@@DungeonDudes also look at the classes from a practical standpoint. This class seems like great arcade-y fun, but a DM is going to hate having to come up with 150' battlefields or decide if they're waving the bonus-action-to-maintain-rage function. I'd have to play it, but in a high-tier one shot this is outstandingly fun, in a regular game it feels like the rest of the party will just be there to support this Barb.

A great thing about the Teloport 150 ft once per rage, is that it doesn't limit this to once per battle. You can just Rage again while you're already raging to gain the effect again. It works the same with the Beast Barb's Form of the Beast: Want to switch forms? Rage again. And now with Rage recharging on a SHORT rest, this is usable even more. And then Pole Arm Master with the mastery and the 20ft reach on a Glaive? OOF

my favorite thing about the teleport is that it doesn't say you have to land on solid ground. You resist bludgeoning and tasha's says when you land on someone they take half of the falling damage which is (at level 14 when you have a billion health) basically free damage

@@Draeckon with the optional Tasha's rule the 6d6 damage you'd take from falling 60ft is split in half between you and the person you land on, then your (functionally but not literally) 3d6 is halved because of rage's bludgeoning resistance which is a separate calculation. The enemy you do it to takes the full (functionally but not literally) 3d6 which at high levels is not a huge amount of damage but importantly it is extremely funny for a barbarian to have self sustaining dive-bomb ability that deals an average of 6 damage to you but 12 damage to the enemy

Push, as written now, could push UPWARDS into the air. With you being able to double up on this with Battering Roots, you can uppercut an enemy 20ft into the air with a single attack. And because of the reach (and maybe some generous ruling) hit them AGAIN, putting them 40ft above ground. And then they fall

I think the weapon mastery stuff is exactly what martial needs. Imagine for a sec a lvl 10 barb you attack a creature with a weapon using the push and push them up. Your reach is extended, so you can use the double mastery to push them up again. Then bonus action teleport 55 ft up and on their turn reaction teleport them to 5ft below you. that's an extra 5d6 just from fall damage. By raw you're resistant to bludeoning while raging so you take half, but rule of cool the enemy can probably soften your blow a bit by being underneath. the combo potential is actually incredible with this new feature. I love it

This makes me more inspired to play barbarian than I ever have. I like the idea of a Wood Elf World Tree Barbarian with the dual wielder feat and dual wielding battle axes which have the topple mastery.

I think it is so cool that you can seemingly teleport allies (if i am intepreting this correctly). Also I am factually unsure how of a role BG3 barbarians played in some of the other decisions, but i am inclined to credit Larian Studios for popularizing both throwing enemies and pushing them off cliffs. Either way, I can't wait for the hijinks!

This'll be really good for exploration and getting around difficult terrain and whatnot. Also I really like the idea of teleporting 60 feet above the enemies head and hitting them with a falling strike, or teleporting above the dragons head to land an easy hit. There are some fun combos you can pull off with this new subclass.

I think they'll have to change some features of this barb subclass. The combo you mentioned would effectively make the enemy permanently locked prone without ability to move or do anything really, unless they save on the strength saving throw. That's a really powerful thing that could make many boss fights completely trivial.

I am fairly sure that in one of the last UAs there was a statement that allies can voluntarily fail saves on effects from their friends... it might have even been in the one with the last tweaks to this sub-class

This is the direction I really wanted them to go with the barbarian. Movement, enemy control, and a tonnof support. My only real issue is that it has a very minor level 3 abolity, that whilenit grows wonferfully will feel very weak when you first get it, at least if you arent reliably near an ally. Compared to Frenzy barb or Wild Heart (totem) its going to be a little lackluster until its second subclass ability. But once it gets that, its golden.

The best part is the abilities here remove the need or desire for offensive feats. Now you can choose defensive, utility, or role play feats to really give a barbarian a strong presence in all pillars of play.

Yggdrasil, in traditional D&D cosmology, was a cosmic tree that linked the Material Plane through the Astral Plane to a bunch of other planes. In some campaigns it was essentially the extraplanar transit system. It didn't reach everywhere, but it let you travel the planes without the use of high level magic. Nice to see it making a comeback. Hopefully they also bring back the ratatosk, those guys were cute. Like angry squirrel versions of the palicoes in Monster Hunter.

It's interesting that you guys mentioned sentinel as a feat and I think that's a pretty good pick up. Because this reaction targets a saving throw and reckless works off turn, 99% of the time you're going to be better off just using sentinel with your reaction to achieve the same outcome as your level 6 feature. Not to mention sentinel gives a +1 str in current UA.

Currently playing a campaign where the Barbarian has Mobile Feat and Path of the Beast. This new subclass sounds like what my campaigns barbarian does. Rage - Reckless Attacks - Mobile gives you the option to move away without attack of opportunity, they have 50 feet of movement. So often what he does is, moves up to the enemy that is engaged the tank fighter, attacks at advantage, then moves 20 feet away. Does it over and over again.

Just want to play a Bugbear with this subclass and 3 level dip into Rune Knight. yes, you need a 2nd turn for full set up, but you would have a functionally 30-foot reach on every attack 😆

Tree Barb sounds like one of the best subclasses I've heard of. The mobility and battlefield control, all flavored around getting pulled underground by roots and popping up somewhere else, or adding extra tree branches to a melee attack to clobber someone, or pulling someone to you, it all hits the notes of both ability and theme. I love it. I may have to break down and finally play a barbarian. I can already envision all the homemade Groots this is going to give rise to

A potential combo with the teleport roots when fighting a flying enemy: Use an Enlarge potion or spell from an ally to become Large. When the flying enemy’s turn comes up, teleport them to a spot around you that is 10 feet off the ground. Since their speed is 0 they fall 10 feet (provided they can’t hover), take 1d6 fall damage, land prone, and can’t get up from prone since their speed is 0.

OOOOOOO! Travel Along the Tree is very sneaky good. Sure you can get across that ravine or on top of that high wall but I see other uses. 1. Let's say you're in that situation where you are all surrounded. NOPE! Teleport everyone, place yourself 40 feet away that means that you can place other melee characters at the 30' mark and the squishies plus your ranged buddies are now 50' away. 2. It is going to be hard to get away from you with the 30' "Get over here" and the 60' jumping around the battle field. 3A. As per Tasha's (TCE 170) Falling onto creatures: They must make a DC 15 saving throw, if failed then the fall damage is divided between them and they are knocked prone. With some restrictions it doesn't apply to tiny creatures and the creature that was underneath gets knocked prone. So 3B. You can flying elbow drop from 60 feet every round if you want to. That that is on average 36 damage taken by falling divided in half because half on you and half on the target so that is like 18 to each. But you have resistance so you'll be taking an average of 9 damage AND you can be gaining 14 Temp HP every round. 3C. You could even attempt to knock a flying creature Prone. Just as long as they aren't above 140 feet above you. 4. And then depending on how many rages you have you can Flying Elbow Drop five times from 150 feet. Each round just drop rage and then start it up again.

I love people pronunciating things wrong, it always makes me smile a little. The Y in Yggdrasil is quite hard for English speakers to say, it's almost like you say the letter "E" but slightly different sound. So almost like "Egg-drasil" but slightly different. Hope that made any sense. Either way, great video guys! =)

If you can get a spellcaster to cast Fly on your Barb, just run up into as many enemies as possible, and teleport you and up to 6 of them 100 ft in the air; get an extra 10-20 ft. with a double shove strike upwards on one enemy you REALLY want to go splat!

Being able to Bonus action teleport 30 feet to a landing, hold your action to attack anyone who appears next to you, teleport someone up on their turn and attack them is great and all! But, the fact that you would also use push and knock them back down the 30 feet makes this SOOOO much better
@alexanderbuchner660

Holding an action requires your reaction for it to trigger. As you only have one reaction per turn you can't use the teleport reaction and your held attack re(action).

The 10th level feature is great, but it's really unfortunate that melee attacks still have disadvantage on prone creatures outside of 5 feet. That seems like quite a nonbo.

Always loved the concept of a kind hearted Firbolg tree-loving barb warrior that will not hesitate to turn your innards to fertiliser for his beloved seedlings if you hurt his friends. My initial idea was just simply flavouring the Ancenstral Guardian path to have spirits be more akin studio ghibli-esque forest spirts, and even dabbled in a homebrew with the idea of your rage turning you into Groot with vines extending grappling reach with a "get over here" mechanic. Boy oh boy was I excited when they revealed my get over here fantasy is officially baked into the this subclass! And the subclass lore I think is such a perfect thematic fit for a Fey touched hulking barb. It has me thinking of a "deliver and protect important seedlings at all cost" type main personal quest that involves the Ygdrassil. Open to all suggestions for character ideas!
