevy Caprice Station Wagon in the 1980’s. Boy, it was so cool it made my privates smaller than I knew it could be. 😂

I am a100% with you on the hubs. Absolute pain not to mention having to by a tool I can keep in the door just for this.😠

Ronny, thanks for an even and measured video - the decision between a V8 and the 2.8l auto is a difficult one and I think you have just helped me make my mind up. Much appreciated, keep up the great vids and thoughts.

Something to consider the cable size and volt drop should be taken into account if you’re using your compressor at the rear of your vehicle. Also check the max amps output the compressor will draw. I mounted my Anderson next to the battery.

My 100 series has the crotch cooler, very handy. Good vid,enjoyed it.

If you want a V8 it'll have be a used one as Toyota have stopped all orders for them. I've just ordered a 2.8 to pull our 3.5 t van. Gotta wait 9-12 months. Ah well I reckon it's worth the wait. Thanks for these videos Ronny, watching them helped me make my decision on a 76 instead of a Y32. Thanks.

Ronnie, how good is this 76 looking, that bar, gorgeous 💋, the proportions with the lift and tyres, the wrap, mate, its looking great. Aside from that I have a servere disliking for the VDJ76 after owning one, learnt to despise the bloody thing, so fatigued when getting to destinations but I suspect this replacement 2.8 is a vast improvement, however won't be swayed into purchasing another. Yours is looking so grand though.

One thing you can admire about Toyota is their constant little improvements on their products. The GD engine has come a long way. I've noticed they're a lot smoother now compared to the earlier ones ('16 Fortuner vs '23 Fortuner). Can't say the same about our brand new Nissan (Terra), that thing has the engine of decades past still behaves the same since the day it was introduced (earlier Navara) lmao

Is the new bar hoop blocking/restricting any air flow into the engine bar with the gap between the grill top and bonnet.

Hi Ronny , you are right about all new things in this new Land Cruiser but what about DPF ? What was changed with DPF , how works combustion proces any extra switch on dash? Any visible control on dash when in process ,also when DPF in process you can safe to stop the engine or keep running? Thanks.

Just wandering how your back brakes holding up I drove a v8 towing a trailer for 3 months last year and had to replace them every 15 thousand km and got told told that was common How do the 76 ones hold up

I love these vehicles, but there are few vehicles on the market with so many flaws straight out of the box as the 70 Series

Some of that stuff has been in the 7p series for quite a while. My 2019 78 gets 12L/100km on 33s all day around town so no real fuel savings.

FYI, unless us Americans park on a severe slope, we NEVER use the parking brake in an automatic...and everything is just fine.

V8 s are just the best

My 4.8 GU has auto hubs and i have never bothered using the lock function, just leave in auto. There is a simple mod on the nissans which turns them into manual hubs so you can use low range in 2wd.

Hey Ronnie. Wondering if you can comment on this 76 2.8 vs the hilux? Been watching you for a while and wondering what made you keep this over tge 79 and if the same engine as the hilux why you sold the hilux rather then 79?

DPF, Add Blue? DPF Regen light on dash? Do Toyota recommend a long trip of half an hour or more weekly at 80kmhs per hour to initiate a DPF regen burn, if you have been making multiple short trips such as a tradie may do? Have had this issue with Hyundai iload vans, new DPF unit at 80.000kms and no indicator light to show when you are in a regen burn cycle, diesel in sump lucky not to hydraulic motor. $6.000 to replace DPF unit. Hope Toyota on top of this now.

I’ve got a question mate. Have you got any experience yet with the new 2024 Land Cruiser Prado? I’ve been interested in it purely because it crosses over into that luxury space, but they seem to have shaped it much closer to the 70 and moved away from the ugly prado shapes from the last decade. I’m a lifelong fan of the 70, and I tow a medium sized boat. But I struggle with it as a daily driver, and always choose my partners vehicle when I’m running around. I’ve been considering that the prado, might finally be the combination of luxury, speedier towing, and decent off road capabilities I’ve actually needed, given I don’t do quite the same level of off roading that you do. Would love to hear your opinions on it so far if you have any.

For the price you have to consider a prado. Obviously not for everyone but you get a lot more lux and the same engine.

Sorry Ronny, Toyota press release came out today. Can’t get any more V8’s in Troopy or Wagon which cease from Sept 24 production, only a very slight chance of V8 GXL in Single Cab and Dualcab Chassis, which continue into 2025 to fill existing orders.

The pins for the acc fuse panel are available from Toyota and same part no as what hilux uses.

Blows my mind they didn't match front, rear track width. And the dodgy wobbly bonnet. At least general quality is ok, not like the new US Tacoma that has litany of major issues. Engine failure included.

Have a look at terrain tamer for leaf spring for the parabolic leaf spring will blow your mind do much better.

Ronny towing a 2.5 tonne hybrid caravan in semi auto mode travelling up a reasonably steep incline out of Foster Victoria and warning for excessive transmission oil temp appeared. Would power haul mode have made any difference?....tia. Warning only remained for 30 seconds until we reached the crest.

What brand/model OBDII do you use? I’ve seen one in the background on the dash a couple of times, and you refer to what gear you were in when doing the towing comparo with Harry. Cheers.

At 4:45, the 2.8 in fact has 16% more torque than the V8 - not 10%

I was very interested in getting one of these, until I seen the price 100k!!! very basic vehicle and that's the price. Yeah hell no. Been with Mitsi for the last 13 years, have been super reliable so I stuck with them and grabbed the new Triton Putting an Auto into neutral, handbrake then park is how its meant to be done, that's not a hack

Looking at that bull bar for my 79 but undecided. What was your reason to go with that bull bar
