I believe the Impeza is all new for 2024,it's not just a refresh. With this redesign, Subaru discontinued the sedan and the manual transmission.

I’m a huge fan of Subarus having owned four of them, but their body designs are glacially slow to change. I like them, but the difference from the last few Legacy and Impreza generations are pretty incremental. Indeed the Legacy plastic “cladding” is tiresome.

@@rawb4185That guy comments like a white knight whenever someone says anything remotely negative about Subaru's CVTs. Nobody said anything negative about them, yet there he is. People are free to have their own opinions but he can't take it.

Drove the newest gen outback with it and it's nice. It isn't overly bright. It works well. No complaints about it at all..

Jeremy Clarkson once said the Impreza was about as luxurious as an Egyptian prison with a flat four H pattern engine as old as your parents with four pistons tribbing away like a pair of raucous lesbians. Ok I made up the lesbian part. Even so, the Impreza RS still manages to be one of the most charming cars for the price to look at and to drive.

At $32k i just don't see the point of this car. You can get a lightly optioned Forester with the same engine for the same price. If you want performance the WRX base is only like $1k more or you can look at an Si.

Needs to be 5k cheaper and come with a normal automatic not a cvt then it might be a decent option.

Cabin noise really aint bad going down the road now its really loud when your back roading for sure. I notice changes when i drive mine when i am on a highway and when i am backroading. Back roads have worse roads then on the highway. Seems like they care of interstates and highways better then backroads

Hi Zack. If you had to choose between a 2024 Subaru Impreza RS, Honda Civic Hatchback 2.0 6 speed and a Mazda 3 Hatchback 6 speed, which would you buy? I realize you have a Mazda 3, lol. Thank You.

Great review. Thanks! This seams a little pricey. The Civic sport touring is a little less than this, the way it's spect out. The AWD is a huge plus though. Similar in size. I don't know. They both have good resale too. I still think I'm going with the Honda.

Interesting. In Canada the Civic Sport Touring (hatch) is going for about $10K more than the Impreza RS where I live. I would have preferred a Civic but not willing to pay that price difference.

I used to like Imprazas, sadly this is a sad shadow of it's former self. They don't even sell these in the UK anymore and I can see why.

Looks like a solid car. It just seems kinda... strange that they gave a car an RS-badge which makes roughly as much power as the tier below the RS would in other brands.

The original 2.5RS was the same idea. It had the same 165 hp as a normal Impreza

If I'm not mistaken Subaru CVTs are from AISIN, which is the transmission manufacturer owned by Toyota, which in essence is a Toyota CVT which probably explains why as far as CVTs go, it's a solid one since AISIN/Toyota have been making them and working out the bugs the longest.

As of now (around the release of Zack's video), Toyota owns about 20% of Subaru and I've heard Subaru uses some parts in Toyota's supply chain. It could very well be that certain aspects of Subaru's CVT be the same or similar in part.

I'm surprised these are selling. I thought Subaru couldn't give Imprezas away but give it a slight lift and cladding and they can't keep the Crosstrek in stock. I don't see why they came out with a new Impreza, and even more so why it's hatchback only. Unless they bring back the WRX hatch, no one would notice if they exit the compact hatchback market entirely. The 2.5 is an acceptable engine and this isn't a big car. Subaru's CVT is pretty decent. It's an acceptable car if you want a competent AWD hatchback without much sport.

Idk if acceptable is enough. You can get an awd mazda3 hatchback for around this price and it's a better car.

Take rate on the sedan vs hatch was really low, something like in the 20% range. It's also the reason why they got rid of manual to a lot of vocal dismay - take rate on those was sub-10%. These cuts is probably how they were able to achieve an even cheaper MSRP versus last year's models.

A CVT in a "rallye sport" modell. Oh come on. ANY other transmission would be better. This is such a deal breaker.

I own a 2016 Subaru Legacy 3.6R Limited and test drove an Impreza RS, the seats in the RS are better in terms of padding, firmness and bottm seat length and comfort, so there’s that.

I drove the RS 2.5 and Sport 2.0 back to back. I could NOT tell any difference in power. Don’t believe the hype of the 2.5. It’s not ground breaking over the 2.0.

For 32k$, this is a complete disappointment, and I think Subaru is really gone downhill since their glory days of the early 2000’s

182hp? The base model Mazda 3, which is $10,000 cheaper, has more hp. Subaru needs to do better.

Try $2,100 cheaper than the RS and but 9 hp more like that’s gonna make a difference.

@@tpolerex7282 I was comparing a base model Mazda 3 (it was $23,000 last year, looks like it went up to $24,000 this year) to the tested price of the car in the video ($33,000). That's a $9,000 difference even after the recent Mazda 3 price increase.

@@anthonykiedis1765 it’s got options, just like you can add to the Mazda 3. Base Impreza RS with the 2.5: $28,975, base Mazda 3 Hatch: (less equipped) $27,305, = $1,670 difference. I think the Mazda 3 is a great hatch, too small and outdated transmission but it’s a sweet car.

I was excited for this car until I saw it was auto only. Boo! Why make a successor to the wonderful 2.5 RS back in the day and then saddle it with a stupid CVT? Just makes zero sense to me.

Seems like you haven’t noticed every single marque abandoning manuals for the past quarter century. The CVT works fine - utterly unnoticeable other than gives what you ask of it, my first and I’ve been driving mostly manuals for 50 years along with high output V8’s and GM 3-speed Autos, still have my manual (of course) ‘02 WRX.

Subaru's CVT is actually pretty ok. If you really get on the gas or use the paddle shifters it'll fake an 8 speed.

@Jonathan-mp7xg Nothing to do with reliability, CVT is just boring and slow from a dead stop. A DCT is what's needed with a big 4 cylinder engine.

this really just goes to show how Subaru has gone from the cool weird boxer engine company to just. Toyota, 2. Way to conservative and boring. The RS would have been great as a baby WRX they just HAD to make it autotragic only
