I just bought one after coming from a loaded 2022 WRX manual and the TR is amazing!!! It’s night and day better to drive than the last model. The chassis being stiffer, brakes, suspension, and the recaro seats are game changers. I don’t know if there is a better Faul sport sedan out there. Insane fun, insane value.

A '55 Cadillac was $7,000, four times the price of an ordinary $1,600 '55 Chevrolet. I don't think you can discount 35 years and 70 years of inflation respectively so casually! A small to moderate amount of inflation is a deliberate policy to ensure people don't hoard money but rather invest in productive enterprises (obviously 7-10% inflation in 2023 is more than they intended though!) -- 1-2% per year soon adds up and now your 2024 Cadillac CT6 is $65,000 USD (China only model as sedans are both not profitable and bad for CAFE MPG in North America). I'm sure in 1990 there were people saying, "I remember when you could pay $7,000 for a Caddy, $27,000 for a 1990 Sedan de Ville is too much money for a car. " 😉 Wage growth stagnating compared to inflation is unfortunate, but that's a different policy topic... 🙁

@@SuzukiKid400 "The STi is a nice car, but it’s not as good as a regular VB chassis WRX." Objectively maybe, but subjectively the STi has more character (NA is my preference, but if it has to be turbo I much prefer the old school surge of boost at 3500rpm, much more fun than modern turbo four cylinder engines that just simulate a bigger six cylinder engine that happens to be doughy on the throttle and sound kinda bad) and is probably more fun to drive. The Aisin 6-speed gearbox in the STi is still much stronger than the Subaru 6-speed too!

@@TheRealCatof Yes it has more character... to drive? I love the EJ engine over the FA (yes, the EJ block is flawed and not strong enough to support lots of power). I had a GC8 WRX with a VF34 GDB Spec C turbo on it -- it was good, the reassuring thrum of inefficiency of the unequal length header is fun! The final VA WRX STi is still basically the same car the original 6-speed GDB WRX STi from 2001-2005 (depending on whether it's 2.5L or 2.0L, international market car or Japanese market car) -- *you got a brand new 20 year old car for your money*, that's what you want! I'm not sure the FA24 turbo is more fun than the old-school EJ engine with the fun turbo lag -- the FA24DIT revs even lower than the FA20DIT (6000rpm! my Aus-spec EJ20G had a 7000rpm redline, and the EJ207 was traditionally a 8000rpm redline), even if the lower boost level means there aren't problems with the factory tune anymore.

Tuner ready? So after you drop 45k on it, the people buying these are expected to drop more money on pointless 'upgrades'? I'll never understand the tuner appeal, its just eeking out more horsepower to make sure the driver's ego is nice and inflated. I'm absolutely biased against them because there's two types of drivers that I see repeatedly pass double-yellows, tailgate, and drive recklessly - 18-25 year olds in ricers/tuners and practically anybody in a big jacked-up truck.

To be fair NA tuning is actually fun. Tweaking inlet velocity stacks in the OE manifold, tweaking primary and secondary runner lengths and diameters in the header (doing science to calculate resonances etc). Endlessly tweaking, whether you have half a V8 (an inline-four, or half a flat-eight in the BRZ) or a whole V8 -- it's *fun*, even if it gets expensive quick finding 5hp there or 10hp here (10 or 20hp respectively if it's a NA V8). Turning up the boost on some turbo car on the other hand? Not quite so interesting... The vitriol really starts once they are actual race engines, and people are slinging mud at other engine shops for not optimising volumetric efficiency and the like ("you can only get 300hp at 9300rpm from this 2.0 inline-four, I can get 310hp at 8200rpm with the same engine, XYZ is a joke builder, they need to tune their intake resonances better" 😂 ...not everyone can afford a Cosworth or Neal Brown Engineering engine that is perfectly optimised with decades of experience!)

Subaru doesn't really want to be in the performance market any more. They'd rather focus on the outdoorsy, light off-road crowd. Still, at least they're still making the WRX even if they did try to make it look like an SUV. Subaru should put the WRX's powertrain in the Crosstrek. This car is absolute fucking garbage. 1. This doesn't compete with the Elantra N when it makes 4 more horsepower but weighs 300lbs more. 2. Calling this car a WRX is an insult to the pedigree of the WRX. This is little more than a Subaru Legacy GT, since they don't actually offer that trim anymore in the Legacy and it's basically the same size. 3. Subaru's cars are largely un-tunable because they break, and that's why they've fallen out of favor with youths. Even though the BRZ is an exception, it gets lapped by it's badge-engineered Toyota twin because Toyota has developed a better reputation as a tuner brand and managed to maintain that reputation despite making transportation appliances for about 15 years earlier this century. 4. "tuner" models used to be the go-fast bits and nothing else and as a result, they used to cost less than mid-level trims because they skipped the luxuries. Not the case here; this is barely less expensive than the top of the line model while giving you stupid shit you don't need like advanced driving assist and a giant touchscreen that weighs and costs entirely too much. They'll throw you off the track for listening to the radio while you drive. If this is what Subaru has turned into, they need to go the way of Mitsubishi and just focus on making SUVs because nobody wants a $43,000 'tuner ready' WRX that gets it's ass handed to it by an EcoBoost Mustang for $12,000 less.

Do some research. The VB WRX is an absolute monster tuned, and is proving very, very reliable. And it absolutely competes with the Elantra N. It can be had for cheaper and is within 4 hp. And in most conditions the WRX will actually beat the Elantra N from a dig. I agree that the TR (which means track ready, not tune ready) is not the way to buy this car. But it turns out that the WRX is selling really, really well for Subaru - so your last statement is, well, wrong.

@@homersapienne2356 I have a kid and a dog and a wife and a job and only one car and tuned my VB with a Cobb and e-tune. It took 20 minutes and now I can hang with Golf Rs. The rear seats are actually roomier than most CUVs and sedans. We've packed this thing with bikes on the roof and camping stuff in every nook and cranny imaginable and gone on 2-3 week trips, zero issue. You literally have no idea what you're talking about lol
