Hardly dirt cheap on top of the fact that you won’t see a dealer selling a 4Runner at MSRP. Don’t mind the outdated design and tech but they need to desperately need to update this powertrain, it’s slow and not economical

Why do most older vehicles last forever? They don’t have: turbos, 8, 9, & 10spd transmissions, cylinder deactivation, stupid annoying stop/start. The 4Runner checks all these longevity boxes.

Dude I bought a 2023 ORP a month ago and could not have said it better. The incoming turbo hybrid 4 with 10 speed trans has me very glad I bought when I did. Even if they make interior updates, it's not worth the gamble buying the new one for its first few years.

Just picked up a 23 SR5 premium for those reasons, plus the fact that it’s a perfect example of perfecting something. The build quality, the tolerances, the fact every potentials in this powertrain has been worked out long ago. In an age of disposable vehicles where the bling of screens and truly useless, additional tech are the shiny object for more buyers, this thing represents the end of an era of outright durability, reliability, and technology taking a back seat to build quality. I think the new Land Cruiser looks cool and I sure it checks all the boxes on paper of better performance but in the end, if I am buying a Prado, I am going to buy this current version which is more than proven, and considerably less money on top of that. You can actually get deals on new 4Runners now. We got our 3,500 below MSRP which might not seem like much but man, getting a deal in any new Toyota in recent years has been impossible.

Great ride and reliable, but 45k+ is not dirt cheap... might be for a vlogger, but you can get cheaper cars with more modern features ( not as reliable) for way less than 45k. Don't get me wrong... I love 4Runners, but they're never cheap.... not even used.

I had a 2010, 1st year of the last redesign. They updated some of the tech, safety features along the way. Traded it in back in 2017 for the last year of the 3.5 V6 Acura RDX, which also used to be a solid vehicle. Although I prefer the 4 runner and looking to get back into one before the inevitable happens.

The roll down tailgate window has always been standard. That's been a 4Runner thing. This video makes it sound like it's an option or something. Every 4Runner has this feature. It's awesome and dogs love it. It's a feature that many domestic wagons and SUVs had in the past, and now, Toyota basically is the only one offering this great feature, 4Runner and certain Tundra models, and first and second gen Sequoia. The roll down rear window is one factor for why I wanted a double cab first gen Tundra.

Good video! I agree with everything! I just bought my first Toyota and it is a 23 SR5 base. I came from a 2011 gmc sierra sle ext cab long bed. I do miss the ride and some options but i knew what i was buying and why. I did not need a hauler anymore. I live in upstate NY so 4x4 and reliability are a must. The 4runner has grown on me after 3 months and is actually fun to drive and a heck of a lot easier to park. I cant wait for it to snow but i am already sad to know that the salted roads are going to prematurely destroy my new truck.

@Mr99Burns

This is first vehicle for me. It’s great in heat cold and traffic. It takes regular and gas is still relatively cheap. It’s a bargain in my opinion and next gen will be more $ so what ever you save in gas you will pay in higher out the door price.

@@jeffgoddard4100 A base model Camry is about $26k in my area, a base model 4Runner is about $42k and a base model Highlander is about 36k. On top of the purchase price savings, both the Camry and Highlander will save an additional $6k in fuel costs over 7 years. The Camry will save an additional $2k over that 7 years. All of the vehicles I’m talking about are non hybrid. There’s a reason why I look at 4Runners as a money pit especially if it’s their daily driver.
@Crusaderhun
@Crusaderhun 8 ай бұрын
Most fuel efficient cars take premium. That about $0.6-1.0 more expensive/gallon. That car would have to get over 32mpg to start saving money on gas. Then you are definitely driving a much smaller vehicle, which might not be ideal for families, less cargo space, lower towing capability and worse off-roading. Oh and reliability will not be close to a 4runner. Let’s not even talk about depreciation.

People need to not get too caught up in the fuel economy - it's really the total cost of ownership that matters for most, and reliability and longevity are a big part of that. I didn't want to sacrifice TCO for a far more complex vehicle that would likely not last as long and have a much higher TCO. No one will ever convince me that these new, small-displacement turbos will last as long as my trusty 1GRE-FE V6.

I make great money… More than quadruple the median household income in America and I couldn’t afford this “dirt cheap” vehicle. It’s not even a nice vehicle too. I drive a 2014 Subaru forester I paid 8k for 5 years ago it has 220k miles currently and runs perfectly. That’s what I call dirt cheap! Anyone making less than 500k can’t afford this vehicle that you call “dirt cheap”. I mean yes anyone making over 40k could finance it like most do, but I guess people are greedy and naive.
