You guys are way off on the Magnussen crash. The stewards decided it was a racing incident, which is fair imo. There was a gap, Perez saw Magnussen and squeezed him. The fact that Magnussen already has a shit ton of penalty points doesn't mean he can't be involved in a racing incident. Saying that "the whole point of penalty points is to stop drivers repeatedly causing incidents", does not mean that every 50/50 incident automatically becomes Magnussen's fault.

K-Mag did not have the energy available to pass Checo on that straight no matter what he did. There was nothing inside the known laws of physics which would have made that pass on. Just to point this out, the Formula E race at Monaco earlier this year had 197 overtakes over 31 laps. Formula One on the exact same circuit, with 78 laps of '''racing''', had 4 overtakes. Monaco is still a great circuit, but like Brands Hatch or Watkins Glen, the modern track just isn't suitable for modern F1 cars. If F1 wants to keep racing at Monaco the cars will have to get smaller, and while the 2026 regs are a step in the right direction, I'm not sure it goes far enough.
@NaughtyPrincessfkhandles

Isnt Formula E absolutly wreckless with shunting each other and such? If F1 did that every driver would get 11 penaltypoints so they dont need to ban then? Well this might work!

Saw this elsewhere, and don't know how you swing it in a cost cap era, but one solution is to have a fully different set of design specs for Monaco or similar circuits (Hungary etc) with just a much smaller car and less aero. It's an extreme measure but mandating 3 pit stops or bringing back refueling don't address the lack of overtakes. The only thing that will is racing physically smaller cars.

I work in live TV (I do all of the Goodwood racing events etc) and I can guarantee the director and their assistants 100% knew what was going on with the crashes and were indeed waiting to make sure everyone was okay before cutting it up. The cameras will have been focused on the drivers so race control can see what is happening and respond accordingly. Sadly this means sometimes we have to focus in on people in a bad way but it's essential to get them the help they need ASAP. The director may not have put it up on the world feed but race control would have been seeing it the whole time.

I disagree with all the hate on Magnussen, Perez knew Magnussen was there, you could see he looked at his mirror on the onboard. Perez just refuses to give Magnussen room, while Magnussen is along side him. This resulted in the crash. So, I would say a race-accident is a fair assessment from the stewards. If anything, Perez was more at fault, because he could move to the left and avoid the contact.

Re smaller cars, I watched the Monaco Historique racing, especially the pre 1966 1.5 litre cars which was brilliant. The cars were tiny compared to today's juggernauts and on most of the circuit they could, and did, run 3 abreast. With only 220 bhp on tap they were fast enough to be interesting. Also remember that back in the day, the race length was 100 laps of a slightly shorter course (no swimming pool chicanes) and used H pattern manual gearboxes with drivers finishing the race with bleeding right hand palms despite wearing gloves! Perhaps a return to much smaller cars just for Monaco with similar attributes would be better!

For those who are wondering the pitstop rule, it's because the rules are saying that you have to use 2 different compounds during the race BUT don't specify how it should happen which means that in a normal race the only way to do so would be a pitstop but with a red flag you can change tyres, so you effectively used 2 different compounds ( unless you're Logan Sargeant appenrently lol)
@rjhyland1981
@rjhyland1981 Ай бұрын
correct, there is no 'mandatory pitstop' anywhere in the sporting regulations. So if you can use both of your chosen compounds via a red flag, you have satisfied the requirements. Could easily be fixed by making a stop under racing conditions a requirement, e.g. can still change for safety reasons but must complete a stop under racing conditions during the grand prix

In Monaco there is no gaps, so whenever there is a chance for a overtake you kinda have to go for it. MAGNUSSEN went for it, got his front wheel AHEAD of Perez’s rear wheel, which would be considered alongside in the rules, and then Perez decided to just squeeze him out. And before you say, no, at that moment in time MAGNUSSEN could not back out because that would cause a incident too.

There is no mandatory pit stop rule. The rules state that you must use at minimum two different compounds of Tire during a [dry] race. If you are able to change onto a second compound during the red flag you have satisfied the requirements for using two different compounds and therefore no longer need to do a pit stop. This can be seen with Logan Sergeant needing to do a pit stop to change tires because during the red flag he went from hard tires to hard tires. There is no mandatory Pit Stop rule, maybe you shouldn't call it that because it just confuses the people that don't know

One suggestion that might negate the changing tyres during a red flag to create a no stop race. If you do change your tyres, you have to use the same compound as when the red flag was called (unless rain is involved). Therefore, it means cars still have to make one pit stop during the race to use two compounds.

My only issue with the "Championship back on" claims, is they seem to completely discard Lando and McLaren. Which is weird, bcs they've been the ones who have actually been taking the fight to Red Bull and Max recently. Charles was on top of Monaco, but apart from that, since McLaren's Miami upgrades they've looked 2nd best. Lando has had some massive drives since Australia. And Ferrari have looked quite comfortably 3rd in the ranking excluding Monaco where Charles is an absolute beast and their car holds a natural advantage ovet McLaren and Red Bull who are designed for high speed corners. My point is, majority of the races in a calendar arent like Monaco, so one track where they look top of the table, isnt gonna help them when even with Charles they're 3rd best with Lando and Max up the road. I still believe Max is up there. Because Monaco is a different track altogether, we can't make predictions based only on Monaco's results. Surely, Red Bull is gonna struggle with bumpy tracks in the future but there will be opportunities to overtake at least. I'm sure had there been an opportunity to overtake in Monaco, Max would've ended up higher up than P6. We are talking about Max Verstappen and he is much more than just the car. No other driver drives the car to its limit like Max does (Imola for example). Surely Ferrari and McLaren has improved their cars but it also comes down to the driver and the driving style. McLaren was the fastest car in Imola but Max still managed the win. Also, Red Bull is facing some issues with bumps and kerbs and there are so many upcoming track where they will still be dominant. We'll see that in Barcelona for sure. Lastly, Monaco is just a different track altogether. It's basically where you qualify is where you finish too. But let's not forget that's not the case with any of the upcoming tracks.

@@zainab5424 McLaren was not the fastest car in Imola. Sure it was faster in Quali but Max had a tow there. On the mediums the Red Bull in Maxes hands was lightyears ahead, and in Lando's hands the McLaren on hards was lightyears ahead of Max in the Red Bull. Overall, when it came down to it, they were pretty much identical. And, one other driver drove their car to the limits like Max did in Imola, and that was Lando. He was the absolute knife edge of that McLaren's capabilities. He was getting oversteer every other corner yet still made 8 seconds in less than 15 laps. Imo, Max is a great driver and over the course of a season has less off days than Lando, but Lando is hot on his tail now. His consistency is up there with the best on the grid and has been since 2021. And now he's shown he can push his car to the limit and dominate while winning races when he needs to. Lando and Max is 100% going to be a fight we see a lot more often, perhaps more than we see Max and Charles. I find it weird how much you praise Maxes driving without addressing the fact that Charles was actually a better driver at the start of 2022, his racecraft was better, he was more collected and sensible too. As well as the clear fact that Lando is (at the very least) on his day as good as Max, sometimes even better. Anyways, no one but Max is winning the title this year. But depending on which teams takes the step forward in the winter, Lando or Charles could both end up world champ in 2025. Also, bumps and kerbs werent anymore present in Miami or Imola than they will be in any other non-street circuit for the rest of the calendar, Barcelona and Canada included. McLaren matched them in those scenarios, no reason they cant in any other track on the calendar. McLaren can handle the bumps and kerbs at Monaco, and be right there with the Red Bull in Imola and faster in Miami. With Lando at the wheel there's no reason they can't challenge Max and Red Bull for the forseeable future.

@@bill4665 I get your point regarding Lando and yes he has been performing very good. And not to forget Oscar too. But them saying that championship is back on with between charles and max with charles 30 points behind is a bit of an exaggeration especially this early on the season. What i meant to say is that future tracks are not gonna be like Monaco where Charles normally is dominant (especially in qualifying). We can say constructors championship is on but even for that there’s a long way to go. Max has been getting 8 consecutive poles in a row and then winning too. We can’t make championship predictions based solely on charles’ Monaco performance and Lando’s Miami. To be in a championship fight, consistency is key and whether any of these teams have it, we’ll have to wait. There are still so many tracks to come where i have no doubt that Red Bull again will be favorites and few where they might suffer from bumps/kerbs. Despite McLaren and Ferrari improving immensely, 25 might be their year but don’t think it would be this year. Still a very long way to go. Lets see

You blamed Kevin for the incident in saudi as well with albon and now kevin was in albons position and you still blame him???? jesus. Perez also checked his mirror THREE times so he definitely knew he was there

The move from Ocon was actually really good, and then for some reason he decided to try and squeeze Gasly on the exit.

No. It was a horrible move. A desperate dive bomb against his TEAMMATE. This was never going to work. With the way he threw his car into the corner he would have always understeered wide.

New rule, during a red flag you can only change tires to the same compound you were running at the start of the red flag, unless you were actually in the pit lane at the start of the red flag.

About the RED FLAG, the cars should be allowed to change tires to the SAME compound. soft to soft, medium to medium, hard to hard.

I don't mind if they change the compound, but they should 100% still have a required pitstop during the race.

Mag was reckless yes, but _Checo looked the at mirror a few times and knew exactly where Kevin was._ I think Checo decided to end the race with a bang. _He can play victim_ and say he was taken out rather than finish 16th or whatever unattractive position.

because dnf and costing the team millions is better than finishing 16th?

According to the FIA rules, Perez should have left space for Kmag to exist. So Perez should have been penalized but the stewards decided to give Perez the benefit of the doubt and say he just f-ed up.

Congrats on Leclerc's win but what 'incident' was Matt watching?! Perez's onboard camera clearly show's Perez turning to the right to avoid Hulkenberg, who was actually futher back and right into K Mag! This was ALL CHECO'S FAULT!

FIA rules state :"Both the overtaking and leading car have the responsibility to avoid a collision. This means overtaking at a safe time and place, and the leading car giving space when possible." So Perez did the opposite of what the rules state.

KMag knew he will get a race ban at some point this year, so he thought why make the trip to Canada. Race stewards being different is also another factor for inconsistency?

Perez was more to blame the rules of F1 state that: " Both the overtaking and leading car have the responsibility to avoid a collision. This means overtaking at a safe time and place, and the leading car giving space when possible." Meaning Perez must leave space for the overtaking car. Instead he slammed Kmag into the barriers.

Seeing Yuki pull out that lap time without a pit stop at the end on the hard tire was still impressive, so close to the pitted medium runners.
