Some fantastic goals!! I am in awe of how many volumes you manage to get through in a year! Good luck with your goals, I hope 2024 is a great year for you!! 💜

Reading manga is pretty much my only hobby so I end up spending a lot of time on it haha. Thanks for watching, and I hope 2024 is great for you as well!

Those are some great goals!! I think I’m going to put my reading goal at 400 again. That’s what I had it set for this year and I blew past it too. I’m also going to start reading one novel a month. I’ve just recently gotten back into reading “real books” 🤣🤣🤣 I’m currently reading Golden Kamuy so I can be ready when that final volume drops! I also need to continue Haikyu! I stopped o n volume 10. I want to finish reading Red River and start Basara on the Viz app too!!
@tonireadsmanga8 ай бұрын
For some reason I thought you finished Haikyu lol. Maybe I’ll try to host a readalong with it, though the last time I did that no one joined me so it wasn’t really a readalong lmao

Great goals! I will probably strive to finish Haikyu in 2024, since I had a few volumes come up in my Manga Advent Calendar project this month and I really enjoyed reading them. I don't have too many volumes left to read to finish the series, but I don't think I'll be able to fit them in before the year is over. I would also like to finish Fruits Basket and Bleach. Both of those I was hoping to finish this year. I got too busy for Bleach and I am just not inspired to pick up the last 3 volumes of Fruits Basket. I have an unpopular opinion on that one unfortunately, but the completionist in me wants to finish the series. I'm keeping my goal at 52 on Goodreads, but I know I will blow by that one. I just like to have that sticker at the end of the year. There was one year that I didn't meet the goal and it bugs me that I don't have the sticker. I will also keep my 52 novels secondary goal.

That goodreads challenge banner is really satisfying every year and definitely encourages me to read more haha. Good luck with your goals!

I love gunslinger girl! I would recommend "The Valiant must fall" by the same author

I tried that one and unfortunately didn’t love it as much

Really great goals! I will make my goal video very soon! I also need to read Basara & Red River but like you I feel guilty if I’m not reading ones in my collection. I think one of my goals is to at least read a chapter a day of a digital manga. ❤

Super jealous of your Gunslinger Girl series. Would have loved to have the opportunity to collect it.

I got lucky and collected it just as the volumes started going out of print. Maybe Seven Seas will reprint it like a few of the other formerly oop series they’ve been reprinting this year

@@tonireadsmanga here's hoping🙏. There's a few seven seas titles out there I wish will get another round of reprints...Ive gotta list i always keep checking on lol

Glad to see Heroic Legend of Arslan is on the list! I feel like rereading it

I think I heard that it was entering its “final arc” though that could just be a rumor. Either way I’m excited to get back to it next year.

Looking forward to your thoughts on Thermae Romae when you get to it. I loved it and it's one of my favorites but I've seen a lot of people not care for it.
@tonireadsmanga8 ай бұрын
Hopefully I enjoy it! I really wish I could have gotten the other hardcover release instead but this huge one will have to do for now
@thequestyen8 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm glad I found the regular hardcovers before they got super hard to find because that all in one looks unwieldy.

Hikaru no Go is fantastic! :D I also loved Silver Spoon - very different to what Hiromu Arakawa normally does, but a nice change of pace. :) What novels do you read? I normally read all sorts of stuff but am reading old school Japanese detective fiction these days (though I mostly read manga).
@tonireadsmanga8 ай бұрын
I read a lot of different genres but lately it’s been mostly horror/thriller. Unfortunately I haven’t been super impressed by the books I’ve been reading lately but hopefully that will change next year.
@queeniechandotcom8 ай бұрын
@@tonireadsmanga Good that you like to read horror/thrillers, that's my fav genre. :) I read a lot of classic horror fiction (I'm a big fan of weird fiction, like the works of Lovecraft, but also classic Japanese authors like Edogawa Rampo which I really rec) so let me know if you're looking for recommendations there. I haven't found any horror/thriller stuff that I really liked lately as well, but I wonder if it's because my tastes are just too refined now. Say, do you like Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire"? One of my favs. :)

Arslan is not made by the Fullmetal lady just the art is OMG DONT YOU KNOW ANYTHING!!!!!!! lolol I JKJKJK I never get to act like my crybaby subs when I say anything not 100000000% correct EVEN if I know it like im sure you do here also. Yen sent me that Thermae you got and I had it for awhile and it was alright. Hopefully you like it! I sent mine to weeb family mom for free cause I knew she liked it a lot! Also hope you like tegami bachi! I had them before I was on YT and liked the series!
@tonireadsmanga8 ай бұрын
I know you’re joking but I’m going to have to “um actually” your “um actually” lol. The original novels that Arslan is based on are not by Hiromu Arakawa, but she does the manga adaptation entirely by herself. They talk about it in the joint interview in volume 1. The original author is involved in the fact that he approved the adaptation and he reads it, but he “leaves the manga entirely up to her.” I’m hoping I like Tegami Bachi but hopefully not enough to collect it because I don’t want to track down out of print volumes. I think I’ll like Thermae Romae because I tend to like Greek/Roman stories but with my current track record with slice of life who knows lol Thanks for watching as always!
@TheMangaSloth8 ай бұрын
@@tonireadsmanga Oh yes I know all that haha I just meant the story is not hers even though she may make some changes - "shes just doing the art" is a lazy way of saying that shes the artist BUT she does all the other work to bring the manga to life. So yes you are 100% right on that I was just trolling. I like historical and also greek roman stuff too. I just couldn't get into it

I'm dying to reread Hikaru no Go but the reprints are taking forever and I'm just missing two volumes (15 and 23) I'm also reading Haikyuu which I should finish next year.
@tonireadsmanga8 ай бұрын
Honestly I thought they abandoned any plans for a reprint for Hikaru no Go. Hopefully you can find the remaining volumes for a decent price.
@ilvanime018 ай бұрын
@@tonireadsmanga Please don't say that, I've been waiting for sooo long already and I can't find volume 23 for a decent price. I can find volume 15 but it's more than retail so I've been holding back. I saw it listed on Rightstuf so I thought they were just taking their sweet time about it along with some others

@@ilvanime01 I guess it could be in a similar situation to Eyeshield 21 where it’s technically not out of print but instead in some weird out of stock limbo for several years

@@tonireadsmanga Yeah I feel like that's what it is but I wish Viz would just be clear about their licenses. Between Viz and no reprints of much loved series and Kodanshas digital jail of exciting series that I want in physical, I'm getting less excited with purchasing their stuff
