2024 Legion Go vs Budget LoQ: Which Should You Buy?

Should you get a budget gaming laptop or an expensive handheld? Both cost CAD 800, ( The Lenovo LoQ 15 and the Legion Go) but are in entirely different value brackets. So choose carefully!

Some additional rambling from me:
In conversations at least, the excitement around the Legion Go seems to be higher than the more useful Lenovo LoQ 15. And this goes the same for other handheld devices like the Steam Deck or the Rog Ally or the MSI Claw.
The LoQ 15 proved to me that budget gaming laptops actually do make sense. I used to look down at budget gaming laptops like the HP Victus or the Acer Nitro 5 or The Asus Tuf F15 or the Dell G15 or the Dell G16. But no more! I think in 2024, the improved efficiency of thermal systems, CPUs and GPUs seem way better than my last encounter with budget laptops a few years ago
I have always been chasing after the more premium brands and devices like the Razer Blade 15 or 16 or 18 or Alienwares like the Alienware X16 or the M16 or the Legion 7s or higher.. boasting their i9s and their RTX 4080s and RTX 4090s and high resolution screens n all. But the truth is, a proper gaming enthusiast can have a really great time with these budget laptops while spending a budget that is a little bit more than a PlayStation 5 while being portable as well.
Overall for the price aswell, the LoQ 15 can probably be one of the best budget gaming laptops out now in 2024?

Excellent Video. I think you should do a video on how you find the sales. Legion 7 6700M for $2200CAD, Legion Go for $800, LOQ AMD with RTX 3050 6GB were some excellent prices IMHO. I think that would get a lot of views. I imagine it is something simple like subscribing to newsletters for products you're interested in.

hey man can you share your settings options and what drive you using for the legion go because your performance… not all people are getting that

Oh hey Fabio. Thank you for your comment. Did you mean I am getting better performance or lower performance? I just kept the devide at its performance mode with RSR one and at 1080p resolution. The in the game presets are also mentioned in that table I show towards the start of the video. I have mentioned the drive later in the video as well. It is a new brand called 'KingSpec'? I literally had no other option since I could not find any other gen 4 2242 drive

@@kazmiee It really just meets my needs while traveling and allows me a few hours of entertainment after work at the hotel. I had an Alienware m18 and it was perfect in every way. Just much too large and heavy. The LeGo and its case go in my bag for the same purpose but about 10 pounds lighter.

Those frame rates look like you were running at 1920x1200 which just isn't reasonable on the Legion Go. That resolution is for media consumption, not AAA gaming (at least not without serious upscaling). Play at a more reasonable 800p (which still looks good on the smaller screen of the Go, especially with integer scaling turned on) and you'll get much better performance. I just ran the same benchmark on CP2077 and got 58 FPS on medium settintgs, still far lower than the laptop but totally acceptable for a handheld.

Hey thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.I think that is a fair comment. Considering this is a QHD+ screen, I thought one should atleast try 1080p gaming on this. For now I have mostly been using the Go for less resource hungry games. Even at 1080p though, I really did not mind the lower frames. Somehow games still felt pretty smooth. I dont realize the low fps till I turn the counter on.

I've heard the LOQ have hardware problems. At this point if you read enough you cant find anything without problems. Did company's stop testing stuff before sending them out? Us this beta hardware?

Oh yeah? the Loq I have been using actually worked pretty flawlessly, No issues so far. But yeah perhaps there is some evidence to your point of view; I feel that Asus's F15 and the HP Victus and other budget competition is way more popular than the LoQ series.

MUCH better actually from a pure performance standpoint. :) though it depends how much you like the idea of a handheld

Really? I mean sure it has its moments but at 1200P, It actually performs pretty well.. Again using Radeon Super Resolution :)
