Headed from Montecollina Bore on the Strzelecki Track, south to Arkaroola in the Gammon Ranges (or North Flinders Ranges), South Australia. It was only a short run to the southern turnoff of Mount Hopeless Road. I loved this drive! Stunning gibber plains of the southern Strzelecki Desert, creek beds, cattle, the dingo fence and all while watching the Gammon Ranges gradually build up ahead of you.
Next was a fun drive on a 4WD side track before Arkaroola to see the Ochre Wall, Welcome Sound which is very steep and cool, Stubbs missing waterhole and a 3km return hike to Bararranna Gorge. The dark red cliffs are stunning and remind me of the West Macdonell Ranges.
At Arkaroola we saw the Yellow footed rock wallabies and had a little cosmos viewing.
